He started out in theatre and, don't quote me on this, but I think I recall somewhere Dan talking about one of the reasons (possibly "big reason") why he wanted to do the play was because Richard was in it. It is so sad that Richard Griffiths role in Equus is so overlooked- he really did a fantastic job! As did everyone. ;)

equus means horse in latin. as in equestrian. there's a movie of the play from a bunch of years ago, and it's pretty freaky. watch the movie. it's more about sex than about horses, but the character gets them confused. he blinds the horses because they see him having sex in the barn with his girlfriend. it really is dark.
