Ummm people hated Wallace Simpson because of her Nazi affiliations and multiple divorces to wealthy men, not because she made Edward abdicate the throne? What type of skewed history is this?
@MrMylord oh im talking about the music being played in the VERY beginning... from 0:05-0:46. There arent any words being spoken its just guitar & piano but I feel like it's part of an actual song! thanks though!
this movie is jaw-dropping romance, unbeatable! i love you madonna. shitriah scarey is only good at flopping and winning razzies in the movie industry
No offence but if everyone had researched the Duke and the Duchess properly then they would see them in a whole different light. They contributed a lot of time and effort to helping the war effort but of course they didn't have a camera following them the whole time so people don't believe they did anything. Unlike the Queen Mother who walked around London in all her finery looking sympathetically at the bombed buildings while followed by photographers so the world can see how wonderful she was!
@bobsbluebox and that is the point of this movie. that is the main view of everyone, and this movie is to show this girl who wants to show her view and story.
so we already know that point of view of w.e, but this movie is to show the other view of it.
This is strange. In Sucker Punch, Abbie cornish's character and Oscar isaac's character were at odds, here they are working together and falling for each other. Hmm. :)
What was the point of making this film if it only has a limited release.. Its in 4 damn theatres in the United States.. Makes no sense! Cant find any info on it if it will have wide release..
I don't like how their relationship is being portrayed as these epic love story. He shirked his responsibility and it was an awful scandal at the time. As an American, I don't think Madonna truly understands the situation...
I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but the story of Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII is anything but an innocent, storybook love affiar. Their relationship nearly tore England's relationship with America to shreds, and they were involved in some very shady political intrigues when they lived in France during WWII. I'm sorry, but she was a gold-digging tramp and he was a horse's ass.
@sixamsedna I am not attacking Madonna's filmmaking prowess. She has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years, so I’m sure she’s entirely capable of making a visually engaging film. My argument is that Wallis and Edward were NOT good people, and that they do not deserve to be portrayed as innocent lovers when in reality their behavior hurt many people in many ways. She could choose far more virtuous subjects for a film than a goldigging tramp and a silver-spooned sap.
@laurenkattuah I'm sure the film probably is interesting in an aesthetic sense, but it's the portrayal of two subversive people as wholesome tragic lovers that I have an issue with.
@ryan33bttm I THINK THE MOVIE YOU'RE REFERRING TO "TORE ENGLAND'S RELATIONSHIP WITH AMERICA TO SHREDS" IS CALLED "FRANKLIN AND WINSTON" OR IS IT "ELEANOR AND WINSTON" DEPENDING ON WHO REALLY RAN THE OVAL OFFICE LEADING UP TO AMERICA DECLARING WAR ON HITLER!!!
@madonna4president You thoroughly misunderstood my comment. I am not suggesting that the movie "W.E." is detrimental to the current England/America relationship; I am saying that Wallis and Edward's relationship had very detrimental ramifications on America's relationship with England when it actually took place in reality.
@ryan33bttm Which is what the movie says, it wasn't perfect love. And the "shady political intrigues" were propoganda, similar to what was spread about Marie Antoinette. It's really not that difficult to uncover.
@ryan33bttm and that is the point of this movie. that is the main view of everyone, and this movie is to show this girl who wants to show her view and story.
so we already know that point of view of w.e, but this movie is to show the other view of it.
@ryan33bttm Comment police? Mistakes happens when you express yourself in a comment so, why point them out? Hm...wait, I guess I'm doing the same thing. Ha! So, never mind. ;)
@ryan33bttm All true, but how do you know for a fact that they didn't love each other? Can you prove it definitively? This movie seems to be more about the love story and not the more morally shady elements of their life together.
@ryan33bttm Lol people will still see it regardless. No one really cares what political implications it had at the time. It's an entertaining fairytale romance based loosely off of historical events, no different from any other "Based on a True Story" movie.
It seems that many women that were not born into royalty that end up there could be considered gold diggers or power hungry. There are hardly any people interested in others for love, mostly what they can offer.
@BaybeeBubblez03 You raise a good point... People can't make an honest living in the USA anymore because of the condition of the economy, so maybe a gold-digging skank like Wallis Simpson is the optimal heroine for the 2012 American woman! She looked like a man in drag, so gay guys could emulate her also!
@ryan33bttm That was not where I was going with that at all...and you know it. So, your sarcastically drenched comment was not necessary. I was merely stating the fact that it's just a movie and people will see it anyways.
