  • I think we all appreciate this because Phish is for real and pure feeling and talent. they are covering a masterpiece written by George Harrison and performed by the Beatles with Clapton. That was an amazing combination of feeling and talent as well. it's just a rocker's salute to the predecessors. keep jammin. gotta love this (Beatles/Clapton and Phish forever!)

  • so great!

  • I swear that looks like theamazingatheist

  • Makes my guts feel funny. Nasty, nasty stuff. See ya in Alpharetta.

  • while my guitar was great, happiness was god awful (you cant phishify that song sorry)

  • @Preisellack

    Agreement

  • @Preisellack

funny, i listened to this bc i was listening the happiness when i was walking home from this show... I didnt like the cover at first til I started loving their cover of the chorus

  • not a bad cover..but its not really strong. imo it needs a bit more power..

  • The Beatles were spectacular, so are Phish. It's one great band's tribute to another. Let's bask in the awesomeness. Anastasio, Clapton and Harrison (if he were still with us) would jam together instead of arguing over who was better, right?

  • DR tightwounds ?

  • Great version of Happiness is a Warm Gun! WMGGW is my favorite Harrison song, but 'Happiness' should get some praise here as well. Great cover!

  • Trey sings straight from the soul.

  • @letsgettribal your small brain makes my big brain hurt.

  • this is really good but not as good as the beatles i dont think any band not even phish can capture their magic

  • 90's Phish! I miss these days. Seems like they're only back together now to shut people up. Not in it for the music anymore

  • it looks like Trey is wearing one of Jerry's t-shirts circa 1985. seriously, that thing is like 8 sizes too big for him. I love how dorky they used to look.

  • why do you people think of this performance as so orgasmic? Its good, better than most when doing beatles stuff, but its nothing to jerk off about as you guys are sounding like, seriously, calm down. Stop giving it more credit than what it deserves, their "Happiness is a Warm Gun" kinda sucked, be honest...

  • I was at this show and I can say more then a few heads actually wept during this song. The rest of Set 2 was kind of boring at the show (too many short songs) but 1&3 more then made up for it.

  • So so good. If i could time travel, this show would be my first stop.

  • omg mr. chair it never ends

  • trey is a jedi.

  • It's all good. Thanks for posting

  • the emotion pouring out of Trey and the amazing sounds emanating from his guitar is what is amazing about this performance. it should not be compared or dissected, just appreciated. i have not seen too many performances that blow my mind every time i see them, but this is my favorite example of how amazing Trey and Phish are. i have my mac hooked up to my PA in my livingroom, and i have to turn it up , close my eyes and zone out to Phish.

  • seen clapton and i've seen phish, you cant compare them its two different styles of playing.

  • ....true, but he's trey

  • i love clapton....but he could never carry a solo like this

  • that was a terrible statement man.....clapton is flawless

  • Hell yeah he could he could carry this solo and 10,000,000 more Clapton is the epitome of guitar. Trey is good but he is so different from Clapton that it wouldn't be ethically right to make a comparison like that.

  • clapton recorded the solo on while my guitar gently weeps for george harrison they were friends, and trey played it like clapton for the most part, how can you say he couldn't carry a solo like this, thats amazing to me, Ill say slowhand isnt as flashy as trey, but clapton can carry, lay down and fuck any solo he wanted

  • wow...heavy song

  • is it possible that trey plays this better than Slowhand did

  • it was good... and i llove phish.... but you are completely wrong about him oudoing the original.... and if you look at the george harrison tribute concert eric clapton shreds in that too and it's amazing

  • after watching both of these vids (this and the george harrison tribute) I think Phish's performance is better. not just as regards the guitar playing but the arrangements. Phish plays this song as a 'guitar song' leaving plenty of room for trey to do his thing. claptons versionhas many more layers and structure.

both are amazing and Im not saying this song makes either better, just that trey's playing in this vid(and phish's guitar-centric arrangement)is more suitable to this song for my taste.

  • im sorry look slow hand is amazing but you can see the feeling he is putting into this song dripping off the guitar, he makes the guitar cry and sends shivers up my spine he is putting every thing he can into this song im sure slow hand could do this but he doesnt i mean there both amazing but trey is almost number one on my list next to hendrix and clapton this is just amazing and in my view outdoes the orriginal

  • I like how trey is rocking the 90's Jerry Garcia look here

  • 3:40 to 6 min mark...holycow

  • I just Saw a solo acustic Trey set this last weekend :))))))))

  • Brilliant.

  • you know they slept well after this show haha

  • trey shredding so hard

    nothing but pure soul

  • haha i'm diggin' these beatles covers lately

  • trey is ma boyy!!!

  • can't wait until MMD

happiness is a warm gun is a hard song to pull off, especially after their energy playing while my guitar gently weeps, energy that is spiral piercing gradient razor trey's fingers

  • agreed

  • Nice pants Trey-He definatly had a pair of zubaz back then

  • They always did good covers.
