  • Best game ever!

  • los heinz rudolf plünder das wrack nochmal

  • Backface culled polygons, buckwheat!

  • just the spinning spaceship took a few months to program

  • This is still one of the best games ever! How great would this game be now online with millions of other players in their MK IIIs? Just a thought.... Ps3, XBox....

  • I agree, Elite is one of thee greatest computer games ever.

There is a modern online version.

    It's called EvE.

  • Not really. EvE is just about attacking other players and growing your e-peen. Nothing like Elite

  • This was definately one of the best ever computer games.

  • there is NOTHIN like OLD times, don't you think?

we have all novatoys and NO soul anymore.

  • WHATEVER. Have you ever seen Modern Warfare?

  • @BarbarianDragon , have you seen Dwarf Fortress?

    :)

  • Have you seen Mariokart?

  • :D lol, not exactly :)

  • if any game has an accessibility problem, it's Dwarf Fortress. :)

  • @almo2001 heheh, but it's still better than MW :D

  • @xoen6 No disagreement here. :)

  • schöne alte zeit sogar hrk sang zu dem spiel nur ufo rammt kanzleramt contact von carl sagan kommt auch gut dazu oder die satire per anhalter durch die galaxis^^

  • What a wonderful trip down memory lane. Must admit, couldn't help but feel nostalgic viewing this - transported back to the days of summer in the 80s, school holidays, playing this classic.

  • wonderfull .... back to the roots ... :)

  • Thanks for putting this up. At 39 you took me back to the 80's when I was a teen. 8)

  • For me, a 36 year old who has played video games forever, this game is still a standard bearer for me. The retarded kid in me still hopes for a LOYAL remake.

  • Have you checked out Oolite? Really is worth a look...

  • Those guys that developed this game were amazing for the time...And just to think that emi turned them down...

  • This game was AWSOME - still to this day I grade games as "is it Elite good?"

Not found one that matches the magic

  • Rise of the Triad back in the mid-90s gets that accolade for me but I agree, Elite was amazing.

  • I've played arcade games during the golden age, console games from ATARI & Intellivision to Playstation to X-BOX, computer gaming on Vic-20's to Winsows Vista now over 30 years.

My favorite moment of all was on my old C-64 on the day when I finally made ELITE.

No one has made a game since to match it.

  • Imagine if we could have all played this online across our 300 baud modems. 8-P

  • god damn i loved this game when i was 10 the c64/128 was the shit back then in computers

  • Made this my cell phone ringtone!

  • Man, this is a trip down memory lane.....just goes to prove that Big explosions and fancy graphics dont make a game. Anyone know where i can download a copy of Elite? Its been too long.

  • Google 'Commodore 64 Emulator' and download, then Google 'Elite D64' D64 if the file extension for C64 floppy DISKS that emulators read.

  • Man This Is the best game ever You had to save money just to buy auto docking for your ship remember LOL

  • I used to play this on my 64/128 day and night. Without question this is one of the coolest games ever. God bless you for posting this so this. I was 10 when I played this and it's good to know it still lives on in the hearts of others 25 years later!

  • @mikesmithsupersaiyan how can I play this one today.

What is the most similar stuff?

  • @ramtes1971 Oolite is a modern open-source version of Elite. Compatible with a lot of operating systems.

  • @ramtes1971 Google "oolite", it's an open source playalike.. set it to strict mode and it's pretty much Elite. Except with more modern 3d graphics.

  • @ramtes1971 Google "oolite", it's an open source playalike.. set it to strict mode and it's pretty much Elite. Except with more modern 3d graphics. I'm playing it now.

  • best game ever!

  • If only Elite had be adapted for PC and PlayStation...

  • It was. It was called ELITE Plus and was exactly the same game with filled in graphics instead of vector. Many consider it the best version of ELITE. Programmed by the same guy who wrote Transport Tycoon, etc! Google about it!

  • probably the best ever computer game ever,, beats the shit out of mario poofs n halo

  • I used to play this on the C64. No one is 1337 unless they've played this...

  • This was Grand Theft Auto in space. You could sell dope and slave and if anyone got in your way they were space dust.

  • lol

  • The ascending C Major run and following G,F,Em and G7 arppegios starting @54 secs is one of the finest moments in SID history.

Thank you David Dunn and Aiden Bell.

  • anyone, if bought c64 just because of this game, plz raise a thumb

  • the best computer game EVER.

  • I concur.

  • I think it was one of the first games I ever played. When I came to see my cousin, we played this on his C64. Later I got hold of the Atari version and played it at home, but I must say that I liked the C64 intro better.

  • i will never forget, when i take place on the contest in London at (Elite Play-Offs) British Telecon. I met David Braben and Ian Bell, who was working at this time for Firebird

I was comming from Germany, and was 17years old

I still love the music and the game

  • Yes definately this is the game i have played most ever.

  • did u ever get to elite status?i got to deadly and gave up,must have been to every planet!

  • Favorite game ever. Spent hours on it. I miss the Commodore

  • I used to spend hours on this game. Any chance of the 'docking' music? (think it was the Blue Danube).

  • The Blue Danube music is the intro of the Atari version, you can find it here on youtube!
