@RocketScientist79 , It was originally designed to run on natural gas from the oilwells it operated (central power system). For demonstration purposes they are runing it on propane.
@railheadok Hi sir. many thanks for the response, What I'm actually after though is the method of ignition. Is it a spark ignition method or a hot spray bulb?
Oh, sorry, I left that out didn't I. It uses spark ignition with a magneto and spark plug. I remember the really old engines using the "hot tube" ignition system. Showing my age now! LOL
Nice display, are you using a pony engine to start Tico. I can hear a engine running before the big one starts. I see a belt pully on the clutch. Hope to get out your way and take a better look. phil
They have a 5 HP starting engine to kick off the Tico. The starter engine has a friction wheel that spins the fly wheel of the Tico. Propane is used to run the Tico. I enjoy hearing the bark of that old engine. Brings back lots of memories of my early oilfield day experiencies.
I have a 15 HP Reid that I would like to put a friction starter on, save my back. Would like to see more of your friction starter. That engine of yours sure sounds good. Phil
The engine doesn't belong to me but to the Murray County Antique Tractor and Implement Association, Murray County, Oklahoma. They have an annual show at their fairgrounds north of Sulphur, Oklahoma. I can get you in contact with them if you want.
I presume this is a semi diesel engine? I.e.a hotbulb machine?? Heat the head up then throw it over with the fuel on to get it going??
