Jiu Jitsu ruined my life!!! I dropped out of college, couldn't carry on with my girlfriend cos of all the time I was training, and now work a dead end job because it's the only thing that gives me the time to train everyday. I'm £100 down a month and spend my weekends driving across the country to compete. And I've never been happier!
It's 'JU' Jitsu as in JApan Not 'Jiu; Jitsu as in Reo De Janeiro!! Got it! Pronounce it right ur American not Brazilian! When BJJ went to the good il USA it fucked it up and marketed it like a fucking product.
@properjujitsu You make it seem like USA is one person. A few bad schools doesn't mean you can't find good ones. There are plenty of Brazilians who immigrated to US and teach. Art doesn't belong to one nation alone.
@properjujitsu The Japanese Kanji allows the interpretation like Jujitsu, JuJutsu and JiuJitsu....there´s no correct spelling to Western languages...! That´s the starter...and i know it´s hard to accept the fact that most martial artist spend most of their lives training something USELESS for combat....I belive that BJJ and Judo (because of better Tachiwaza) and/or Traditional jujitsu would be the best combination. I´ve sparred with protection with a JJJ Black belt and i Whooped his ass!
I Played as a straight up brawler...and takedowns..and rolled around in the floor,....Not a chance...! Maybe outside a 1x1 situation....Krav maga would be better...but in crosstrainings BJJ all the way, always as tp belong tp the training! I used to be an BJJ disser......WHoaaa ! What a reality check when stepped in the mat ! Grappling is the Sh*t ! Even for the streets, put a little striking...and you´ll be alright. Better than not knowing ground game at all !
There's nothing worse than hearing the words; 'Brazilian Jiu Jitsu'? When you say to someone ''I train in Ju Jitsu'' BJJ us a flash in the pan because: a) it's a sport no better than wrestling b) is less effective than Judo c) has no street sense or self defense value. People will soon get bored of it's practitioners incessant publicity & boasting. Hopefully when they get their ass kicked after 'going to the ground' they'll realize that the arena with rules is the best place for it!
@properjujitsu it's obvious that you don't practice Jiu Jitsu, because it's a way of life, it can change you in many ways, you should try it at least for a month and believe me it's going to change you forever!
changed my life forever, i used to be an asshole who got drunk and smoked heavily and thought i was hard , jiu jitsu along with god showed me the light
It's great to see you guys getting some recognition. Trey, Andrew, and the rest of the US Grappling team have always been great to me. Looking forward to our next tournament with you guys!
Does anyone know the song that kicks in at 0:47? Ive wanted to know it for years when i saw it on a de la hoya highlight. I find it so peaceful.....if anyone can tell me the song name i would be extremely grateful. Thanks
I've practiced stand up styles (Okinawan Karate, Muay Thai and Wing Chun) since I was 8, and in my teens, was quite opposed to Jiu Jitsu. Now as an adult, I can see not just the defense applications, but also, like all martial arts, how it shapes your mind, body, and soul.
Tho I know a fairly decent amount of holds (kimura is my fav), after watching this, I may take up Jiu Jitsu. I could use a new perspective in the arts, and make up for all those years of ignorance. Good vid and God bless.
great video. I study Japanese jujutsu, but I have changed my life for this art. It really adds so much to life and allows you to change into something bigger than yourself. It envelops you. Keep up the great work. Much love and respect.
