  • i have to mute the vid.,cos of the AWFULL SHITY MUSIC

  • who really gives a fuck this video shows two great players and reminds me of the late 90's early 2000's era of football where honor and passion were the name of the game just look at Overmars and Maldini goin at it you don't see this anymore because some fuckin retard like fuckin sergio busketes will fall over simply due to the force of gravity

  • Maldini knew Overmars was faster than him so Paolo made some fouls and stopped overmars the entire game!....That's a good defender!!! he did not got expelled so he won the 1 on 1 with Overmars.....thumbs up for Maldini one of the best defenders ever

  • Overmars was too much speed for Paolo Maldini...

  • you can tell maldini was having a bad day, he was angry and irritated. personal problems most likely. because if maldini could contain the likes of maradona and zidane and other legends, overmars, in all respect to his skill, was not at maldini's level.

  • @ForzaAquila haha, pathetic excuses. listen, if there are conflicting personal problems, more often than not, a player will not play. it happened with ronaldo in the '98 world cup final (at least, it was meant to) and that was a far bigger match.

just take off your azzurri glasses and accept it, overmars' raw pace and direct style was just too much for maldini. maldini is a legend, no doubt about it, but overmars made him look so clumsy and cumbersome. 1 - 0 to overmars, sorry man.

  • @mmLeftovers I'm not making excuses, foul or not maldini stopped him the whole game and he didn't get taken off the field. Overmars was faster and would've gotten away if maldini didn't force him out of control with brute force. Maldini did his job and Overmars didn't...who won there?

  • @ForzaAquila ahh, that ignoble art of italian 'defending' - perfected by claudio gentile, adopted by poalo maldini. while i cba to refer to the video, it's quite evident that on a number of occasions, overmars did get the better of maldini. the fact that maldini was actually forced to resort to brute strength is testament to that.

i'm pretty sure that on any other day, all but one of maldini's tackles would've been a foul.

  • @mmLeftovers ok tell me the times write for example 0:50 write the time where overmars had the number of occasions.

  • @ForzaAquila sure.

0:10 maldini times his tackle poorly and brings overmars down.

0:25 maldini clumsily brings overmars down with a late challenge.

1:00 maldini just about manages to wriggle free of overmars, but he's clearly under pressure.

1:25 overmars keeps up with maldini's run, eventually puts the ball out of play.

it's obvious overmars won this time.

  • @mmLeftovers 0:10 i agree on that one. 0:25: that's not maldini you can see because his shirt number is two digit. 1:00 they're both under pressure and maldini comes out victorious. 1:25 where do you see overmars putting the ball out of play? we only see them running along each other in slow mo for 3 seconds...somehow you predicted what came next? all i'm seeing is you protecting overmars. Yep he beat maldini once but maldini but him more than once.

  • @ForzaAquila 0:25 my apologies, i thought it was maldini. although in any case, why wasn't he in position? :p

1:00 i acknowledged that maldini got the better of him in this instance.

1:25 i'm assuming the ball went out of play from the bit that follows. that is, i assume it's going chronologically.

i have no reason to protect overmars, except that he genuinely did get the better of maldini in this case. and no, maldini never beat him more than once. if anything, maldini struggled

  • @mmLeftovers 0:07 perfect slide tackle. at 1:02 somewhat by luck as well maldini manages by rolling on the ground to make overmars lose control of the ball, at 1:07 in the same action he remanages to take away the ball from him...that's his objective...i'd say it's a win. and if a defender doesn't struggle that means he sucks or the enemy sucks.

  • @mmLeftovers not to mention tell me the exact time in this video where overmars beat maldini? maldini owns overmars at 0:07 and at 1:56. at 0:13 overmars would've beaten maldini, it was a foul, but he stopped overmars and that's what's important. Other than that one moment where he could've gotten past there are no other parts in this video that show overamars is superior to maldini.

  • @ForzaAquila okay, he stopped overmars on a number of occasions, but you have to consider the legality of so many challenges. all but i think two of these challenges were deemed fouls and i think that best shows how much maldini struggled with overmars.

nothing against maldini, he's one of the greatest defenders of all time, but this was surely a bad day at the office.

  • Here is Maldini pretty old. At the age 21-29 Overmars would have little luck with him anyway...

  • maldini the best for ever

  • @proFF77 Obviously you did not watch this game. Overmars was killing Italy, then the coach put Maldini to mark him, and Overmars was not a factor in the game anymore...just saying!

