it means once there was a couple, but the man had to go to biejing to do something. so the girl start waiting for him, but he did not come back, so she started to sing this song. and she keeped on singing until she got very old. at first the high key meant a beautiful young lady(小旦(年齡較小的角色))，and close to the end you will notice the ladys key suddenly droped lower, this means that the woman is now old(老旦)
