The Good Shepherd is Robert DeNiro's fictionalized account of the birth and early years of the CIA...if you like this kind of movie you can watch it at
P.S.: In response to all negative critics this movie is like the "Da Vinci Code".
It's NOT supposed to be ABSOLUTELY REAL. It is a M-O-V-I-E not a DO-CU-MEN-TA-RY. So please take if for what it is: something that makes you think. Thta's enough for me. I like things that make me think.

This movie wsa great especially the part showing the Negress communist agent committing suicide by jumping off that plane without a parachute. I think given the time frame of the movie that might have been the first death flight suicide, the modus operandi of leftwing martyrdom. They became commonplace during Vietnam Conflict when the VC would jump out of the Huey's. During Operation Condor in Latin America The Leftist would Martyr themselves in similar manner in order to avoid interrogation.
Its hard to admit but buckeye has a point. But the KGB was way more experienced in covert ops when Agency was established, 30 years by 1947. That said, contrary to what the general public may think, they DONT have the right to know EVERYTHING concerning military or intel matters. Libs like MissHollywood are under the fantasy that EVERYTHING govt = bad. Get the fuck outta here u lib. Where are ur protests against private business that record ur personal info in order to profit from u? Hypocrites
this movie is relly how the birth of the CIA began.. pick up a book or go look it up on computer.. The People might not be real but this is exactly how it was. Deniro doesn't make fake shit like these type of movies.
Like I said, some aspects are realistic. Edward Wilson in the movie is stationed in London as part of the OSS during World War II; real life Agency Director Allen Dulles served as the OSS boss in Switzerland. They were also (at least in early years)obsessed with Ivy League types. This is reflected in the movie, albeit a bit dramatized. What some may not think about is the fact that the characters, while certain aspects are loosely based on real figures in the Agency's past, are still fictional.
I wonder if any of u realize that this film is complete fiction. There was no founder of the Agency named Edward Wilson. Some aspects are realistic, but the characters are just made up. Good to see u mindless drones actually take what Hollywood spews out at face value
It looks like a good movie. It's just too bad that most of the actors involved are so outspoken politically that you know ahead of time it's going to be a "CIA = BAD" approach.
Wow. That has nothing to do with it. I mean, if you believe in the fantasy about the CIA that they care and this, well then some serious research needs to be done. They are things the CIA doesn't want anyone to know about, that they never want us to know about, and anything they release like the "Family Jewels" is washed down. Totally edited. The CIA serves the interest of the Shadow Government in our nation, not We The People.
This film is a "gloves-off" examination of the most powerful intelligence agency the world has ever known. Though it has been dramitized for the sake of entertainment, this fact does not detract from the film's historical value. A true masterpiece of cinema, thank you Mr. De Niro!
CIA is the most powerful??..dude I think KGB kicked CIA's ass all or atleast most of the time in cold war. Especially in the beginning years of cold war 50s, 60s; example being of Soviet Union ability to get inside information out of Los Alamos and also the Rosenburgs. Just a thought.
Yes, because people aren't allowed to dislike an actor or actress unless they're jealous, right? Jolie has improved over the years, but she still has a lot of growing to do before I regard her as a fantastic actress.
I plan to see it. I merely commented because I find it immature to chalk someone's dislike for anyone up as simple jealousy. How I feel about her or anyone in this movie is not important.
Have you seen her critically acclaimed/award winning roles such as Girl Interrupted, Gia, George Wallace, Playing By Heart, Hackers, Pushing Tin, The Bone Collector, A Mighty Heart, or Changeling? She's very underrated as an actress because her tabloid overexposure overshadows her film work.

Very nice movie, I really enjoyed.
I've watched it something like 6-7 times.
Pitty has all these flashbacks.

Have you seen her in this movie? I believe it to be an Oscar worthy performance. She was spectacular.

Point well taken. If I may, please pay close attention to the dialogue and character development, because I found it a bit hard to follow.

It wasn't Oscar worthy, but it was a solid performance and one of the highlights of the film for me.