  • i always love fast sprinter footballers and overmars was one of the fastest in football history but look how maldini is stoping him.... even maldini was a lot lot slower than him and most of defenders but he had brain ... we dont have defenders like him today but i hope we will have.. i support chiellini for now lets see if he will get stabil ..

  • ahaha grande Paolo contro uno dei calciatori più veloci mai visti

  • Overmars was a very troublesome winger, but Maldini did his job.. if you cannot outpace him then you can outmuscle him and that is what Maldini did, it must have been hell for Overmars to be in such good form but not be able to do anything

  • @ProFF77 obviously Maldini was man marking Overmarse there, and his task was to stop Overmars by all means necessary...if dirty side of football could help, why not ?

  • on a wide space maldini couldnt touch him

his only chance as to get him on a small space where he could impose his strength

  • what you are talking about! This was the Euro semifina played in Holandl where Italy played in 10 since the beginning Holland didnt manage to score! Italy went to the final! It was an epic battle....yet Italy defense proved to be too good! Nesta Cannavaro Maldini...final score 0-0 although playing all game in 10 for 90 minutes

  • @cosvideo2008 You couldn't be more accurate... I will always remember this epic battle. Italy showed what perfect defence should always look like.Toldo greatlly contributed to the victory. Cheers!!!

  • GLI AZZURRI!

  • Maldini says he gives me the creeps that little fast thingy,

and overmars thinks dang he is so fierce if i dont watchout i lose my legs.

  • @lovingmontasoccer Ah ah You're so funny mate!

  • @FrenchRockNRolla7 thanks man these guys were awesome players.

  • @lovingmontasoccer Absolutely! And I really miss these players along with Vieri, Batistuta, Bergkamp and so on. I still love football today but I preferred 90s football.

  • referee should have shown him the red card when 'speaking' to him

  • only foul was the first one. in 1:00 I dont see a foul, he just was not able to get through. In 0:25= not maldini, i dont know who it is but its a double digit jersey.

0:48= not maldini, its albertini. I dont see the point of this video everybody knows maldini>overmars

  • @chicho00 I wouldn't be so sure about Maldini being above Overmars... They both belong to a category called LEGENDS.

  • Overmars unstoppeble

    maldini plays like matterazzi

  • @CharmanteBeer ur an insult to humanity get lost hahahahahhaha

  • @CharmanteBeer Are you out of your mind??? Materazzi is not a football player. Maldini is a myth. Period.

  • min.27 and min.47 maldini?!...

  • Overmars was freaking unstopable..

  • Maldini is outmatched.

  • Overmars would've smoked most other defenders. Maldini was the MAN!

  • je maldini was like 32/34 and overmars 26/27

  • both full speed!

  • This is maldini already into his 30s in year 2000. he had already surpassed and taken hundreds like overmars to the cleaners for a decade plus. he then went on to take more to the cleaners for another 9 seasons. he has more medals in his cabinet than overmars will have in his dreams.

  • Overmars made maldini look bad

  • Guys... it's sad, but to be the best deffender, you NEED to know when is the best time to foul, but not some stupid foul, be smart!! playing a clean game doesn't always cut it.... find the weakness of the rule and master it... and maldini simply has it... the best deffender w no doubt....

  • Remember seeing this match as a kid, it was an epic fight between these to players. If im not misstaken Bergkamp had a chance on goal after just a few min?

  • Maldini was the best defender?? yadiyadiayda blah blah blah BTW kick the ball dammit not legs

  • Maldini is the KING

  • Maldini is best at kicking other players instead of the ball :/ would make him way better if he drops that habit..

  • @RLRubenM 24 years playin with only ONE red card no seems nothing for u?

  • both legends!

  • Fuck everyone who says Maldini sucks. He is the best defender of the history of football. Capitano chi manci tanto

  • What a difference between football back then and now. Then they play the ball and work hard, even if the other guy is pushing and fighting back for the ball they don't flop like now a days. They fight back for the ball and play hard, now even a little push they fall to the ground. What a shame to those guys, now all but a few stupid players now play like that.

  • Maldefeni is the real name of maldini

  • Maldini motherfucker

    Overmars rules

  • @PatKick9 your fucking mom fucking dutch

  • love the way both of them are doing their very best to stay on their feet, couldn't imagine that nowadays :(

  • @gerrardsmiceralonso

you tel that to Cristiano, the most unbalanced player in the world

  • @gerrardsmiceralonso

    People just dive

There was a rumor that C Ronaldo took Ballet lessons why at Man U lol

  • overmars is nothing to competence with maldini

  • overmars speed: awesome.!

