  • 6 people got bad bartenders!

  • wow fantastic loved every second of it.

P.S. at like 8:49 in that solo by leroi does anyone else think of the "only had a brain" part of wizard of oz?

  • almost orgasmic isnt it?

  • @thudec damn headphones. doesnt go any louder....

  • This song is a definite mood lifter for me. Not so much because of the lyrics, but rather because of the emotion/passion with which Dave sings it...most notable as of 4:30 on. Brilliant.

  • 4 people don't understand the relationship between a bartender and his/her patrons.

  • It's amazing that there is only 148,853 views of this gem.....O probably account for 5,000 of the views too.

  • Spinetingling n goosebumps......

  • Hard to imagine anyone hitting the dislike button this one. Come on. I was there and it was amazing.

  • @JORDANSAGESVLOG The only thing that makes me even THINK about hitting the dislike on this, is the fact that it's not in HD. Other than that- this s%*t is pure heaven.

  • His best song,IMO...

  • one of the most amazing songs this man has ever written and performed

  • what is the tune from 8:45 to 8:55 ? sounds familiar

  • @Gregman3989 If I only had a brain - wizard of oz

  • @TheMostLikeThat oh good im not crazy. thats pretty cool how he made it work with the rest of the solo

  • as usual the true magic starts at 4:20

  • Easily my favorite live Dave Matthews Band performance ever. They started the first show after Leroi Moore's death by dedicating this song to him. Very fitting, considering the song's unbelievable emotional content about considering one's mortality and the everlasting impression one might leave if they were to die prematurely. Beautiful stuff.

  • this will always bring me back, to a negative and positive place at the same time

  • by far my fav live dmb song...every time this song kills, if only i was in boulder in july of 2001.....if only....

  • notice how the people in the audience aren't moving at all....stunned by the performance.

  • @megaman8923 , Hear, hear, first time I saw 'bartender' performed live i literally became breathless! Now that be a good song!

  • we'll see the rain fall...the rain ill wash us outa here..... well ours was secret...was a secret...goldest flower.....river yeaaa.....and then we'll leave go around the world yea....pray yea......will love lead blind ..we'll never leave ...were leaving....lover see dont go...................simply amazeing

  • @TheMixer204 Extremely nice job figuring that out...

  • @TheMixer204 Like really, that is pretty awesome right there. I have watching this 3468432079094 times and didn't notice things like that..

  • they witnessed something magical that night..... rip roi

  • its like traveling across the universe and facing god at the same time!!

  • This song, particularly this version of this song, puts me down every time. So unreal. So powerful.

  • I was at this concert, seated at the very back top of the horseshoe. The sound was pristine...unbelievable concert. There was even a slight rain delay, but the double rainbow in the distance behind the stage made up for it.

  • look how happy america was before 9/11

  • Putz...que showzão!!!!!!! Como que queria estar lá...esses caras são muito bons...SONZEIRA TOTAL!!!!!

  • Wow!!!! DMB amazing!!!

  • At around the 5:50 mark you can sense you're part of something miraculous! Just AWESOME....

  • @JordanSageWrites This was my third time seeing him at age 11!!! Been a DMB fan since i could walk first DMB Concert was when i was 6!! :) Just amazing band and will never be forgotten by those who love them!!

  • Dave Matthews Band is by far the best band on this Planet!! And in 2008 we lost an amazing winds player LeRoi Moore!! Your amazing licks and music will live on forever!!! Music is Medicine for the Soul....And this is the Medicine i am overdosing on!!

Long Live LeRoi Moore and Forever play on Dave Matthews Band!

  • I've watched this a 132,035 times, and it never gets old...

  • this is how dmb should be. not the tim reynolds crap

  • from 5:28 to 6:10, simply amazing, goosebumps every time!

  • 2 months to the day.

  • Epic.

  • there are really 3 dislikes on here... wow...

