President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

I have to agree with the comparison. In '76 the republican party was in disarray from watergate, a failed war, and agitation from the far Left. JC ran a campaign based on human rights and honesty. His theme was Change and his slogan was "I will never lie to you". The ironic part is that he really meant it and governed accordingly. Unfortunately, politicians must be cold blooded and pragmatic. JC was naive and idealistic. His presidency was a colossal failure and Reagan carried 49 states in '80.

I thought you had me, but I checked Wikpedia. In 1980, Reagan won the popular vote over Carter 50% to 41% and won in the electoral college 489 to 49. Carter obviously carried more than the one state I cited earlier, but I'm not sure how many. But you're right that the 1984 election was much more one-sided.

I say "nearly won reelection" because he led in the polls up until the last month or so. Had it not of been for the Iranian hostage crisis, he might of won. Carter wasn't nearly the failure that Kristol seems to suggest, though I too fear some similarity between the two. Both inexperienced and following a corrupt Republican Administration with a promise of Change. If Obama fails, it could be disastrous, not just for the DNC, but for black politics in general.

Clinton's adminstration made mistakes as well (as it relates to foreign policies). The WTC was attacked the first time and Clinton had a chance to kill Osama bin Laden but did not - just to name a couple.
