I have to say, watching Unicron destroy the planet was horrifying the first time I saw this movie. It was unexpected, and there's a sense of hopelessness. Then the inside of Unicron...I thought of all the robots being processed. Then the music for the movie title popped up....and I was literally dancing to it pretending to shoot lasers!
Orson Welles as Unicron, Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron, Eric Idle as Wreck Gar, Judd Fucking Nelson as Hot Rod. The voice casting agent was clearly coked out of his mind when he made this list. It was either inspiered or full on lunacy.
heres an idea. WHY DIDNT YOU GUYS USE "THIS" THEME SONG IN THE THEATER MOVIES?!! the themes song is what makes transformers authentic. or at least say the words transformers with t- pain auto tune to give an effect in opening or closing credits!transformers 1 2 and 3 is garbage w/o theme or remaster the toon movie.
this is how the reboot should start, shot by shot with CGI Unicron... you know what? fuck a reboot, we need this movie remastered in 3D (yes its absolutely possible for animation ) and put back in theaters!
Not a transformers fan anymore (stopped keeping track after Transformers Energon, Transformers Cybertron, and especially Transformers 2), but HOLY SHIT this makes me want to see this movie again. I've seen it 34 times (I dare you to count the number of times YOU'VE watched it), but who cares, I've gotta see it again. One of the best movies ever right here.
Me too, man. Especially this scene...I still remember seeing this in the theater when I was six...so much _death_ for a kid's movie. And so many crying kids being escorted out by their parents.
Why does prime tell ironhide to "report to him" at once? Ironhide is sitting right in front of him! Can't he see Ironhide? Does he want Ironhide to SAY something in particular? What is Ironhide supposed to be reporting about? This scene has always confused me
Yay!!! I saw this at the cinema when I was about 7 or 8 and the intro was burned into my brain (loved it). Still think it's awesome. 1986 hmmm..feeling a bit old;)
The level of storytelling and character in this movie is amazing. A true work of art. I've seen it all the way through at least 3 dozen times. I remember watching this for the first time when I was 10, back in 1987 or so, on VHS. HUUUUGE old school Transformers fan - hate the Michael Bay treatment!
... I was talking about Transformers 1986 dude. The new ones suck too, but you really give too much credit to the animated one from the 80's. It was not "amazing" storytelling. It was shit. Transformers have never had a good movie.
@shincyriades to be honest, they're good (except for ROTF) but I think the only things of transformers that are as good as G1, is beast wars, transformers animated and prime. Transformers War for cybertron, and soon, fall of cybertron, everything else, sucks
the level of Animation is staggering... as far as i remember, this is a collaboration of American and Japanese Animators. the level of detail on Unicron, the art direction the sense of scale it all beat the Transformers movie by a MILE. Michael Bay doesnt know ANYTHING about juxtapositioning, he can only make pretty flashes of images with a lot of low key orange lightning. this movie looks really spertacular, the live action movies... with all do respect to ILM, Michael Bay killed it.
They just don't make 'em like they used to. From die-cast badass heavy toys that FELT like you had something amazing in your hands to plastic fall-apart-if-you-breathe-on-them-wrong toys, and now looking at this, man. THIS perfection, this amazing animation, to....pop star Transformers. How the mighty have fallen. At least Peter Cullen is still Optimus Prime. Otherwise, there'd be NO reason to go see them at all.
@fedner31 God, I KNOW! I remember seeing this in the theater and being SO freaking excited, lol. My mom and dad took me like five times, lol, makes me appreciate them so much more for putting up with me, lol! When they offered rewards for good grades back in the 80s, as so many did, I used to just ask for a new Transformer, and every birthday and Christmas was all the toys that had come out, lol, mom and dad followed the checklist! God love them. 2005. Man, time sure does go faster these days!
The original classic... Hopefully the third installment of the live action movies will have more Transformers and less Sam Witwicky. More dialogue and character development for the actual Transformers. Plllleeaaasse Michael Bay. Tired of the life of Sam witwicky.
@GregHadd ROFLMAO! I think the other robot's name was Marvellous... if not, you got to remember, that was a research planet, so his scientific juices got all flowing and stuff before he realized "oh shi.... we is about to get eaten, RUN!"
If, and only if, they do Unicron in the third live-action movie, and make him look like the 1986 movie (a full-size planet able to possibly EAT Earth), using recorded words of Orson Welles to add dialogue, and make the transformation sequence look GOOD (including the planetary bitchslap), I will get down on my knees and kiss Bay's ass. Anything less, and I'll shove an electric cattleprod up his ass for ruining it all (minus Cullen, who's as badass as Chuck Norris)
@Qaosbringer i wouldnt say that he has got some things right (just not enough). I wish Christopher Nolan could've done it seeing what he has done with the batman franchise it could've been interesting to see what he coul've done with transformers.

Of course it's set 4 years ago! Don't you remember this happening!? I do I was right there in the battle...jeez you need to pay attention to current events
i heard a rumor they were gonna make this live action for the third transformers movie...im sorry but you can't mess with a good movie, but hollywood does all the time
when i watched this on vhs, it didnt have the cast list flying around, it had the story plot told by the narrator