@BaybeeBubblez03 Wow, I didn't intend to be sarcastic. I saw an irony in your point and I was simply carrying that forward. I think it would be best if you and I not reply to each other's comments. I'm not here to get into personal arguments with people who misinterpret everything I say.
@ryan33bttm I don't like being called "darling", it's very patronizing. But, yes I agree, we may have miscommunicated. No worries, no arguments started here :)
And, keeping true to all my YouTube comments, I always get the last word ;p
@ryan33bttm Oh, I see what you did there...my whole "last comment" comment has spurred some sort of Challenge Accepted mentality. Well, I assure you, this is one you'll surely lose ;)
@BaybeeBubblez03 I think you need to get a new hobby that doesn't involve trying to incite people to spar with you on YT. You strike me as someone who likes to start an argument for an argument’s sake.
@ryan33bttm The second point was in response to the gold digger comment, I just meant that if analyzed to that extent, many politically powerful women could be seen as such. Not, that she is a role model for the modern woman. You come off as a misogynist for even suggesting that.
This is not a good movie. It is a poor interpretation of the abdication crisis and its issues. The film is interestingly shot in places. However, the score is all wrong and out of place to the point of annoying. This movie feels like a feature length pop video. It lacks depth and leaves you no closer to understanding the characters from the beginning to the end. Worth seeing only to think, “How could you get it so wrong”!!!!
Madonnas Leno visit showed a new dimension to her personality. I found her quite captivating, calm, well put together and above all exuded an aura of confidence and pride in her new film. I applaude her ability to let British douchebag comments roll off like a piece of broken Royal Doulton crockery.
I thought this looked amazing until the modern storyline came into play, it looks like two films mashed into one, and the beauty of the wallis and edward story with the wonderful backdrops, clothes and (what i can tell of) the acting is overshadowed by a repetitive storyline in modern day america
andrea Riseborough is terrific and the film is worth seeing just for that. as many other people have said, the modern story isn't great, nor is Abbie Cornish. still loved the film, if only for the hilarious scene where wallis does her last sexy dance for the dying duke!
I still care for Madonna and her narcissistic butt and apparently many other people too. In case you did not know, the ratings for Nightline and The Graham Norton Show (with Madonna) did extremely well. It seems that you also care; by taking the time and writing a comment. If you did not you would not be on a Madonna youtube page.
By the way, On Feb 3, I’ll be watching W.E. supporting Madonna and her so-called pathetic endeavors.
Lol poor old Madge is desperately trying to be relevant again! Not only does she look like a combination of the crypt keeper and those 'Escape from LA' plastic surgery rejects but her brain must be as fetid & rotten as her soul if she thinks anyone still cares about her narcissistic butt or any of the pathetic drivel she's peddling these days. The reviews/comments on this movie were far more entertaining than the movie itself!
@ilovetati91 You very well could be right, I'm not saying that I'm an expert on the subject. But I've seen a couple of pretty reputable documentaries that suggest otherwise including one coming from the BBC. You can find the article posted to their website by searching "Simpson's 'Nazi past' led to abdication"
THIS YEAR WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST YEARS FOR YOU MADONNA!!
WHAT A WAY TO STARTED!! WINNING A GOLDEN GLOBE, NOW A NOMATION FOR THE OSCAR, NEXT THE PREMIER OF YOU MOVIE, AND TWO DAYS LATER THE SUPER BOWL!! AND FINALLY YOU NEXT ALBUM!!!!!
W.E. was beyond what i expected. I totally did not expect it to be such masterpiece, it really blew me away. Everything about this film impressed me from the costume, the lighting, the cast, but most importantly the the accuracy of the story .As a fan of The British Monarchy i had read a lot about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor but i never bothered to see the Duchess's side of the story and just what she had to go through, what she had to give up.
I'll correct myself - Andrea Riseborough's performance was not the only saving grace in this film - there was one other: Abel Korzeniowski's original score.
I had really been looking forward to seeing this film, despite not being a fan of Madonna's previous work. I've just returned from the cinema and I have to say, I'm still not a fan. Andrea Riseborough's performance is the one saving grace in this film which, would have been better if written as a conventional biopic, without the incongruous and distracting (un)parallel universe-type spin on it. At times I felt like I was switching between two different films. Wait for DVD.
@fisher576 can I ask you how much screen time certain actresses get in this film? The first one is Natalie Dormer who plays Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, and the other is Annabelle Wallis who plays someone called Arabella Green. I don't know which storyline her character is in though, sorry. And also if their performances are noteable? Was the movie really that bad? What did you dislike about it, if you don't mind my asking.
@poppypineapple1991 Natalie Dormer's appearance in the film was very small, almost fleeting, and I have to be honest, I don't even recall how the character of Arabella Green fit into the film. (I checked the billing to see if it would jog the memory - but Annabelle Wallis was way down the list, so hers must have only been a bit part). There were snippets of the film which I enjoyed, but personally, I found the structure and direction disjointed.