  • This video has 126,520 views and I'd say that I have contributed atleast 100 of these... dont know what it is about this version of this song, but it gives me chills, from 4:12-6:12 is arguably THE best 2 minutes of music possibly ever by Dave... Have seen him live over 30 times and I don't think I've ever seen the same show... They are simply amazing...

  • @ktbuckner10 Because it's pure emotion!

    Can't beat that!

  • @ktbuckner10 It's now got 133,693 and I think I'm responsible for a good half of these. I agree, this version is haunting, even when I'm not playing it on here it keeps playing in my head. Pure brilliance!

  • Best...band...ever... <3 you DMB!

  • @headstock48 It's a Taylor W65.

  • It is christina :)

  • I hope this is what heaven sounds like.

  • Nothing like a bit of DMB tunage anytime!!!

  • hell to the f*cking yes. I can't wait until they go on tour again.

  • am i the only person who thinks this kinda sounds like "dont drink the water"?

  • @itzauztin they came from the same original song, "on bended knee"

  • the little scat dave does at 6:51 is 4 seconds of beauty.

  • ROI!!!! HAnds down the greatest live DMB video on youtube!

  • Its been said before I'm sure, but this is by far the best performance of Bartender I've ever seen.

  • 3 people need to go see a bartender, then come back and listen to this again.....

  • God, that guitar is pretty. Taylor?

  • @headstock48 it looks like it, I couldn't tell but damn that's a nice guitar. you're right

  • I think this band is better live than in studio. That's unusual, right? Half the time these musicians suck when you see them live.

  • @headstock48 bands like DMB and the E-Street Band that perform with Bruce Springstein live for live performances. They all improv off each other and just jam out for 10 min making them infinitely better live than in the studio (not to say they're not good in the studio).

  • @bassitup40k It'z funny that you compare them to Bruce and the E Street Band becauze I alwayz make that comparison too and I've met otherz who do the same, even though they sound nothing alike. The passion of both artiztz juzt comez through so much more live!

  • Folsom?

  • i like his passion

  • I was at this concert...they are the shiznit!

  • dave is the sexiest man alive.

  • We miss you Le Roi.

  • I've listened to this bout 4 times today, and every frikin time, @ 3:50, the hairs from my arms to the back of my neck up to the top of my head stand on end. That is the true effect from an pure artist.

  • im scared to listen to this high. i might splooge on the spot

  • 3 people dont like bars

  • WE LOVE YOU ROI!!!

  • RIP LeRoi. May your nice house in the sky have central heating and be alright :)

  • I'm sittig at my buddy's house listening to this while he showers... I've had myself couple beers and this song just seemed perfect. And even though it's been two years I just want to say... R.I.P. LeRoi. Jeff Coffin is one hell of a musician but he will never replace you.

  • I don't understand how the horn/string section is getting that great, full-sounding octave during the instrumental climax. It looks like Boyd is playing something entirely different from LeRoi. Can anyone explain this to me?

  • This song makes me dance, laugh, cry and wonder at the same time...

  • Bartender, please fill my glass deep for me, with the wine you gave Jesus that set him free after three days down.....I'm on bended knees, I pray, bartender please.......I'm on bended knees.......God please: I ask for nothing and pray for all........I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

    K.I.R. Stephen P. Dungan

  • I can't explain what this song does to me, it defines music for me.

  • You know how you hear of the religious people that feel like God is running through the coarse of their veins, feeling as if God is possessing them with euphoria and pure bliss, to the point where their body shakes uncontrollably?

That's what this song did to me.

  • Send off.

  • This video always brings a tear to my eye. Roi, you are sorely missed...

  • inspiriational.

  • R.I.P. LeRoi.

  • ROI

  • The three people who don't like this song obviously haven't got a decent conception what real music is. This is one of the most powerful songs and performances I have ever seen! Dave Matthews is genius!

  • Oh my....he kills it again...there is no other artist I can listen to over and over. Something new to hear every time. Some different meaning depending on mood, inflection or circumstance. Sometimes it chills me out, others it makes me dance. Great post!!!

