This is still one of the best games ever! How great would this game be now online with millions of other players in their MK IIIs? Just a thought.... Ps3, XBox....

What a wonderful trip down memory lane. Must admit, couldn't help but feel nostalgic viewing this - transported back to the days of summer in the 80s, school holidays, playing this classic.
For me, a 36 year old who has played video games forever, this game is still a standard bearer for me. The retarded kid in me still hopes for a LOYAL remake.
I've played arcade games during the golden age, console games from ATARI & Intellivision to Playstation to X-BOX, computer gaming on Vic-20's to Winsows Vista now over 30 years.
My favorite moment of all was on my old C-64 on the day when I finally made ELITE.
Man, this is a trip down memory lane.....just goes to prove that Big explosions and fancy graphics dont make a game. Anyone know where i can download a copy of Elite? Its been too long.
I used to play this on my 64/128 day and night. Without question this is one of the coolest games ever. God bless you for posting this so this. I was 10 when I played this and it's good to know it still lives on in the hearts of others 25 years later!
@ramtes1971 Google "oolite", it's an open source playalike.. set it to strict mode and it's pretty much Elite. Except with more modern 3d graphics. I'm playing it now.
It was. It was called ELITE Plus and was exactly the same game with filled in graphics instead of vector. Many consider it the best version of ELITE. Programmed by the same guy who wrote Transport Tycoon, etc! Google about it!
I think it was one of the first games I ever played. When I came to see my cousin, we played this on his C64. Later I got hold of the Atari version and played it at home, but I must say that I liked the C64 intro better.
i will never forget, when i take place on the contest in London at (Elite Play-Offs) British Telecon. I met David Braben and Ian Bell, who was working at this time for Firebird
this is some good bathroom music for those morning shits.

I agree, Elite is one of thee greatest computer games ever.
There is a modern online version.
It's called EvE.
Swobbie 2 years ago
Not really. EvE is just about attacking other players and growing your e-peen. Nothing like Elite

This game was AWSOME - still to this day I grade games as "is it Elite good?"
Not found one that matches the magic

Rise of the Triad back in the mid-90s gets that accolade for me but I agree, Elite was amazing.

Google 'Commodore 64 Emulator' and download, then Google 'Elite D64' D64 if the file extension for C64 floppy DISKS that emulators read.

@ramtes1971 Oolite is a modern open-source version of Elite. Compatible with a lot of operating systems.

I used to spend hours on this game. Any chance of the 'docking' music? (think it was the Blue Danube).

The Blue Danube music is the intro of the Atari version, you can find it here on youtube!
