  • Rovio sucks.1. The north star sucks.2.wowee should make the connection between the broadband to rovio so they connect together u dumb retards.3.ok sure spykee and rovio both have trouble getting to base but at least spykee can although with rovio cant even get there with out sticking his stupid camera aerial up.4.svengalie is right.who wants to look at the ground or the seling and if u have the option to move the head why not let us choose. And 5 i think wowee is even to retarded to give a good

  • bullshit! i think rovio is a lot better on my perspective that is!

  • Sven - do you still maintain that this is normal performance? Plenty of online vids appear to show more normal - less laggy operation. Improved by firmware updates perhaps?

  • Oh hes just showing off. Oh he wants to live there! LoL

  • Why your doing some things wrong.

1.You need to have a 20 megapps or more internet speed so rovio can work without lag.

2.That table you have located blocks rovio's navigation signal,so he doesn't recognize where the charging dock is,and also can't record a path.

Rovio test drive works great so why your doesn't?Because your internet connection is shit.Your having no problem controlling spykee cz he's made to be able to drivven remotely even with a bad internet connection.Rovio does not

  • i have rovio and i hate it it never charges correctly. but for some reason there is like no wait for me to connect to my rovio it just looses battery way too quickly.

  • To be fair, skypee piggybacks over a skype connection to communicate instructions to the skypee using chat characters, that are interpreted by the skypee, then the skypee communicated video back to you through skype's webcam support. So yeah it's fast because they use skype, and skype has invested the resources to maintain minimal lag for chatting and webcam over the internet. Where as Rovio functions on software, and a protocol all it's own. So it'll lack some polish.

  • @SteamyThePunk no it doesn't. It CAN use skype but that's a third party hack. You see the standard skypee software in this vid (or it might be the other one i did).

  • @svengalie Umm actually is uses skype's protocol regardless. It might be a different GUI but the program uses the same protocols to talk to skypee as skype uses to communicate between instances. Trust me, I'm a developer too. They wouldn't implement two different networking systems to control the thing.

  • @SteamyThePunk [citation needed]

  • @svengalie Wow really? You want me to give you a citation that affirms the people behind skypee weren't retarded enough to use two different protocols where one would do? Seriously? You want me to give you proof that they didn't make more work for themselves with no conceivable reward? Well I don't have one, I just gave them the benefit of the doubt and I would expect you to do the same, as you obviously don't know any better.

  • @SteamyThePunk err sorry spykee for all the times I said it skypee...

  • @SteamyThePunk oh sure, one company giving away their entire source code to another company (you know, the company that just sold for billions). Makes perfect sense.

With respect, by your own admission you're talking out of the wrong hole :)

  • @SteamyThePunk Ummm actually I can find no evidence of this, they're too entirely separate companies? *shrug*

  • now put the resolution on MAX THE QUALITY ON MAX AND THE FPS ON MAX!!!

  • It didnt even say that u can use google chrome. Mine works just fine. Also most ppl use chrome is when Internet explorer starts to suck.

  • OKay, so I have contacted the people who made this thing and they have not gottten back 2 me. 4 some reason, I have never gottone my spykee to work because IT DOENST EVEN TURN ON!!!!!! I have charged it, wited 4 it, everything! Please help.

  • A fable: many years ago some very bright people created a leading edge home computer called the IBM PC jr. It was designed to preform like a marvel and was to be sold to home users who would pay their own money to buy it and not pay for it with the company budget . However when the commercial sales force learned what the home computer would be able to do they knew the junk boxes that they were selling would look like junk boxes . So they did a lobotomy on the PC jr to kill the competition .

  • is this the guy who presents grand designs ? :S

  • I've experienced the same issues with my Rovio as well...

    Rovio wont dock.

    Rovio sometimes doesn't charge.

Rovio is WORTHLESS over the internet.

Rovio camera is useless unless it is VERY bright.

  • ha i have rovio and it works great but that is shit.

  • 55 to 1.30 funniest vois ever!!!!

  • My Rovio wouldn't charge up, ever, despite getting 2 of them. I got a refund.

  • UNDRIVABLE IS THAT IT DOESNT DRIVE AT ALL and you need a better resolutin

  • HOW COME YOU DONT HAVE A BUTLER INSTEAD, I THOUGHT YOU WERE RICH!

