This means that the top fighter can't sit up straight and drop his weight into his punches. So yes, while the top fighter can swing his fist and make contact with his ribs, he'll have no power in those shots.

Watch very closely. 0:29 he clears the neck and is in chill-dog for a bit. The top guy knows there are threats probably trying to escape. Notice as he lets go of the rubber guard (0:37) he is the same time going for the ninja choke. It's amazingly fast and I had to replay that a few times to see if it's legit.

The top guy should have immediately postured up when he let go of the rubber guard so he could reign down punches instead of keeping his head on the chest.

@snakerman2612 Its a common way to set up the ninja choke. Yes you have the option for gogoplata/omoplata but usually your opponent will lean in towards you to try and avoid it.....thus if you have your right forearm sitting under there neck as they move in... its a very effective/easy transition to the ninja choke.

The hand is already deep across the neck because of the invisible collar so it actually is a specific setup from the rubber guard.
