saying that your right hand does all the work is pretty misleading. When you get out of the low poundage range the strain of your left elbow and shoulder, and both shoulder blades is imense and you have to put effort in to not hurting yourself.
this is kinda a question to everyone, ive been trying to get back into archery(i took like 9 summer camp courses) but the problem is that i always had the equipmaent provided, im trying to find reasonably priced equipment for myself, mainly just a recurve bow(i suck at compounds)and some arrows.. anyone know a good website?
I'm not going to attack anybody here. What I will say is that as hunters, our worst enemy is not anti hunting groups. Our worst enemy is ourselves, and the bickering between cliques. Hunting with traditional or modern equiptment should be respected without one side calling the other worthless. same for riflemen who shoot single shots, or bolt actions. This is not a new debate, it has been going on for some 800 years now.
Plain recurves, esp. lightweight takedowns, are hard to find b/c most hunters think more about how much meat goes in the freezer rather than what it took to get that meat. If that describes you, that's cool, but when you brag that you got n-number of kills just remember to bow down when i get the same number with a recurve.
I just got my recurve bow yesterday. I love videos like yours, becuase I don't have a formal teacher or a class I love getting tips and lessons from exprienced bowman such as yourself. Thanks buddy.
I shoot a recurve I made myself. My sole purpose was to make a heavy duty bow, and I did just that. I used laminated oak to a thickness of just under an inch about halfway down either limb. How would I get it tested to see how strong it is? All I know is that it's a beast to pull back and I keep breaking store bought strings.
I've been shooting recurves since age 14. I'm 58 now and have never shot a compound before. My older brother insisted I take his compound (Bear Silent Hunter), since he's not using it. My first two shots went into the ground. On my third shot I aimed through the peepsite and pin. From only 30 feet, I missed the target by 4 feet and nearly damaged the house. I'm back to recurves forever!
he snap shoots. he didn't take any time to aim. I shoot a 45# recurve barebow and learned to shoot point of aim. Of course the arrow is going to "go where it wants" because if you don't actually aim it, it goes where it is pointing. I would agree that there is some movement of the arrow where it wants due largely to the arrow hitting the riser as it leaves, but I can still shoot pretty consistent with my bow.
@slevscythe I know it's camo. I was talking about the shape of it. And there's no way this jackass hunts with it, because the arrows apparently "go wherever they want to" when he shoots it.
@tellmeitsnottaken Haha sorry about that. Didnt know what you were talking about exactly. But yeah, "the arrow going where it wants" just shows his intelligence. This guy seems more of like a gun nut than an archer
Don't use the arrow for a compound bow on a recurve bow. I meant don't use a three fletching arrow with a recurve if you want to score better. Should use full recurve bow stabilizer for better result also. For techniques look at the Korean Way as they're the best Archers in the world.
I like it, but I'd rather shoot an all-wood flat-bow at 30" draw length at around 55 lbs. Nothing like good old-fashioned archery, but I have to admit - this stuff isn't bad either :)
"sometimes it goes where it wants to" means the guy doesnt actually know how to shoot a real bow without the trigger release, let offs, cams, and other BS you get on modern crap... learn to shoot a real bow and the arrow will ALWAYS go where YOU want it to
im going to start archery soon and i was wondering, what would be a good starting bow? im not going to buy one right away though, im going to rent one and take a month of lessons to see how i like it and if i want to make the commitment, but if i do make it, wut bow should i get?