  • Comment removed

  • Use a better Internet connection because lags happen coz of the connection

Have a really good connection and have no lag or have a really weak or bad connection and have loads of lag

  • @SkiMaster999 and spykee worked on high quality because i have a poor connection right?

My connection is fine. I tested bandwidth against rovio requirements.

  • WOW! There sure are a bunch of bitter, crybaby, asswipe, haters in this comment section! You do not have to be rich to get a Rovio. I found one for under $100.00. That is less than some of you shit heads spend on two video games and sit in front of them for 6 hours at a time. To each his own. Some people like electronic gizmos while others enjoy stamp collecting. If you don't like it, WHY waste your time making retarded comments, unless being retarded IS your passtime?

  • I don't know why you have such a long lag. My Rovio only lags about one second or so on average. I see you are using the old firmaware. Mine ALWAYS finds its dock.

  • thats why money cant buy you a brain and you end up spending it on this shit. and what rovio does for you if someone rub your house? probably they put their foot on him! lol

  • Comment removed

  • oooooo the rich useless thing buying guy told you... for the Vid maker, which one do you recommend more? I heard theres also a Spykee Micro, I was thinking about getting that first just to try it out, you know in the ladies changing room awwwwwright!! lol but seriously which one do you recommend?

  • the problem may be your wifi speed, either to the rovio or from your computer

  • rich bastard

  • @docnot1986 jealous bastard

  • @svengalie waste more money in useless things you fag

  • @docnot1986 And whilst I do you may continue viewing with bitterness.

  • @svengalie lol

  • @docnot1986

    Make more useless comments.

  • my spykee dont lag at all! wanna drive my spykee?

  • @Awezomenes can i drive your spykee please?

  • @Bigdave1615 yea... e-mail me at salelias@online(dot)no

  • @Awezomenes,yeah

  • If you dont have any know-how for this products then dont buy it!

I recommend that you keep playing with only your robosapien.

  • Do as I said, then tell me if the rovio is better than spykee

  • Try upgrading your router to a multitasking high speed one. Try changing the wireless channel of the router to as high as it gets, and change a setting on the rovio in it's web interface: point performance towards more frames rather than better quallity. Quallity is unessesary eye candy that slows down performance.

  • Mate, i'm envious, I can't even get mine to do the initial set-up. What a heap of junk! I can't believe I fell for it. I wish I'd seen your video first! Cheers

  • i didnt follow the path because the north star was pointed nearly directly above the dock. it is meant to be in the middle of the room.

  • lol when your voice gets faster and higher pitch. it sounds like your on fat princess

  • What a shame, it looks a great product. Have you contacted the makers of Rovio for their opinion, or do they have the same time lag with customer relations communications too?

  • why didnt you try to 'go to blah' while it was in the dock? maybe it has to start out in the dock.

  • @devan12100 because the instructions say it can do it from anywhere. that's the idea behind the northstar "gps" system. The robot always knows where it is.

  • I thought it'd been cooler if you kicked Rovio at the end. Like kicked him at his docking station thing

  • Just got my Rovio and have to say I'm not experiencing any of this lag. Tested on my iphone (iRovio app) over 3G and there is a slight .5 second lag, but very good overall considering I was using 3G. You really need to work out your specific problem and reconsider this video. I almost didn't buy mine after seeing this. The idea here is to help others not mislead them.

  • OMG,a neard Top Gear dude, and like all UK People that killed the USA with oil, cant fix there internet connection or anything else. Nuke the Queen.

  • @DBSpy1 how was it the UK people that killed Usa with oil? The usa owns half of BP in shares. BP isnt alowed to be called British Petroleum anymore so it has to be called BP and thats it!. Its BP's fault not the UK. The UK people dont run BP

  • u saved me thanks, i was just about to pay for a rovio

  • @reply4reply rovio is good its just he might not ahve the latest firmare software and a pretty laggy connection.

  • lol its no NASA tech!

  • hi , does the problem it's already here with news firmwar?

  • I'm curious, have you tried again with the latest firmware/software? I'm considering buying it for myself as a development platform. I'll also check out Spykee. Do you happen to know if they expose an SDK for it?

    Cheers,

    Dan.

