We use an interior stove thermometer; as far as the fire itself, that's a whole science in itself with the flue control. Thank you, I am really wowed by all the good comments!

 Haven't been vegan in a while and hot implying it. I do quite a bit a lacto-ovo vegetarian meal prep, and vegan cleansing twice a year. There is a season for everything ....

You've inspire me to get our new wood stove and fireplace completed. I can't think of a more desirable reward for all the work-- a homemade pumpkin pie from scratch!! Of course one must take a short nap afterwards.
