The biggest mistake Lucas ever made was allowing CBS to use his characters and universe. The second biggest was the three prequels. Third biggest is Greebo shooting first. Yes, The SWHS really is that bad.
This special existed for one reason, so kids could sit though this torture just to see the Kenner segment advertising all the new star wars toys. After seeing that Trailtracker commercial, Kenner needed the Star Wars licensing deal BAD.
I can't enjoy any satire of the SW: HS. It's such a wretched abomination that any amount of humour is overshadowed by the sheer horror of watching it.
You know after seeing this rifftrax a few times this scene probably is one of the most survivable. I mean everything with those adoring wookies can't be called bad right? [Sarcasm Alarm] Hush you!
This bar scene was at least an part of the movie you could rest for a little moment. Right before you returned back to the lovely family scene
the star wars christmas special makes the prequels look good. unbearably horrible. the only part worth watching is when carrie fischer, coked out of her mind, sings a song
@nhaberbrook To the Star Wars theme, she ha to be coked out of her mind. They played the music and the director thought, she is not supposed to sing to this...ah fuck it.
Hi guys at Rifftrax, I like what you're doing and all, but what I don't understand is how you can charge $3.99 for this riff on the Star Wars Holiday Special when there is NO DVD to purchase to sync the riff you have created for this awful program. You can wish all you want, but George Lucas is NEVER going to release this special on DVD -- he absolutely hates it and has been quoted as saying that he would destroy every copy with a hammer if he could.
I consider myself an immensely devoted "Star Wars" fan (although not on the level of most fanatics) and I haven't once been able to sit through the abomination that is the "Star Wars Holiday Special" in its entirety. Trust me, a five minute "highlight" reel is MORE than enough!
I believe the first TEN MINUTES or so is just Chewbacca's family growling and barking at each other!
I like to feel sexy....knowing someone is watching me ..wanting me...turns me on!BADLY! This is one RiffTrax I will NOT be buying. This show was so horrible that I could barely stand to watch this small portion of it, and even the riffing didn't help. This is truly the most wretched thing ever inflicted upon an unsuspecting public, beating out even "Plan Nine From Outer Space."
Oh, the riffing is good, but even Mike & Co. can't make the show more watchable! XD Bea Arthur?? What the HELL was Lucas thinking?? On the other hand, it might be worth it to see the commercials from 1978. I bet those are a riot!
ElveeKaye, from what I've read, Lucas had little-to-no say in who was cast or even what the story was about. If his royal highness wanted to gain back some credibility with his fan base (not for this as much as for the prequels) and show that he actually has a sense of humor about himself and his beloved Star Wars franchise he would officially release this and let Mike and the gang do the commentary. Can I get an amen?
The Star Wars Christmas special is so wretched.. even Lucas.. who makes merchandise off of every aspect of starwars.. refuses to release this and acknowledge it ever existed. (Altho I think theres an animated boba fett figure now, based on his appearance in this piece of crap)
I've heard of this in an old children's magazine I subscribed to as a kid. I also heard that it's virtually impossible to find, since it was so terrible.

Not this time, at least. I can't tell you how many times I hear kids say "hey, that's a reference to Family Guy!" when it's actually something that's been around for years.
@Unclephart I remember this one time I was watching the an old Doctor Who intro from theTom Baker era and I suddenly noticed someone commenting that it was a reference to Family Guy. The people who make these kinds of comments don't even realize what the word "reference" means.