  • Hi, maybe you are right! My Rovio has the latest Firmware. That can be de difference.

If you need, I can send you my Rovio Internet IP-Adress to test it your self.

  • @moieric2002 can i test it?If you wish plz send me a message. Thanks,i want to see if there is any lag

  • it seems ur internet connection is lagging !

  • @vidvivek2009 how can it be when spykee works fine?

  • Your PC-Wifi connection is shit, my Rovio has no delay.

I recommend you to update Rovios Firmware, and re configure your Wifi correctly, as schown on the user manual....

  • @moieric2002 There's nothing wrong with my wifi connection, you just saw me operate spykee fine.

  • Just as youve worked long anad hard like you recording of your computer screen ,BARBARIAN.

  • try not to have rovio and spykee connected at the same time

  • Try to reposition your access point...

Some wireless clients don´t have good radios. iPad is a an example.

So, try to reposition your access point or install one more in WDS mode to replicate the signal.

  • the north star thing isnt on

  • you have such a bad connection dude, ok spykee is quicker, but on my rovio, i connect in 4 secs and can drive around with ease

  • @99chris1 Or a duff robot.

I used sypkee and rovio on the same connection. I work in IT, I have the fastest connection available, it's not the connection trust me.

  • and also theres only one shop you can buy those room beacons its the robotshop over the friggin internet

  • Rovio's camera moter is more annoying then spykees tyre motors

  • the rovio Room beacons cost $29 dollars in america

spykee should get props for not needing those room beacons

    to get on its charger

  • Sven,

Flouresent lighting by any chance at your house?

Infared signals can be jammed quite easy. (That might explain the docking problem.)

    Jim

  • I am very sry about your rovio although my Rovio does not have a lag at all even at best quality video but I do not have the microphone or speaker working it will not dock on it's own so I put it in the kitchen paralell from the dishwasher so I can dock it my self I think the light is to blame for the bad camera and it is the light on Rovio that I blame.FireFox will not let me recive a good picture for some reason it cuts out even at worst quality u r rite WowWee should have made Rovio better.

  • It's very strange, in your other video "ROBOTWARS" the Rovio seems to behave fine, with no lag.

  • Indeed im sat in front of it watching it like a remote control car.

  • O, that solves the mystery.

  • your rovio is fuck up

  • i have a rovio and i had it for a few months and its awsome almost no lag my friend has a spykee and its ok but it lags more than the spykee i guess its just the internet

  • This is why people buy Macs; they are idiots.

It's the network / internet you moron, not the computer.

  • @maxxturwick

hey, i'm wondering where i can get a rovio in the uk? i have found some sites but i don't know if they are selling the old ones in this vid or the improved one that you are talking about ? [the site i have found is red5] i was wondering if you have a rovio and if yes where you got it from??

    thx

  • Lol its flipping him off

  • Cool vid and to make a route u should start at home and then end at home

  • hey do u thinki can test drive your spykee? IM planning on mabe buying one and i just want to see how they perform

  • When it looks up and then straight back down when you pressed him, it means that i cant see the infrared beams attached to the home base.

  • Dude really, u have very bad internet connection and/or u have very bad computer, cause i have one of those and that page where i controll it, loads on a couple seconds! If broblem is the computer, get a mac, it really works...

  • @Ek5656 you are a fanboy fool, macs are just over priced pc hardware with a modded version of bsd. Macs are great for people that dont want or cant have complete control of their hardware and software, macs always have bee a proprietary joke.

  • Thanks for the Video. I was in the process of purchasing a Rovio.... NOT NOW...I think I'll look for something better, maybe a Skykee....what would you recommend?

  • I think a lot of the problems are resolved now....but just get it from somewhere you can return it to.l

  • The spyball from wowwee looks better than the rovio & spykee. Its smallest and isnt expensive

  • You've got a very bad connection dude...

  • @knurllien then why is the spykee perfectly fine. (Same networks both ends)

There's nothing wrong with the connetion.

  • Thanks for the great videos, and opinions, I've put these on my wish list, but I wanted to say that after your reviews, I would create a hybrid of the two, I'm an evil genius that way, but what I was wondering if you can address multiple servos, or just the stock config.

  • mine works perfectly over internet with a dyndns account...