  • Well considering overmars is meant to be one of the best, fact is, maldini had him in check, better player would have brushed of maldini, or simply out sprinted//dribble him come on, messi = short, bla bla he would have shown much more resistant to maldini, and would have used his clever quick thinking to turn, under cut or go past maldini for definate, that's taking nothing away from maldini, but a few players a little after him would burned maldini, c ronaldo, RONALDO, ronaldinho, henry...!!

  • @amul566 Haha really C. Ronaldo would have burned Maldini? First of all Overmars did good not to dive, otherwise Maldini could have seen red. Second of all Maldini shows in this video how amazing his marking is, I doubt any player could play their usual game when being marked like that. Players you listed have only played against the 30 plus year old Maldini, Seriously I think Overmars did good with such a good defender marking him and he actually owned Maldini at least once

  • @SrwTJ10 C Ronaldo will never have the chance to reign over maldini on a full match. Because when CR is playing, Maldini is in the middle not left. Maldini was fast, but the real magic about italian's defence does not rely on the individual but the team work, chain defence or something.

  • In the five 1v1 of this video, Maldini commits 4 faults. In most of them Overmars was going easily thru him. Great defender, but he could not stop Overmars in a fair way.

  • @ProFF77

Maldini had great positioning. He wasnt the fastest and wasnt explosive. But at that point where most players are leaving the defender behind Maldini would just move in front of them hence not committing foul and keeping the player from passing. Some defenders think that as long as there's no card and the foul is committed away from danger but on a potentially dangerous situation if the attacker passes, they win.

  • @ProFF77 where are the fouls? at 0:25 it is not maldini check the number at the player's back.

  • @ProFF77 i only see one foul at 0:26 i don't see 4. remember it's a foul if the player enters on the body first. in all the other plays, maldini enters definitely on the ball first.

  • @ProFF77 No he doesn't. He is in the wrong on two occasions and they aren't even fouls.

  • @ProFF77 Maldini wasn't purposely trying to foul though. Overmars was just too fast.

  • @ProFF77 that's italian tactics for you.

  • @ProFF77 it's just one match. he stopped players way unstoppable than marc overmars

  • @lorenzomarini At that time, there werent many players more unstoppable... tell me just one

  • @ProFF77 in 2000? Ronaldo maybe? Maldini is been playing many times against Maradona, I like Overmars but it's not at that level, nope.

  • @ProFF77 easy to say that u dont play soccer u just watch it lol....you can make fouls in soccer, it is part of the game. You gotta be smart and not get a red card tho. Soccer is not like basketball that u cant make too many fouls or use ur body against the other player. Maldini was smart in that game against Holland thats why Overmars did not do shit....he can cry bout it but then he wd suck it up bc thats FUTBOL (a contact game)

  • @ProFF77 what are you talking about that is the way the game should be none of this pansy ass shit being played today. Forza MALDINI!!!!!

P.s overmars is also awesome but not as awesome as maldini

  • lol, questa partita la vince italia, e overmas go in home and cry, PAOLO MALDINI IS THE LEGEND, HOW PLAYER AND HOW MAN, and this video not have sens

  • Nah Jaap Stam was the best defender

  • @meesromijn ahahahahahahahahahahahhhaahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahahaahahahahahahahahah [to infinite].

  • @meesromijn Hahaha Stam is nothing against Maldini, Maldini is the best

  • Both top of the world, that what makes this one of the best duels I have ever seen.

  • Best defender? He is a typical piece of shit a-hole who doesn't go for the ball because the opponent is clearly faster and has better ball handling. This is so italy.

  • @zatilla ah envy..

  • @aBLINKtoTHEpast No, he's right.

More fouls then real and clean tackles in this vid.

  • @SjaanK85 you clearly think you can judge 30 years of glorious career just by 1:49 minutes

  • @zatilla

and your envy is so... I don't know, where are you from?

  • Overmars legend

  • Two equals meet. Although (even as a Dutch myself) I think Maldini is the best defender that ever existed.

  • All that was needed was an early Roy Keane tackle and Overmars was going to be quiet all game.

  • maldini got owned

  • @q8shiaprince not really, if then overmars got owned.

  • @Al2006essandro

overmars owned maldini everybody saw it

how the fuck maldini owned him ?

  • @q8shiaprince then open your eyes and look again at the video again. go to 1:00, and tell me who gets owned you blind fuck! just pathetic. Holland had 11 players om the field, Italy only 10...... THATS DEFENDING

And i saw this match live, i remember a couple of things Maldini did, which are not shown here.

