I had to stop at 1:30, lol. My social studies class is reading this book just for fun (we're graduating soon, and my teachers are almost closing in their grades), and so far, I kind of knew what was going on, but got lost along the way. So this was really helpful. However, we're only on Chapter 9 so I didn't want to jump ahead of myself.
Let me explain what you have just done for me.. I have a low grade in my English 2 class. And we are taking an exam that's worth 20% of our grades. 80% of the exam is on To Kill a Mockingbird (a book I'm unable to read do to my A.D.D.) You've saved me from disaster. Thank you so much for existing.
@captainobvious49 In all honesty, I completely agree. There might be a few good reads I pick up here and there, but overall, reading just does not fascinate me. It takes forever to finish, the beginning usually drags, and there's almost always a cliffhanger. And even some books that were critically acclaimed, I find vastly overrated. For example "Romeo and Juilet". I thought it was well-written and appreciate the style, but it was so flat. Did not care for it too much.

I fear for society when people have trouble understanding a novel that is narrated by a nine-year old girl. If you cheated yourself out of reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" by watching this video, then you missed out on the book that spurred the civil rights movement, two years before Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech. Shame on you, eNotes, for making it even easier for kids not to pay attention to a damn thing but the texts on their phones or updating their Facebook status.

@MILEZCOP sometimes kids have summer assignments, and they dont have the teachers to help them. So sometimes when a whole confusing book can be explained with the important details in afew minutes, it helps. @charliegyrl maybe you should go to my school and see what the teachers expect there before saying that i am trying to avoid reading it. i was only given 2 weeks to read Macbeth last year. We are taught to write a web diagram and an intro and conclusion to an essay in 7 minutes. It also had to be "excellent" because that is how my school is its "achieving excellence" so don't tell me that I'm trying to avoid reading the novels when my teachers are tight asses and have high expectations

yes, she helped teach Scout to be comfortable with book print when most of her congregation were illiterate. maybe she did not want to appear better than them. this is shown again by the way she talks with poor grammar when she is around 'her own people'. Scout too has to learn to hold back to appease the teachers. As for "hiding one's education," the character trait of not-being-a-show-off is applicable here.

There's a reason why this book is a classic. You don't HAVE to read it, but you do have the privilege, the right and the ability. Do people not know how to read anymore? Just read the book! This is a great video to watch when you are done reading the novel if you need a reminder of some information that you have read. I heard there was a movie and have been searching for some clips, but there aren't many. Just videos like this one.... Please read a book, you are making my generation look bad!

@MILEZCOP I totally agree with you, allot of people in school these days just don't even put an effort. This video is helpful to me because i have to read the book(on chapter 24 curently) and need a quick reminder of what happend.

@MILEZCOP sometimes kids have summer assignments, and they dont have the teachers to help them. So sometimes when a whole confusing book can be explained with the important details in afew minutes, it helps. And some of the people watching this also read the book, and if you want everyone to be a "real student" then why are you watching this???

@charliegyrl maybe you should go to my school and see what the teachers expect there before saying that i am trying to avoid reading it. i was only given 2 weeks to read Macbeth last year. We are taught to write a web diagram and an intro and conclusion to an essay in 7 minutes. It also had to be "excellent" because that is how my school is its "achieving excellence" so don't tell me that I'm trying to avoid reading the novels when my teachers are tight asses and have high expectations

yes, she helped teach Scout to be comfortable with book print when most of her congregation were illiterate. maybe she did not want to appear better than them. this is shown again by the way she talks with poor grammar when she is around 'her own people'. Scout too has to learn to hold back to appease the teachers. As for "hiding one's education," the character trait of not-being-a-show-off is applicable here.
