I have the feeling if a pro instructor recorded my swing and i layed the club off like sergio that he would try to get me to make the top of the back swing more verticle pointing to the target. What negatives are there if any that can happen with a layed off swing like sergios?
@JAKEHARRIS281 Sergio's position before transition is perfectly on plane. He drops the club behind him while keeping his arms in front of him. His pivot movement is exceptional and allows the club to find the shaft plane and arc through while leaning well forward. Without this great body movement he would be totally trapped and we would not be looking at his swing. The combination, however, makes him one of the best ball strikers on the planet.
@TellDidymus Extremely complex. Just about everying in a swing is involved with the eventual approach angle of the arms and shaft. Like you said, not essential, but certainly worth attempting. Check my website for instructional videos and drills working towards a shaft plane approach and follow-through. If not available yet, soon.
@wdefrancesco Thanks Wayne... Actually, I was working on it the other day, and I was able to get back to the address position IF I stood up more and raised my hands a little at address. It feels a little nonathletic, but the video seems to show me getting back to the shaft plane.
Quick question... You've seen a lot of pros play. Would you say that most players rarely ever try to hit it "straight," but play some sort of draw or fade?
great analysis
