@HurryingFever1 Athenians practiced "democracy" in a way. People with money and land were allowed to vote I believe. Spartans were egalitarian. However, to say that they gave us democracy is kind of a stupid thing to say, since our form of democracy really comes from the re-interpretations made during the Renaissance. You could say the Greeks gave us democracy in the same way that hunter-gatherers gave us agriculture, for sure.

@epirotas There was indeed a tradition that the royal family of Macedon (Argead) came from Peloponnese (Temenids). It seems rather odd that Thucydides or the Hellanodikai would have accepted such a theory without enough prooves.
It is also proven that Macedonians spoke doric greek, the dialect of the Peloponnesians (Spartans etc) and that they had a lot of similarities to the Mycaeneans (who had lived mainly in Peloponnese).

The tactics they used in battles were brilliant and the technology that they created helped their cities. @epirotas There was indeed a tradition that the royal family of Macedon (Argead) came from Peloponnese (Temenids). It seems rather odd that Thucydides or the Hellanodikai would have accepted such a theory without enough prooves.
It is also proven that Macedonians spoke doric greek, the dialect of the Peloponnesians (Spartans etc) and that they had a lot of similarities to the Mycaeneans (who had lived mainly in Peloponnese).

Macedonia was a state of ancient Greece, nowadays remains one of Greece’s regions and populated from Greek peoples; the last few years after the break-up of Yugoslavia a new country popped and tries to get a name that connect them with ancient roots.
Anyway, don't mix sugar and salt, the new Macedonia is a Slavic state that has nothing to do with ancient Macedonia, any more than New Guinea in Ocean Pacific related to Guinea in Africa.

The tactics they used in battles were brilliant and the technology that they created helped their cities. In fact, all Balkan nations were called Illyrians throughout history, more times than Albanians. There is a THEORY of Illyrian origin of Albanians but as all theories,it means by definition that it is a statement that is not proven.
