awesome car, only problem is its overpriced for the power it has, amazing sound but still not fast enough, the gti beats the r32 and its about 20k cheaper, which is ridicules, hopefully the r20 in 2010 will be alot quicker.. vw are awsom !!
it's not faster, but it does feel more nimble. I love vws and before I bought mine, the dealership had me driving damn near every car on the lot. In the dry at least, I prefer the gti over the r32. You feel those 300 lbs

Nah I think you're wrong man. The only reason the GTI is close to the R32 to 60 is cos the AWD in the R bogs down and a little wheelspin is actually good off the line hence why the GTI is close. Atter that though, the R32 starts to stretch its legs and the gap widens.

Apparently the Golf R is being detuned from 199kw to 188kw for Australia due to the hot climate. I saw edmund's test an R32 doing 0-100 in 5.3 stock. The golf r must be fuckin quick. Just would have thought that an R32 with those mods may be able to keep up. I hope R32's aren't considered to be shit now.

theres not a bobby in the uk that would nik you on the strength of quick acceleration....provided you are in control of your car...and somewere appropriate..like..entry to dual carriageway..or motorway.

With Launch control, it is on the verge of spinning the tires. When happens when you hold it at 2 thousand, and drop the clutch and floor it? The car bogs down, right? What happens when you hold it at 6 thousand and drop the clutch a floor it? Wheel spin. So what happens when you're burning out is that it needs to regain that traction to accelerate. So launch control is allowing it to get a "perfect launch" Maximum acceleration, no wheel spin. But the R32 is AWD so it really catches to road.
@bearingbreaker92 you're right...there's so much grip in the R32 that in a wet track the tires will still screech. How do I know? Top Gear and I have an R32 as well :) vids on my channel.

The GTI has a 200 HP L4 with front wheel drive while the R32 has 250 HP V6 with AWD.

The reason the tires dont spin is because there is too much traction to spin the tires.
My MkV Jetta spins the tires, and its an auto. I also used to have a GLI DSG that would spin the tires all the way through 1st gear.
