shouldn't there be a longer trail of emitted heated gas? I've hesrd of and seen pics from FLIRs mounted to F/A18 hornets where a FLIR pi of an aircraft shows a heat trail that extends quite a bit of distance, because the IR bands it picks up are where it's more sensitive to gases, and as a result (and with filters) it's able to see heat trails actually, that don't die out quickly..but this one doesn't pick up anything similar, only the gases for a short while...?
I know, but I meant that the thermal imagers used saw OTHER aircraft that didn't have to be military, and somehow still saw the heat trail of JP-4 or 5...
Now, with afterburners( which i never mentioned up to this point) i'd expect there to be not a longer trail( as in gases still beign able to be seen for a while), only a longer flame, in all regions of the EM spectrum...
That video should be required viewing for all airport personnel. The number of times I've pulled into the gate and people start unloading bags and opening panels while the engines are still running amazes me. I'm surprised people don't get hurt more often.
amazing!!!

These are commercial aircraft only at taxi speed and not F/A18 aircraft with afterburners.
