Heavens to Murgatroid! I never saw Elinor Donahue so young! Had no idea she was acting in movies at that young age! THANKS for posting this VERY interesting, fascinating & intriguing clip! Margaret O'Brien was such an amazing actress for someone so young! You've made my day & my week! CHEERS, mate! :-)
"I have such hopes for you...you're not going to fail me, are you?" That's supposed to be an uplifting statement, but if you think about it, it's a heavy burden to put on a kid. "Through you, I'll dance again."
@hebneh It's probably not nearly as horrible as we think these days, what with the way we can't bring ourselves to even let our kids feed the dog (their own dog, even) as a daily chore. We've taken away from them all responsibilities, duties, challenges, anything that might "pressure" them, and done it in the name of making their lives easy and sissified. Your hero and role model asks you not to let her down, so you rise to the challenge and push yourself. Could be a very good thing.
@ashleync29 Yes, Margaret did her own dancing in this movie. Her mother was a dancer, and while Margaret was known more for her acting, she learned enough ballet to perform in the film.
Marget is the same age as my parents my dad was born in 1937 and my mom in 38 Marget does have cute feet in socks or bare that's my point of view, and this video show her dancing and looking cute and soo much more. If u like child stars old or new and they have them doing something with showing there feet without shoes well this is the perfect video to start with or a shirley temple is nice to see as well look them up and study them.
I used to have the whole movie on YT, but my account got deleted along with it.:( sorry beggers, but stupid YT deleted my account because I uploaded Monsters vs. Aliens and I was a movie uploader there. Stupid, Stupid YouTube!
Set your VCRs and DVRs! On Aug. 15, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is featuring Margaret O'Brien movies all day as part of their Summer Under the Stars series. They will be airing the following movies: Dr. Gillespie’s Criminal Case, Music for Millions, Tenth Avenue Angel, Her First Romance, Journey for Margaret, Canterville Ghost, Meet Me in St. Louis, Little Women, Secret Garden, Our Vines Have Tender Grapes, Bad Bascomb, Heller in Pink Tights, and Big City.
I first saw it on Margaret's B-Day when TCM usually plays most of her movies on. I looked her up on IMDB because I loved this child so dearly and I was surprised that that day was her B-day!O_O
@mkmih01 No, this is exactly how I remember ballet school. Well, not exactly, but the scenes in the little dressing room... yeah, the kids were just about this lovable. I was once mocked until I cried backstage of The Nutcracker... can't imagine why I gave up ballet.
Love the "Libesfreud" section at 4:46 with Cyd Charisse and Ms O'Brien as dancing butterflies. Amazingly, this film is still 5 years before her guest turn in "Singin' In the Rain," which catapulted her (and those legs) into the outer stratosphere.
It looks like Meg's friend knew that the trap door was opened but she didn't try to do anything to stop the incident. It's like she purposely wanted Meg to cause it.
i just saw this movie today on TCM. wow! those little girls are waaay too young to be on pointe. there was like a 4 year old on pointe and she kept falling. but i loved the movie! it made me cry.
Wow Margaret's got it all... she's adorable, smart, talented and she can kick butt!

shes a great little actress, but they let her dance on point in this movie when clearly she was not trained, she could have REALLY hurt herself,
