@weavernest Santriani is an awesome guitarist for sure, but Hendrix would have to bow to no one!! 90% of rock guitarists play the way they do BECAUSE of Hendrix. And, if you notice, in the first few bars of the song, Santriani is playing almost note-for-note of the original Hendrix version.
@weavernest Proof positive that free speech exists. No matter how ignorant the comment, the forum for idiots and intellects alike, utube is open to all.
Thank you for capturing this priceless little bit of "histoire", even through the sound quality I can hear that this is my favourite version of Red House beside Jimi's, and there have been some good ones, too.
Wow, I didn't know they did Red House! I also didn't know Jagger got to grab Joe's band, I thought he'd just tapped Satch. This is awesome, wish it were released on disc!
@kluiba fine - of course Jimi wrote the tune, and with Jimi "tune" includes "basic solo structure", but credit to Satch for playing it so great. The blues are harder to play than they look and sound.
Thanks for sharing this... I have been a long time Satch fan and still trying to find vids of things I heard about, but weren't done here in the US...
This is not Jagger in Japan but at the Bottom Line New York City after he'd hired Satriani as his guitar player for PRIMITIVE COOL tour in Japan and Australia - on the actual tour they did Hendrix's FOXY LADY.
i dont know what them blokes below are on about satch aint a shredder in the slightest! and both hendrix and satch are bloody great players so you cant go round saying one is shit cos there both awesome!!!
Jimi Hendrix is the inspiration for this - really the pace and phrasing is not much different to his... however, inspired this aint - and Jimi hendrix this aint - i guess that all goes without saying. What is fascinating for me is how much better Mick is with the Stones (wait a minute - somethings wrong - aint much blues feel goin down round here)
players do cover songs not aiming to be better than the original but to celebrate the timeless classics. In this case, the mighty great guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix is #1 ofcourse and Satch is #2 in my list :)
Fark off, joe is a great player but he this is a cover version, lest we forget covers are shit and orignals are gold 99.99% of the time and just because hes got mick with him it dont change anything, jimi would piss all over joe from the grave and yet dont because he appreciates great music just like these two

Hey buddy i do play guitar.....very good guitar ive opened up for peter frampton!....but everybody has there own opinions and i would much rather listen to jimi cause its way more soothing to the ears!......Satch is amazing but he is in the shredder class witch has not alot of feeling!
That's what I really hate. People that say that all shredder have little or no feel.... Then if you feel that way. Then most if not all jazz and flamenco guitar players would be lumped into to that class, because mosty of those guy have the ability to play freaking fast. Then again classic music would be the same, because it complex and fast. If you heard the Flight Of The Bumble Bee, for the first time you would complain about it being too fast and being too mechanical sounding for music.
When's the last time you listened to a satch album. Joe is not a shredder..... he can shred BUT he is a blues man. Joe puts so much soul into his playing. I can name a hundred songs that Satch has that he doesn't shred. He is a TONE MONSTER!!!
ok dude i know how good Satch is and ive listened to him for a long time....I just dont like it when people say that he did this song better than Jimi thats BULLSHIT!.....but he does do it his way witch is gvery good too...it maby sounded like I dont like Satch but i do he is a master at the guitar its just i listen to more of jimi, stevie, philip sayce stuff. Nothing against Satch at all just dont say he does a jimi song better than he ever did that fucking rude as hell dude!
Mick is great...true. Give me Jimi Hendrix any day...also true...but calling Satriani a poser...HYSTERICAL. Guess posers have 23 albums under their belt, grammy's, be on tour for the majority of the year and have a genuine sincerity about them (hint, Im talking about Joe). Oh, and I forgot, being such a GOOD poser that the GREAT MICK JAGGER asks you to tour with him! Well my friend, give me a poser any day!
Yeah, i guess a jap audience would go nuts too but in a different way. Dunno, maybe some dude with Joe's tour history knowledge would clear this up. Anyway this is a jawdropping one.
Well guys, have you ever heard Jon Butcher's cover of RED HOUSE??? It's equally as good!!
dragonflygurl4u 1 week ago
when your guitar work at 20 years old completely blows Mick Jagger off the stage,
you know you're doing alright
this is my favourite non-Hendrix version of Red House on the guitar
