  • I did that to my Grand Dad's watch when I was 10. I ended up breaking the movement after I successfully opened it.

So unless you know what you're doing, don't open a watch.

  • Love it!!!

  • Smart idea, but the back on my watch is too tight for this to work (at least with my crappy scissors). Fortunately, you can find a case wrench on Amazon for under six bucks.

  • I really apreciate you for posting this vid..I try twizzer, prying it open using knife, twist it using hands, try to open using pliers, smashing with a hammer, and guess what, a pair of scissors from my mom kitchen really do the trick..

  • am i suupose to be bleeding

  • This worked really easy for me. Easiest way to do it. Tx alot for this video.

  • what if the watch back is so tight you cant turn it with scissors?

  • Brilliant. Thanks for the advice.

  • worked just fine ;)

Although I did open my girlfriends watch in the past I forgot how I've done it :P

  • Thanks for sharing, worked instantly on my Relic. I thought I was going to have to buy a special tool.

  • thank you so much it works!!!!!

  • Thanks bro, worked like a dream on one of my watches when i gave it go. I'm not sure wether I'd do it to my Breitling tho heh

  • Who ever say this doesnt work is a damn lie, I JUST opened mine after watching this video and struggling for almost 3hr prior(never thought of scissors ) good video THX

  • It worked on my Bulova- thanks for the idea! Remember: be patient and careful and you shouldn't scratch the back.

  • thanks a lot it's help me a lot

  • worked for me on a D&G watch. i put 2 layers of cellotape on the back so when the scissors slipped it didnt scratch the back, and that was successful :) ....now, i need a dam battery -.-

  • dammit, I just bought the damn tool on ebay. thanks ALOT!!!! Ugh, right after I buy it too...

  • but god damn, i just did it... it worked LOL...

  • Yeah I am going to say if you try this with a Rolex, buy some extra band-aids... lesson learned.

  • Thanks! I used this technique to open my vintage Seiko. Worked great! Make sure you do it slowly and safely. Do not use needle nose pliers to do this. DO NOT USE PLIERS.

  • This is a good way to screw up a watch. Spend the money and buy a caseback opener.

  • Good video....Thank you...tried it and it worked first time without scratching the surface. :)

  • brilliant idea!

  • Great tip, just use it and it worked a treat.

    Cheers.

  • Doesn't work for me. I'm using plastic scissors with metal blades. Do the scissors have to be all metal?

  • @ichris2011

No. As long as you can fit the scissors blades into the slots and maintain them in there while turning it should be fine. Maybe the retainer ring on your watch is super tight. Good luck!

  • Any suggestions on what to do if the retainer ring is really tight??

  • @ichris2011 Thanks so much! Worked like a charm. I used big scissors and pushed firmly into the watch while slowly rotating the watch instead of trying to rotate the scissors..

  • @DreamTree Using your suggestion, worked first time for me. Thanks for the slightly lateral thinking mate!

  • Thanks MyComitee I was trying all day to open f...ing watch back and from 1000 videos only yours was helpful

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I never realised it would be this simple! Now I can finally fix my watch :)

  • thanks alot. it actually worked. I got a wenger from a store that was a little beat up anyway so i said screw it and gave it a shot.

  • Yikes!

Easier and safer: Go to any store with pet supplies. Buy any rubber doggie chew toy that has a rubbery, slightly sticky surface. Hold watch in one hand, chew toy in the other. Compress together, twist. Voila. Most people use an inflatable bouncy ball about 3 inches in diameter. You can buy special ones from switzerland, but you don't have to.

  • Right, so I just spent alot of time trying to get mine open.

It's best to not do it yourself, you'll end up scratching the watch and it might not be water resistant anymore.

If however, you are stubborn, or just very cheap you can do it yourself. Here's what I did and it worked: take a small piece of strong wood. Measure the length between the "holes" in the back of the watch. Now put small nails in the wood, at least 3 preferably all 6 and use the wood with the nails to open the watch.

  • Thank you for this video. I have a diving Citizen watch that has this same back and I opened it with my sciccors like you did in the video and saved $35! Great vid. Thanks again!!!!

  • Worked, thanks.

And people that are afraid of scratching it with this method must have Parkinson's.

  • so awesome that you made this video. I had no idea how to freeking open my watch lol. thanks!

  • worked like a charm thanks

  • thanks

  • thank you so much!!

  • they make a tool for this available on the net... 5.95 shipping included...takes the chance of accidentally scratching the back if it's a very expensive watch.

  • nice

  • thanks buddy. worked good for me and i only lost 1 finger. i ran with the scissors after!

  • omg thanks so much man!

  • i have this same watch and was able to open it by twisting it with my fingers...

  • Worked Perfectly. Thanks man. I would've never thought to use scissors. I've been trying to open my Fossil watch for ages to replace the battery.

  • Thanks for the inspiration. I used the same technique but with bottle nosed pliers instead.

  • Thanks for the inspiration. I used the same technique but with bottle nosed pliers instead.

  • thank you, this video was very helpful.

  • i cant seem to loosen mine :X

  • This is shit. You dont know nothing about watches. Amateur !!!

  • @MrRighteousJudge

This method works regardless of if you're a professional or an amateur. So here's my idea: shut the fuck up.

By the way, your Archimede Pilot watch is too big for your puny wrist. It's a nice watch though. So why don't you go exercise some instead of writing nonsense here?

  • @MrRighteousJudge Bruno suck fuck bruno piece of shit!

  • @MrRighteousJudge Why don't yu just shut the fuck up arsehole. This video is very helpfull. I had a watch which I couldn't open cuz it was stuck and this video gave me an idea. He is just trying to help ya

    thanx for the video!

  • @MrRighteousJudge and you don't know anything about grammar. THat was a double negative...

  • thanks i just used this and it works

  • Happy to help! Hopefully you didn't scratch the watch's back as much as I did during my trial and error. :)

  • "How to" lose a couple of fingers!! but if it works then fine.. :-)
