@wolfs9397 It's practically the same thing, it just depends from the lyrical themes and the elements used in the song. For example, Enlsaved uses lyrics that have to do with Norse Mythology just like the ones that appear in Yggdrasil, Jotunblod, Loke and many of their songs, while Korpiklaani generally endorses lyrics about Viking culture and their way of living, just as it is shown in Beer Beer, Hunting Song, Native Land and other songs. I hope this answer helps you distinguish the difference.

Amon Amarth not viking metal? Why are so many people in agreement with that, because they dont sound like they are drunk in a tavern, or in the middle of a battlefield? They sing about vikings, they act like vikings, they play like vikings, and the their hairy beast of a vocalist runs around in leather pants and drinks from a horn he keeps on his hip.

He is probably trying to avoid the label, I mean it is an extreme sub genre while Death is one of metals faces. But there is no denying Amon Amarth is full blown in the Viking category.

@TheHorrorAnthem The reason so many people agree with that is the fact that "Viking metal" is a specific sub-genre designation which is dictated by musical style rather than lyrical content. Amon Amarth, though awesome and Viking-as-hell in terms of lyrics and image, do not play that style of music. Just like how a power metal band that sings about machines is not an industrial band, a melodic death metal band that sings about Vikings is not a Viking metal band.

I agree with you. I guess they think that just because most of their music has Norse and Viking themes, does not mean that they are a Viking Metal Band. It's kind of odd. They still have one of the best dam viking metal music.

I guess its all just whatever, I mean when I listen to Amon Amarth I hear melodic death metal, and it is about Vikings, so with the mood, theme, look and lyrics I called it Viking Metal. But it is not the same when I listen to TYR, that band is folky influenced viking metal, and Amon Amarth is Death Metal about Vikings. I have come to light on the the differences more so now. Regardless they rock.