I thought the attempt at layering was gratuitous - it just didn't work for me.
I'm normally a fan of Abbie Cornish's work but I have to agree with some of the other posts' use of the word 'catatonic' in this film to describe her performance. Having said that, I think the script didn't do her any favours.
Do people still not understand that the Nazi stories were propaganda? How many famous political figures have met with other leaders over the years, despite their infamous reputations? Besides, Wallis and Edward met with Hitler in the 30s, years before his true intentions were revealed. It's sad how easily people buy into gossip and dismiss a film before they even view it with an open mind.
@MrKeepitunderyourhat First of all, I've never been a fan of Madonna or her music. I just think the film should be seen objectively. Second, there are no conspiracy theories. It's Wallis and Edward's life seen through the eyes of a woman who is obsessed with finding perfect love, which she thinks that they have at first.
@MrKeepitunderyourhat MARCIA from dateline.. ask her that question she declined that they were involved with the nazi.. she s not telling you to believe in nothing.. Eva peron and juan peron.. had many germans that came to their country.. that doesnt mean they were symphathetic of the reich regime.. its just coincidence... or bad story timing
@MADONNANIAC I can't really argue against that, not because it is correct, but because it made no sense, and not just grammatically. I literally have no idea what you were trying to say. The fact that they had strong Nazi sympathies is simply demonstrable.
@MrKeepitunderyourhat what im saying... with my poor english... is that theres is no proof.. that wallis simpson or edward.. were involveld with hitler/// just coz they visited them once doesnt mean they endorse... the idea.. of being a nazi
@MADONNANIAC Oh of course, you're right, all the positive things he said about the Nazi regime and all the positive things they said about him, and his racist views, even while governing the Bahamas, are all pretty meaningless and don't constitute proof at all. (Sarcasm, by the way). And it's not 'universally accepted' that the Wallis and Edward storyline is good, most major reviews have slated the whole film, with the exception of Andrea Riseborough.
I'm not a fan of Madonna. Never was. Don't like her music and herself (I know that's very judgemental but you know what I mean) but despite all that I enjoyed the movie. I was dragged to see it by my friends and I don't regret it. Tipping my hat M. You've done something right.
I'm conflicted! The actual Wallis and Edward storyline looks amazing. The modern storyline, however, looks dreadful and Abbie Cornish's acting isn't doing much for me. Hmmm, what to do, what to do....
@poppypineapple1991 YOU HADNT SEE THE MOVIE FISH HEAD.. HOW COULD YOU JUDGE HER ACT.??. DUH.. GET REAL.. TRAILERS ARE NOTHING YOU COULD HAVE A GUD ONE.. AND THE MOVIE SUCKS.. OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!
@MADONNANIAC I can judge her acting from what I've seen in the trailer and this past day from reviews about WE. Putting aside all comments about the nature of the film, it's almost universally accepted that the Wallis and Edward storyline is good whilst the modern story is not so much. Likewise, the acting. Andrea Riseborough has been praised endlessly whilst Abbie has been either over looked or referred to as catatonic, a view which I agree with from the trailer.
@poppypineapple1991 well maybe her story line is litle anemic.. but.. andrea riseborough... does a good job.. this actress has so much carisma.. she could build up the story plot herself.. im so sad that not even the score.. by abel got nominated to the oscars/? what about best costume design??
@MADONNANIAC Have the oscar nominations been announced? I'm also surprised it hasn't been nominated for sets or costumes, even the worst reviews agree that it's a very stylish film. It's kind of been made out to be like Marie Antoinette: beutiful costumes, a mix of punk and classical music, and over all, all style but little substance. However saying that I did enjoy Marie Antoinette so maybe I'll enjoy this! I think this is one of those films you have to see for yourself to judge it.
@poppypineapple1991 i saw marie antoinette... naw never like that girl... the movie has no substance.. the costumes. are exquisite.. hey maybe you and me could go together for the premiere.. since my friends are reluctant to go see another love caramel chessy.. story... where do you live??
@poppypineapple1991 Marie Antoinette had a lot of psychological substance. It's quite acclaimed now, and my film class featured it last semester for its anachronistics.
@poppypineapple1991 parts of a bootlegged version.. but i dont know if this gonna be the same here.. the final cut.. like 12 minutes.. its hard.. cozz they might change.. the soundtrack its so nostalgic... abel.. the polish.. composer.. is bona fide real.. talented musician.. but the stupid academy. dont want to nominated the men.. i guess because the movie belongs to MADONNA... old grumpy men..
@poppypineapple1991 Tt's not 'universally accepted' that the Wallis and Edward storyline is good, most major reviews have slated the whole film, with the exception of Andrea Riseborough's performance.
i like this film so much!