  • Every single person on the planet should take time out of their day to give this video a play and learn what music is all about. I get chills every time I watch this, which is often. 2 more shows this year at Citi Field this summer. So stoked.

  • Brilliant!!!!

  • 5:30- 7:10 is my favorite part of any dave matthews song ever... gives me chills.

  • The culmination of Dave

  • Grandi!!!

  • does anyone knows if daves actually singing on any language at the end?, such a great masterpiece

  • @SQ2SonorSQ2 he says something different in most every version... most of the time he just scats, but several times he has said something, most commonly about God, or something religious based.

  • dave live is awesome but def the radio city intro and the whole song was my fav version of bartender by far, the whole song sent chills down my spine

  • @41sticky agreed!

  • Love NOT the world, neither the things of the world, LIEK ROCK N ROLL deomin voodoo beat music! He who loves the world, the love of the Father is NOT in him. REPENT of your idolatry with worldliness an d its music, dress, and perversions.

  • @overboardbriggs What does that mean with this music? why are you posting this here?

  • @overboardbriggs i dont get it whats wrong with the song?

  • I wish they used the vocal intro from radio city with Tim and the full band outro from other live versions. "Bartender" is hands-down my favorite.

  • scp025 and Jalenorigby its called the art of Jamming out. This is the best band on the planet today. Mistake or no its still a great performance and remember its all about the music.

  • @aamott12 Haven't visited this for a while, aamott.....but I'm not one of those subscribers to "jamming". People can get caught up in that all they want, but Dave Matthews Band is big enough now that they know fans expect a certain amount of "excellence" from them......and so, they don't play anymore to just jam out and feel the vibe from each musician. Sure, Dave rambles along and might make up some new lyrics...but musically, the song is pretty much the same night after night.

  • @aamott12 And it's no accident or result of a "jam" that the penny whistle is used to play a couple of classic pieces that you may or may not be familiar with during the closing notes. First (and obviously) are notes from the Wizard of Oz "If I Only Had a Brain"......but then there's also "Everything's Alright" from the musical "Godspell". Is that accident or a result of "jamming"? Nope. Research Dave's compassion and confusion with religion....and it becomes quite clear. This is briliant.

  • God Bless you in Heaven Leroy

  • I love the penny whistle part

  • @dfresh429 imo the best part of the song that cannot be duplicated :(

  • me too!! was it the melody from the wizard of oz?????

  • Magic

  • dave seriously sounds perfect live cant believe it!!!!! shivers

  • Yep...Carter messed up at 1:36. He was getting ready to move on to the chorus....but Dave wasn't. Nice save, though. Nobody would have known had the camera work been different. I believe this was a relatively new song for the band to play live at the time. Love the way the music dies at the end to strains of "If I Only Had a Brain", and also just before that, a rif from the Jesus Christ Superstar tune, "Everything's Alright". Dave's dealing with his beliefs here, as he does so often.

  • @Jalenorigby nope, it wasn't carter that messed up, it was dave. If you listen to the recording, he was supposed to repeat the pre-chorus line much earlier, but he waited too long on accident, causing the rest of the band to think he wanted to move on to the chorus. you could tell that by the way he looked back he was saying "my bad"...lol

  • scp025.....listen to other live performances of this song on youtube. Then say "nope". Carter messed up. Nobody else in the band was moving on.....nor did they on numerous other live performances after this particular verse.

  • This is a good version, everyone needs to check out the version he did with Tim Reynolds, it's amazing!

  • They teased this at the Gorge on Saturday night but jumped into a different song lol it was great.

  • Every time i listen too DMB makes me feel better about myself i love this band too death !

  • Did Carter mess up at 1:36? Dave looks back and smiles at him with a "haha you just screwed up the fill" look.

Either way this is a great performance.

