The up loader just said it right in his commentary,greek goverments took in charge of the airline at late 70s and they finaly bankcrupt it after so many years!!! The same think happened to the greek nation , politics and all goverments since 1974 ruined and finaly bankcrupted the whole nation!!!!

very nice commentary from YULspotter describing this video. It is kind of shocking that one of the most recognized carriers in the world, will not be flying to North America anymore. I certainly will also miss the A340 as i've flown it quite a few times. I don't know but it looked really good in Olympic colours. Probably the nicest aircraft Olympic had, since the 707. I would say my 3 favorite commercial airplanes are the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, the Boeing 707 and the Airbus A340-300.

Olympic is restructuring under new private ownership and part of the changes are to suspend all overseas flying. They may resume these flights again in the future.

you are right man...i am from greece...well...flights will be done to toronto and montreal and usa but with airliners that will collaborate with olympic...and in this case delta airlines will probably do the flights from and to athens...

@YULspotter sorry pal but thats wishfull thinking... it has turned out to be a scam... there was no restructuring just a complete sellout, they bought new planes but kept their new non-greek pilots on a 1 year contract (while the greek olympic pilots were made redundant), and it has been announced that after the initial one year operation they are merging with aegean, the second class company which is a disgrace to be called greek !!!

@YULspotter Olympic went into Bankruptcy! It was on their web site! The new airline named Olympic Air has nothing whatsoever to do with the government run airline. The 4 Airbus A340-300's used on their long haul flight like Canada, owned by the Greek Government still sit on the taxiway in Athens collecting dust ($ 80 million each X 4 aircraft)!!!! Shame on the Greek Government!!! The People are still sleeping!!! KSIPNISTE REEEEE!!!!

By the way, what are they doing with runway 06R/24L? Are they just doing general repairs on it? I know at the beginning of the summer 06L/24R was closed for a while, and now the other runway is closed until November. You seem to be at the airport a lot so just curious as to what you've seen going on. I've only heard that it's closed on the ATIS.

06R/24L is closed for general repairs. Right now, they appear to be working on the threshold area of the runway. Maybe some re-surfacing. 06L/24R was closed most of the summer as they were resurfacing some of the taxiways.

Pretty sad. I saw a crew of theirs in aviation world at the end of the summer. They seemed very nice and were buying all sorts of gifts and knick knacks with Canadian logos on them.

Yes. All of their A340's are now parked. They have no more long haul aircraft in their fleet. They are also getting rid of their 737-400's. A couple of them should pass through YUL this week on their way to the boneyard (desert).

Olympic's A340's are past their prime and may never return to the fleet.

On Montreal Athens route, go AC go and I AC and TS will not fly from Montreal to Athens year round unfortunataly and if you want to go to Athens Greece in winter, you have to change the aircraft.