  • and also rovio has something called "true track" . do you have to stay in that room with the true track thing to stay connected? can you drive in other rooms?

  • okay, me and my friend want to get a rovio for christmas. is there a way we could connected to each others? will it lag like the on in this video? would a spykee be better for something like this? please anwser fast (:

  • @TheYahtzeeClub you should buy spykee.Your gonna have a bunch of problems with rovio...ex.if you have carpets in your house rovio will not be able to dock succesfully.Sorry for the lateness of my reply,i just checked it

  • how many ppl have those problems?

it realy makes me think twice about buying 1

  • Rovio firmware is now 5.0 does that do any good?

  • I can program a roam with skype with SCAR Divi. Even make autonomous tasks.

  • has it not improved since you got it? or would a new one be just as bad as yours

  • sometimes this guy sounds like piers morgan lol

  • mhehehehe loving the bits between 1:15 and 1:28 X-D Fair comment though, lag is pretty naff with this thing.

  • I love the look of the rovio but after seeing this video there is no way I would buy one. The thing that kills the Spykee for me is the fact that it has no option for moving its head.

  • head and hands would be nice.

But then rovio can move it's head, but it's pointless. who wants to see the ceiling?

  • Haha, Very true

  • looks like you had some other bright light source... is it possible it interfered with the rovio 'seeing' its 'north star'?

  • No. And anyway if you can't use the product in a lit room then.....

  • SUPPA WASTA

  • hahaha i love the rusian moon jest

  • who has the money for 2 remote controlled wireless internet robots? =P jealous

  • Haha, you're hilarious in your frustration. :) Love this.

  • spykee ftw. Spykee assures u that its a good robot. Rovio.....well lets say it has bugs to fix

  • it works just fine when i tell him to go home or what i recorded.

  • I'm sorry you had so many problems, but ... haha, that was downright hilarious. "He wants to live there now."

  • hey we have the same computer monitors! =)

  • Im came close of purchasing a rovio. i think i wait unit they work out the bugs out.

  • New firmware seems to have helped a LOT.

I keep meaning to do a follow up video.

  • i got a rovio i spent a lot of money on it and i can only use it on my iternal network. they make it so hard to use it on an external network. i tryed everything port forwarding, dynamic domain, upnp, this shit dosnt fukin wrk!!! please help me

  • best thing to do:

get spykee. Spykee falls over and has a few minor, easy to fix bugs, rovio has BAD bugs. next time you get something, compare it and watch review vids.

  • u must have a slow internet

  • I just showed the internet is fine. I used spykee over the same network(s).

    I'm a nerd, I know shit.

  • Could it be things like the table and other objects blocking the field of view? I'm guessing it has to see the North star at all times.

  • Do you mind if i ask if you are on a Fiber Optic connection. If i was to use the Rovio on a Fiber Optic connection would it be any better.

Thanks I love your vids :)

  • Really good reviews on the Rovio and the Spykee. Most other videos don't tell me anything useful but yours covers everything that a buyer would want to know. Thanks alot, going to order my Spykee soon.

  • LOL...this is funny

  • I have a Rovio for a year and it doesn't take me 2:51 to logon through the Internet. It is, in fact, very responsive. I wonder why it took so much time to start up on your network.

  • He is correct. I have a Rovio as well. Extremely slow and unresponsive.

  • Ok now, what robot is better rovio or spykee?

  • Rovio sounds shit i'm buying spykee

  • my rovio goes goes on automaticly.(he probobly uses dial up :D)

  • rovio is good

  • my don't you update the firmware. Your review is correct for the initial shipment apparently. To be fair minded update the firmware and retest.

  • I kinda lost energy with the robot when it didn't work. It's still there, in the hall, not plugged in, covered in dust.

I shall have to drag it out and try that when i get time...

  • i have a rovio, and it works like a charm, controls are very well, picture is clear and fast, even on my iphone it reacts perfect, even if i'm not on a 3G network.

This guy here, is giving critism that is not correct. We've tested both robots, and choose permanent for the rovio cause of it's good quality and quick responds...

Ofcouz if u use a crappy network and crappy computer it's all screwed up...

ok the light is not that bright, but with a little mod it's a flare, and also works very well.

  • I was certainly one of the first to own this product. I was on the waiting list for months.