  • Yeah he shoots him a quick smile like come on man lol

  • RIP Leroi!!!!

  • Offgo90 - nothing but love my friend! I get so excited everytime I watch this vid.....I love this soooooo much! I am so moved and I feel love coming from Dave..... Peace and love peoples

  • I was at this show and still get goose bumps when hear it. The whole show was a spiritual moment.

  • wow, awsome, such a good version of this son

  • Every time I watch this and hear Roi on the penny whistle I get teary-eyed. I miss that man so much. The unexplainable way we connect to what this band does on stage is what I value in life more than anything else. DMB4LIFE BTW The best performance of Bartender, hands down!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. Dave Matthews Band saved my life last year. I'ts unbelievable what music can do to a man.

  • I couldn't agree with you more sir.

  • @justse2006 Dont worry, he is playing with Coltrane and Charlie Parker for the Lord right now.

  • @justse2006 does the same to me.. rip roi♥ love you brother.

  • This version is up there with Staples Center and Radio City. So powerful!

  • I miss roi :(

  • My favorite DMB song...

    Still gives me chills.

  • i think the red rocks version is the best one but this one rock! DMB is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not only is this the best version of Bartender, it could be the greatest performance of any song that DMB has ever done. The passion that comes out when Dave sings gives me goosebumps everytime I hear this version at Folsom Field.

  • I totally agree! Also, the version of "dont drink....", from the central park show is also in the top 5 DMB performances. I have yet to see anyone, ever, with so much passion, stevie ray vaughn, jimi hendrix and dave matthews are the most passionate musicians i have ever had the pleasure of listening to!

  • THE BEST VERSION of bartender - HANDS DOWN!

  • Check out the documentary "Before the Music Dies" it has a really high-energy version of this song (Around 50 min. in) Just a clip though. Wish I could find that whole performance...

  • is this a dvd?@!?!?!!"!?!!??!

  • Yes, Live @ Folsom Field

  • Me and my ex-bf have a great history with this song...We saw DMB in Dallas this past august, but they didn't play this song. They still put on a kick-ass show, tho!!!! Me and my ex didn't end well and even though this song reminds me of him and how happy we were..I will never stop hearing it bc DMB is utterly amazing! It gives me that bitter sweet feeling. RIP Leroi..you are sorely missed...

  • are we supposed to care? ; )

  • the look on the girl's face at 3:59 is priceless.

in one second, it clearly says, "he just blew my mind."

  • leroi rocks!!!

  • chills and goosebumps

  • We love you Dave and band!! :)

    Cheers from Portugal!

  • 5:50 ~ 6:05....how does his throat survive after that? O_O Yeah, Dave is AWESOME!!!!!

BTW, anyone could tell me what he's singing on that part of the song?

  • ...there are guys who hit the pedal that hard all the way; Which seems self defeatest.... if they knew how to dither their work more dynamically they'd be able to wow and ahh crowds like this one... Some of us can scream diads and triads like the monks of old. I've got tons of live recordings to prove it. Freaks people out.. sounds like a chorus of creatures backing you up in two other tones... So eseentially you can use your voice to sing full chords... root third fifth, and other tones simul..

  • Comment removed

  • i honestly LOVE his songs, especially this one..and how he is sooo dedicated to his passion of singing/playing the guitar. i look up to the man.

  • the crowds bummy, i was jammin when he was playing, Shit.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this!!!!!

this is my favorite DMB song....just love it!

    =]

  • great song, but seeing the crowd was just hilarious

  • Clearly you don't know shit about good music. Go back to your Good Charlotte records.

  • Dave Matthews Band is good at what it does. The point is that what it does is grating, "too piercing."

    Gettez vous,? Saint-ee?

  • Trax / Floodzone

  • his passion is fuckin insane. i wanna cry. if i could only be passionate like that about half the shit i do id be well off

  • his passion is why people like him so much including you and me... his songs don't just sound good, they have meaning and emotion

  • i love his scatting
