"I can see widows and orphans through my tears" the Trojan war. "on the noose around your neck" Odysseus hung all of the maids that slept with the suiters while he was away. So "the maker's hand" is not your Christian god, but almighty Zeus.

I think it is about someone who is leaving everything and everyone (maybe a relation) behind to do what he has always wanted to do. The part of him that is choking, strangled by his old life is finaly free, because he will change his ways and live his life as it was ment to be, unrestrained.
