@mattie4lucas i had mine done today. on local anasthetic. its not that bad. little bit sore at the start when they cut the skin but couldnt feel anything when they where proding about. you will be fine.

At the moment I tought is was over, it wasn't. The operation was a year ago, but know I;ve got the same isseus as back than. So that meens a new operation. So even when you had this operation, there is still a risk that the same problems can come back.

But in most time the same infection doesn't come back, but in some cases it does.

for the people who are getting this operation there can be good news and bad news. Some people can do everything in 10 days. But sometimes it can take a lot longer, like I had. After the operation everything got infected again. the stitches where taken out after 4 days and the wound had to heal without it.

After a few weeks there was no progress, only thing I could do was laying on the couch or bed and wait till it was healed. It took several months before I could do the normal hings proberly.

Had my op yesterday and was really scared!! It turned out fine though :) however now it is so painful as expected after the ga has worn off!! Now I'm worried about the amount of people who have said it has come back for them!! Luckily mine is only small and I only have 3 stitches. Sleeping is difficult :(

i had surgery for pilonidal sinus on 23 august 2010, and now when i was about to heal properly another infection came, first doc thought that pilonisal sinus is starting again but after med test we found out that when i was in hospital i aquired som gram bacteria from the hospital when i was admitted and it is the source this time, this bacteria is resistant to most of the antibiotics now i am takin linezolid antibiotic and its much better only in 3 days. anyone want any information contact me

@Xt4848zx That's disgusting as is the current method of treatment,it's barbaric. I've had 2 operations in my life and it's not always a hair folacle, some people like me have the abcess due to viral infection. It really is a vile, horrible thing to happen to you :(

Best thing you can do is, if you can afford to take about a month off work, ask them to leave it open. A health care worker typically packs it for you every day. I've had two surgeries, the first time they stitched me up and left a draining tube. What a complete waste of time, a month later I was right back to where I was prior to the operation. The second time they left it open and although it took a little longer to heal I've had zero issues four years later.

I think you just have to try it and hope for the best, there aren't any other options, apart from living with it and treating the infections with antibiotics!

Ummm.... did he not remove the cyst sac? Then did he cut into the sinus wall? Isn't this going to get infected sebum into the blood?

I'm thoroughly confused as to what was the purpose of this surgery since I didn't see any real help done to the source of the sinus to prevent it from growing again. But perhaps I'm missing something...