I'm sure the version you've purchased now has had many bugs ironed out.

I showed you the network is fine by showing the spykee (same network(s)). The computer is irrelevant, as you pointed out, it works on a phone!

I could show you again, it's still here, in a box, still not working.

    I could/should update the firmware.

They initially shipped an unworking product:fact.

  • That's no different to DG834G modem, or a Xirrus array though. All are shipped with many bugs (as well as IE software). I really think you have underestimated the importance of firmware and how core it is to operational stability. Despite that, fun video, i've never seen these things before! Why don't you write some of your own firmware? :D haha

  • I couldn't comment on other products you mention but the robot clearly wasn't ready for production, why rush/spoil it? You'll find a number of videos on youtube with folkes having problems. They rushed it just as the spykee folkes did in the race to have the first one out.

If you're interested in writing your own code for the rovio it is possible, check out robotsrule. Far from my own firmware I have tinkered with it :)

  • That was hilarious at the end!!! LOLOLOL

  • You are right, the ceiling, floor, almost floor looking is a good example, that people are not capable to lead projects, and get now in releasing and selling just ... guess the word...

  • It's slow because you probably have a virus. I will post a video response to show how fast it really is compared to Spykee. I havn't got both but Rovio is not that slow. It's very fast.

  • Believe me I'm a computer professional. I showed you my network/computer speeds were fine by using the spykee on the same networks (local and remote).

    It's slow because it's shit.

Perhaps you have a later firmware version, or a later robot.

  • Somehow I think your Rovio is defective. Mine has no problem around my house. I wonder why?!

  • Rovios are so cool...

I have one but i wish to sell it, its on ebay for £130 if you are interested :)

  • are you working for them?

how can we check you are not doing publicity for a wrongly engineered product?

    Post videos proving

  • £50 we have a deal :D

  • if you don't like your ROVIO, why don't you just give me that.

  • oh btw...you might wanna make the camera can see the infra red dot on the ceiling...the camera needs to see the infra red dot otherwise it can't triangulate its position....im pretty sure it doesnt have an IR sensor...

  • i have 1 it is fine you are stuped

  • I love irony.

  • Have the latest firmware/software updates help at all with the Internet lag ?

  • Okay, so have you tested this Rovio via other wireless routers/modems? I haven't seen it this slow on other home-made videos here on youtube. The more recent ones are even controlling theirs through an iPhone without problems.

  • Wow. Thanks for that. I'm glad I bought Spykee now!

  • I own 3 retail store and had ordered 4 of these per store all 12 were sold and returned. the Rovio is very hard to set up and there is NO customer support on it. If you call there tech support line you get a recording to vist there web site. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU CAN RETURN IT, BECAUSE YOU WILL!!!

  • i kno why u can look at seling.

is becuse u may have a shanderler and

    you may whnna see it

  • if u my have one wich would you have spykee or rovio?

  • wow, thanks for this video. I was going to buy the Rovio until I saw this. Thanks!

  • great video and strong yet very valid criticisms, thanks for making this. great commentary too, especially at the end with the 'showing off' haha

  • Mine works great. Lil dark sometimes, but i like it. Email me if you want a test drive!

  • I do. It works great even over the internet? I'd love to try it and establish if it's mine or someone elses.

  • How the hell does the better framerate mean the better it works!!

The less framerate the less Data needs to be transfered, therefor the faster the robot should respond to movement through an internet connection!! So he tested it correctly.

I can assure you that spykee does not lag as I have one and he is very responsive.

  • Nice Room BTW

Video made me laugh, I use the word "Doobrie" frequently to describe something that I cant name lol

  • Nice comparison Video. I am so glad I bought a Spykee for 100 quid and not a rovio.

Although my first Spykee was 200 and was Broken!

Things I like about that Rovio is..

    1, There is an SDK

2, Awsome camera from what I can see and I am a CCTV engineer, 640x480 is VGA, Not bad at all for a robot.

    3, Camera Tilts

That Lag is diabolical!! Make your next video a video of Spykee pushing Rovio out of a window.

  • hey dude did the port number 9090 and it worked but i cant connect with any other networks what should i do

  • i mean that red thing above it. I didnt saw that. I dont know this gadget very much.