@waxwing235zcct Hilariously bad or intentionally funny?

Hey CentRleft

Too bad they were both huge Nazi supporters. True story.

@erinreja20 That was propaganda. They also said Wallis was bigendered and Edward, homosexual.

W.E. was beyond what i expected.

I'll correct myself - Andrea Riseborough's performance was not the only saving grace in this film - there was one other: Abel Korzeniowski's original score.
fisher576 1 month ago
I had really been looking forward to seeing this film, despite not being a fan of Madonna's previous work. I've just returned from the cinema and I have to say, I'm still not a fan. Andrea Riseborough's performance is the one saving grace in this film which, would have been better if written as a conventional biopic, without the incongruous and distracting (un)parallel universe-type spin on it. At times I felt like I was switching between two different films. Wait for DVD.
fisher576 1 month ago
@fisher576 can I ask you how much screen time certain actresses get in this film? The first one is Natalie Dormer who plays Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, and the other is Annabelle Wallis who plays someone called Arabella Green. I don't know which storyline her character is in though, sorry. And also if their performances are noteable? Was the movie really that bad? What did you dislike about it, if you don't mind my asking.
poppypineapple1991 1 month ago
@poppypineapple1991 Natalie Dormer's appearance in the film was very small, almost fleeting, and I have to be honest, I don't even recall how the character of Arabella Green fit into the film. (I checked the billing to see if it would jog the memory - but Annabelle Wallis was way down the list, so hers must have only been a bit part). There were snippets of the film which I enjoyed, but personally, I found the structure and direction disjointed.
fisher576 1 month ago
I thought the attempt at layering was gratuitous - it just didn't work for me.
I'm normally a fan of Abbie Cornish's work but I have to agree with some of the other posts' use of the word 'catatonic' in this film to describe her performance. Having said that, I think the script didn't do her any favours.

Do people still not understand that the Nazi stories were propaganda? How many famous political figures have met with other leaders over the years, despite their infamous reputations? Besides, Wallis and Edward met with Hitler in the 30s, years before his true intentions were revealed. It's sad how easily people buy into gossip and dismiss a film before they even view it with an open mind.
ilovetati91 1 month ago
@ilovetati91 It's sad how people buy into baseless conspiracy theories just because Madonna tells them to.
MrKeepitunderyourhat 1 month ago

MADONNANIAC 1 month ago
@MADONNANIAC I can't really argue against that, not because it is correct, but because it made no sense, and not just grammatically. I literally have no idea what you were trying to say. The fact that they had strong Nazi sympathies is simply demonstrable.
MrKeepitunderyourhat 1 month ago
@MrKeepitunderyourhat what im saying... with my poor english... is that theres is no proof.. that wallis simpson or edward.. were involveld with hitler/// just coz they visited them once doesnt mean they endorse... the idea.. of being a nazi
MADONNANIAC 1 month ago
@MADONNANIAC Oh of course, you're right, all the positive things he said about the Nazi regime and all the positive things they said about him, and his racist views, even while governing the Bahamas, are all pretty meaningless and don't constitute proof at all. (Sarcasm, by the way). And it's not 'universally accepted' that the Wallis and Edward storyline is good, most major reviews have slated the whole film, with the exception of Andrea Riseborough.

MADONNANIAC 1 month ago
@MADONNANIAC I can judge her acting from what I've seen in the trailer and this past day from reviews about WE. Putting aside all comments about the nature of the film, it's almost universally accepted that the Wallis and Edward storyline is good whilst the modern story is not so much. Likewise, the acting. Andrea Riseborough has been praised endlessly whilst Abbie has been either over looked or referred to as catatonic, a view which I agree with from the trailer.
poppypineapple1991 1 month ago 6
@poppypineapple1991 well maybe her story line is litle anemic.. but.. andrea riseborough... does a good job.. this actress has so much carisma.. she could build up the story plot herself.. im so sad that not even the score.. by abel got nominated to the oscars/? what about best costume design??
MADONNANIAC 1 month ago
@MADONNANIAC Have the oscar nominations been announced? I'm also surprised it hasn't been nominated for sets or costumes, even the worst reviews agree that it's a very stylish film. It's kind of been made out to be like Marie Antoinette: beutiful costumes, a mix of punk and classical music, and over all, all style but little substance. However saying that I did enjoy Marie Antoinette so maybe I'll enjoy this! I think this is one of those films you have to see for yourself to judge it.
poppypineapple1991 1 month ago
@poppypineapple1991 i saw marie antoinette... naw never like that girl... the movie has no substance.. the costumes. are exquisite.. hey maybe you and me could go together for the premiere.. since my friends are reluctant to go see another love caramel chessy.. story... where do you live??
MADONNANIAC 1 month ago
