Not to jump into an old argument. But there is no real replacement for displacement. What I mean is that if you do everything you do to a smaller motor to a larger motor it will always make more power. Not to say there aren't things that can help offset displacement, boost is a prime example. But I do agree with you on the fact that a lot of people think that a bigger engine should always win, and the fact is that a properly set up smaller engine can do a lot.
@gotmatt2 You have a very good and logical point, but i the rotary engine in my opinion is replacement for displacement. Weight is also a crucial factor to consider.
If cars continue to get lighter they may find a better following. Also CGI blocks will reduce some of the weight of cast-iron blocks and keep the strength. For their size they are actually pretty heavy, especially if you turbo them and count that weight as well. But if cars get lighter and torque isn't as important they can make good power. Would be interesting to see an Exige powered by an Rx8 engine that's been aggressively ported and maybe even boosted.

Let's put a 600hp Supra up against a 600hp Viper...And then lets see which one can pull out of a 30mph corner faster. That's the reason for the Vipers engine design. It's simple, reliable, and powerful at any RPM.

@RacerDude96 I do inspections for a living and you are so wrong. Yes it is easy to make a car fail with a few simple mods. But if you know what you are doing you can easily make a high horsepower car that passes emissions testing. It's all in your tuning ability. Sure the car may not pass when it's got the tune it uses for drag racing, but with the push of a button you can change that to the every day driving tune and significantly improve emissions.

My business partner has had his longer but he did not rebuild until 289k at that level of performance. You must understand in the 90's the Z was built with no compromises when money was everywhere. That same VG motor still holds the land speed record of 260.87 mph has yet to be broken

Every where I go I do draw attention but I do not need someone to think I am cool. My current set up is over 600whp with plenty to go for what I stated. Learn to work on your car and stop being a fanboy.

Not to jump into an old argument. But there is no real replacement for displacement. What I mean is that if you do everything you do to a smaller motor to a larger motor it will always make more power. Not to say there aren't things that can help offset displacement, boost is a prime example. But I do agree with you on the fact that a lot of people think that a bigger engine should always win, and the fact is that a properly set up smaller engine can do a lot.

If cars continue to get lighter they may find a better following. Also CGI blocks will reduce some of the weight of cast-iron blocks and keep the strength. For their size they are actually pretty heavy, especially if you turbo them and count that weight as well. But if cars get lighter and torque isn't as important they can make good power. Would be interesting to see an Exige powered by an Rx8 engine that's been aggressively ported and maybe even boosted.

Let's put a 600hp Supra up against a 600hp Viper...And then lets see which one can pull out of a 30mph corner faster. That's the reason for the Vipers engine design. It's simple, reliable, and powerful at any RPM.

@RacerDude96 I do inspections for a living and you are so wrong. Yes it is easy to make a car fail with a few simple mods. But if you know what you are doing you can easily make a high horsepower car that passes emissions testing. It's all in your tuning ability. Sure the car may not pass when it's got the tune it uses for drag racing, but with the push of a button you can change that to the every day driving tune and significantly improve emissions.

If you take the 2010 viper at 600hp at a cost of 80k vs a 25k supra even modded with 30k thats is stil 25k cheaper, and I promise a supra with 30k invested will stomp a viper My Z will w/current upgrades will beat a new viper. It has a huge displacement yes, but cos to mod is ridiculous compared to a supra Underground charges 100k to twin turbo a viper

I paid 2400 for my Z and spent 8k to get 650whp including interior/exterior mods, so for 10.5 I would put my car up against a 2010 viper a supra with 10k mods will beat a viper also. so to me equal mods is putting 60k in my car just to meet the sales price of a viper. 5k to double my whp how bout a viper?

My business partner has had his longer but he did not rebuild until 289k at that level of performance. You must understand in the 90's the Z was built with no compromises when money was everywhere. That same VG motor still holds the land speed record of 260.87 mph has yet to be broken

@blairBROKEN A viper dynoes at less than 600whp All you need is a stock Vg put Gt 2860's 740cc injectors 3" exhaust and tune and you will have a min of 540whp that would only cost 3500. Every where I go I do draw attention but I do not need someone to think I am cool. My current set up is over 600whp with plenty to go for what I stated. Learn to work on your car and stop being a fanboy.

@Lemon0Tart oh im talking about TT or single turbo supras, cheapest ive seen so far was a few from cali for 26-30k, with around 60k-90k miles on them, the cheapest N/A i saw was around 23k with 22k miles on it, then again im looking for sub 100k miles on them

@ADD8oi whoa wtf ? where you looking ?? there going for between 12k and 20k depending on auto or 5/6 speed and well under 100K miles,but all the ones i mentioned are TT, I picked my 95 TT 6spd up for under 10K from a old lady, it belonged to her husband but he passed away and she was cleaning the garage out it had 24k miles on it, there's a lot more of them around then people think, there just in garages in small town places waiting to be sold eventually, GL finding yours :) there out there xD

@ADD8oi btw I'm referring to stock, i suggest getting a stock one and building the motor your self from there, other wise they do start at 30-50k+ how ever there already much faster then stock and have some mild/major motor work/turbo etc. at that price, and usually there rebuilt prior to the major build, so what the dash says 80k 100k 120k + miles, are more around between 6-20k miles on a rebuild
