the vet said my horse should have surgury on his stifle. i'm scared but he dosen't give up so neither will i. beautiful horse! she looks like a fighter to me! strong of spirit. i'm sure she'll pull though so she can see you smile again!
Thank you...she almost died because of a series of complications...
...the fact that, as you see in the video, that she was splinted on the injured side and was offered NO support on the opposing limb was not helping...and that is why it never hurts to second guess the professionals.
Actually, she developed compensatory laminitis from them improperly supporting the uninjured leg...and it's been a year long battle in which she was almost euthanized. Please see my other videos...
im guessing all the stalls there are similar, because that is exactly like the stall my horse was in, except he was in one 3x the size because it was a mare & foal stall =/ it feels like i was just there =(
well from seeing your recent video, it seems like you got very lucky and didn't have to put her down, i hope she gets better fast! good luck w/ her, she's very pretty =)
She was very, very close to being euthanized. I'm happy to say she's turned a corner and will be moving back to NJ soon, and will be reintroduced to work. It's been a scary trip.
I'm so sorry! This was a battle with laminitis...but one thing I've noticed is, and this was my fault in part for not knowing better at the time, they did not initially support the right front when they had the left front splinted...and the right front is the one that developed compensatory laminitis...
oh, okay - well hopefully that will get better =] it's not your fault, who would think about much else when their horse is in a splint? i'd be in such a daze i wouldn't think of anything except dealing with the major, current problem =)
For all who have asked recently...Clue's condition has worsened. Even with the best of care and vets experienced with laminitis, the rotation has now gone on to affect her coffin bone. A surgery I was looking into for her can offer, at best, results that would allow her to stand out in a pasture--not be ridden, not be a broodmare, and likely not even be able to run around on her own.
(contd) It is a very strong possibility that my mom and I will be driving to Massachusetts next week to spend time with her--and that she will be put down. It's hard to believe that it has escalated to this from what was a very minor injury. I don't want to believe it.
As much as this is killing me, from what I've been told, it's what will be fair for her. I would pay for all the surgery in the world, but only if her quality of life would be returned. Standing in a stall for the next 20 years is not fair to her. As much as I can't handle it, that's the only option it seems like I have.
Probably next week--I delayed it one week to hear from one other farrier. Her prognosis is just not good...I can't make her stand outside and be a lawn ornament in possible pain for the rest of her life.
Uggg...I figure I'm looking at about 6-8 months at least, since she had some sinking and rotation of the pedal bone...but how are things going for you and your horse?
She has, thank God...but she has developed laminitis in the right front. It's going to be a long recovery, so I'm looking to have a project while I wait for her. She had some sinking/rotation of the pedal bone in the right hoof, so we're looking at many months to ensure everything will be okay...and we're not out of the woods yet. I have not given up on Clue, don't worry. :) I love her so much.
She is living up at my aunt's farm in Massachusetts...she's been up there since the first week in July. My aunt said her appetite has been great, and she does walk around on that leg and bear weight on it in her stall. They're doing everything they can for her--more than I could have afforded without her help. Thanks so much for being concerned about her. It's been a hard wait so far...
I'm sure it has, it's so awful when they're ill, heart wrenching. I'm glad to hear she's making a recovery, she looks like such a sweet little girl. And it must be nice to know you're aunt can give her somewhere to get better, and you know she's being cared for. Just glad to know she's ok :) x
Have faith, passion, perseverence, and heart and you two will not only b back together in no time, you'll be jumping as if nothing ever happened! Jumpers have heart beyond that of anything .. as long as you both do it you're in there!!!
I can't wait for us to be back to work. The people at the equine hospital have told me how positive and bright-eyed she's been, and I saw the same thing when I was down there visiting her each day.
Hang in there! She's young and resilient and will enjoy her layup in Mass. Matrix was off for over a year and no one thought he would jump again, but he proved everybody wrong.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Clue is moving to the rehab facility, and from there, she'll be picked up to head to Massachusetts on July 2. I hope she comes back from this stronger and healthier than ever. I'm so glad the original vet's prognosis was wrong...thank God.
I'm so sorry to hear this! Do they know how she did this? Or did she just come in lame? I'm sure she'll make a quick recovery, shes a strong girl. You are both in my prayers! Get Well Soon Clue!
Hey, I'm really sorry. I know how you feel. My horse was at the vets for a while, where he had three legs wrapped. The vet told us if we didn't have shipping boots on, there wouldn't have been any hope. Also, once he seemed to be healing well, the barn owner called saying that his cute on his one leg was getting bigger and going around to the front. But now he is doing SO much better, and I hope it will be the same for Clue. She is truly an amazing mare.
Poor Clue! I'm glad that her prognosis is now so hopeful. I'm sure this is terribly upsetting but all will be well soon enough. Give her a treat for me!

Consider getting a second, third, maybe even a fourth opinion, if you have the time/finances available.

That's great news, we had to put my gelding down after a major neck surgery, so I know what it's like. I'm glad she's doing well and made it through!