What's the point of a compound bow? Why not just shoot a rifle or a crossbow. All the ol' boys my Dad shot with would laugh these sissy's to death, trigger release? What!!!! 30+ second hold to figure out what you'd like to do, arm scabbard.... really? Man up! shoot a 80 lb draw straight or recurve and learn how to hold and release correctly, it's an art that many can't do anymore. It's funny watching some one who's never shot a recurve, they can barely load an arrow with out dropping it.
hey where can i be able to find a good archery store in miami because at the place where i live i always go to outdoor world and all i see there are compound bows.can you be able to recomend any other good archery stores in miami because i am a beginner at archery and i would like to know how to shoot a recurve bow.if you are reading may you be able to contact me as soon as you read this.thank you.
compound bows are Cheaters bows it uses more skill to use a bare recurve bow with no sights no stabilisers. so help keep the recurve alive and thumbs up so every one can see
@Snow101453 true. it is more traditional, and requires more skill. But if one day for some very retarded reason I find myself in a gunfight and all i have is a bow, i'd prefer a compound.
@Snow101453 There's no problem with shooting a compound bow. I admire the skill it takes to shoot traditional longbows and recurves, but all bows are heavily based on technique.Compound or other, they all require extensive skill. Some people work better with Recurves than Compounds, and vice-versa. It's up to you.
Also, don't thumb whore. It doesn't make you any better of a person.
@Snow101453 Not at all m8 i shoot a reflex growler compound sightless i recently shot a recurve and will be purchaseing the bow seen here the only difference between my compound and the recurve is the draw and hold. This guy is the sloppyest archer i have ever seen i want a recurve for the traditional factor albeit tech has changed incredibly my father inlaw shoots a compound from roughly the 1980s its almost as hard a draw as a recurve. I respect your opinion but respect choice in archery.
@Snow101453 I have a passion for recurves and while it is true it takes a lot more skill to shoot them, it takes a lot more strength and length, too. Someone people use compound bows because they don't want to deal with not killing their deer first shot. Small people, weak people and people with handicaps are very thankful for compounds, I'm sure. I just wanted to put that out there.
@Snow101453 yeah i hate compound bows. they look like camo-colored robots with strings. I prefer plain bows myself, the type that uses REAL skill and actually helps perfect aim and strength, not having the bow do most of the work for you. That's why I'm getting a plain recurve bow first chance i get :D
@Snow101453 i actually think shooting my recurve is easier... i take it small game hunting because i see a target, pull up and shoot the target. its all instinctive, and after enough practice it's second nature. i do, however, use my compound most of the time for deer because i get cleaner pass throughs, better blood trails and slightly (10 yds) longer shots. (i know it takes more skill to get close to an animal, but if that buck of a lifetime walked just out of recurve range, i'd kill myself
@ryukyukempoBjjMMA1 you probably should go with a martin jaguar takedown recurve. it has a draw weight of 40, 45 ,50, and 55 pounds. (all are the same bows, just different draw weight
medieval archers would train almost 24/7 from something like the age of 12 until they were adults and went into the army and still shoot 24/7 until they won or died
When I was 12, I shot my first bow. I actually never seen or heard of a bow at that time but the instrument looked ugly and soulless. Now (14 now), I find more life in a recurve.
Using a compound bow is effective, yes. Inasmuch as a monkey can shoot one with a fair degree of accuracy...
BUT
It also, passively, numbs your instinctual shooting ability.... by coming equipped with gadgets that do the job your Arms eyes and brain should be working on themselves(sights stabilizers "let-off") IMO let off is the greatest disservice a compound bow provides...
Using a tab instead of a glove cripples you inasmuch as release requires no technique crippling your "trick shots"
shooting a bow with a baseball glove doesnt sound possible to me :P and it depends how much you shoot it and if its cold out but i would definately get an archery glove they arent expensive. besides you would probly hurt ur fingers if you shot it much at all so just get a glove meant for it.
@shadowhacka93 I believe that for bows, its more about your dominant eye than your dominant hand. Still, this one guy told me he draws with his right hand even though he's left eye dominant. I'm right handed, but I draw with my left cause my dominant eye is left and I can aim better.
@jess1541 tabs are cheep, gloves are more expensive. shoot for an hour a day, 5 days/week for a year and you will probably get gloves or a release. been there, done that
Yeah, Larry, stick with your compound devices.....@Firecat719 -I can shoot pretty well with pretty much any real bow(trad). Granted I shoot better with my own.....
stick and string. pretty simple. just pull back and feel the shot. if you have good form and atleast 10 hours practice a week, you'll get there just fine.
have to put any limb savers or string dampeners on it? try installing cat whiskers and a limb saver on each limb. my bow has alot of shock without them esp the string dampeners. i dont shoot a game master but thought i would share what helped my bows
@traditionalbows123 Yes there is. you need to play around with the brace hight and see if it improves when you reduce or increase it. check also that there is not a clearence issue between arrow and riser. Have a coach show you how to tune the bow then it should quieten down...
I didn't know recurves are still in production. I had a custom made wooden one I was gifted several years ago but after the fiberglass started fissuring I unstrung it. all I can find now are compounds, any advice on where to find a recurve that's 40-45 pounds?
i have that same glove and love it.

shooting a bow with a baseball glove doesnt sound possible to me :P and it depends how much you shoot it and if its cold out but i would definately get an archery glove they arent expensive. besides you would probly hurt ur fingers if you shot it much at all so just get a glove meant for it.

when is shoot a bow i shoot with my right hand but im left handed is that ok or not
shadowhacka93 1 year ago
@shadowhacka93 I believe that for bows, its more about your dominant eye than your dominant hand. Still, this one guy told me he draws with his right hand even though he's left eye dominant. I'm right handed, but I draw with my left cause my dominant eye is left and I can aim better.

Does anyone use gloves much anymore? Because at the range I go to most people there (including me) just use tabs.
jess1541 1 year ago
@jess1541 Here in Germany most people who use gloves shoot traditional longbows or barebows (is that what they are called in English?) like he does.
nessagirl1911 1 year ago
@jess1541 tabs are cheep, gloves are more expensive. shoot for an hour a day, 5 days/week for a year and you will probably get gloves or a release. been there, done that

Yeah, Larry, stick with your compound devices.....@Firecat719 -I can shoot pretty well with pretty much any real bow(trad). Granted I shoot better with my own.....

i just came back from archery lessons in school and wanted to show my mom a compound bow and the bow we use at school(reflexive)
kailashpaul3 1 year ago
recurve doesnt "sometimes goes where it wants to" you just suck at archery and the years of a compound have probably made it so

I noticed the attachment for the arrow is on the left side. Is there any way to switch it? Attach in the right side

stick and string. pretty simple. just pull back and feel the shot. if you have good form and atleast 10 hours practice a week, you'll get there just fine.

i just bought a hoyt gamemaster 2 recurve and its very loud is there any way to quite it down
traditionalbows123 1 year ago
@traditionalbows123
have to put any limb savers or string dampeners on it? try installing cat whiskers and a limb saver on each limb. my bow has alot of shock without them esp the string dampeners. i dont shoot a game master but thought i would share what helped my bows
alucardgrindcore 1 year ago
@traditionalbows123 Yes there is. you need to play around with the brace hight and see if it improves when you reduce or increase it. check also that there is not a clearence issue between arrow and riser. Have a coach show you how to tune the bow then it should quieten down...

traditionalbows123 1 year ago
I didn't know recurves are still in production. I had a custom made wooden one I was gifted several years ago but after the fiberglass started fissuring I unstrung it. all I can find now are compounds, any advice on where to find a recurve that's 40-45 pounds?