  • @Al2006essandro

ok one time maldini hardly owned overmars just 1 time WHEN OVERMARS OWNED MALDINI 3 TIMES AND MORE SO SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU BASTARD and keep in mind holland got 2 panelty kick's lost away in that match before ITALY PLAY IN 10 PLAYERS YOU LIER

  • @q8shiaprince exactly, holland failed to score twice on penalty and with one Men more on the PITCH for 70 min!! and what happend??? ITALY STILL BEAT YOU IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY HAHAHA!

The emotions of this match i will keep forever. Thank you Maldini!!

  • @Al2006essandro

dude im not from holland loool but i respect overmars for that effort he owned maldini its part of the game and 4 your information italy lose to france in the final and maldini didt get shit looooooooooooool

  • @q8shiaprince I am really sorry for you. Because that Maldini never raised a world cup, is probably the biggest tragedy of football of which on the other hand proves that you dont have the slightest idea about football.

  • @Al2006essandro

dude i have the big idea but becuz you was rude with me i act like that i love and respect maldini but i got to admit overmars was fantastic too every player got owned maldini zidane ronaldo its part of the game dude

  • Maldini wins. and 0.25 isn't even Maldini(look at the back number), why put that foul in to make il capitano look bad?

  • LOL Overmars can outpace C.Ronaldo, but can't beat Maldini

  • imagine what c.r7 would get an diving award if he's overmars for sure :)

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • jeez how many fouls does maldini needs to make

  • @wesszzel enough to prevent opposing offense from scoring, but few enough to not get carded of the field.

  • @beebobox what a smart bastard lol

  • @wesszzel :P

  • @wesszzel

Frustration: he just came back from a bad injury and wasn't in his full shape. :-)

  • at 0:42 cristiano ronaldo would have dived and cried like a lil bitch for half an hour

  • omg at the charity match situation.... overmars is quick, but if u watch the video without biase its clear that overmars was a handful for paolo, but he was contained, he didnt let him progress, thats a defenders job...as a defender myself i say he did his job well..dont get me wrong overmars was a handful... but he was pounced on at every chance by il capitano.

  • @uma1r yeh but he didnt do it within the rules (maldini). From what i saw maldini should have been sent off. at least 2 chellenges were yellow cards (the one where overmars back heels hit and he just wipes him out is a definate yellow) and then maldini should have been sent off for persistent fouling. Overmars had the better of maldini because of his pace, maldini couldnt handle it so could only foul him

  • @superdave31 hmm, both our points are valid..however, im glad u came back with a mature response, instead of starting a dissing war like most fags on youtube do these days..respect superdave31

  • @uma1r lol ty. In general in arguments i dont tend to lose my cool. but a lot of people do. It can be pretty funny seeing peopel who seem to cry at any insult to their fav team or player... but yeh i aint too bothered myself! I dont really support a team either so i dunno if that adds to it or nolol .and credit to you being matture as well!

  • I remember maldini was coming back from an injury... he was not sure he would have played... they decided at the last minute... he was not at the top of his explosiveness!!!

  • In his prime Maldini would shallow Overmars and much better players for 90+ minutes.

  • Great game! Overmars was friggin amazing! Speedy Gonzalez-like! Maldini was also a 5 star player. One of the best duels i've had the pleasure to watch.

  • Overmars. Best. Winger. Ever.

Good old times when people didn't dive as much.

  • Maldini best defender ever !

  • @VincentSchiavone BEST DEFENDER EVER IS PUYOL

  • @vicentecala Puyol is very close to him, but in my opinion he had 2 many up and downs in comparison to Maldini. He was out of the extrodinary already with 17. And i cant recall any Defender that was so inspiring to watch except for Baresi. (like looking at Messi how he plays today) Wich are the most rare attribute for a Defender.

  • @Al2006essandro What are you telling me ?

    write better !!! T_T

  • @vicentecala or learn english.

  • @vicentecala no no no, i can speak english very well hahaha

3 months in london go far ;)

  • @VincentSchiavone

u see marc overmars pwnd him a few times?

well, i think hes good, but marc overmars is too fast vfor him ;d

(only saying thisbecause im dutch haha)

  • @VincentSchiavone yes he is but no one can stop speedy gonzales on his side :)

  • @VincentSchiavone Baresi was better.

  • overmars great player. Maldini too. Some smart tactical fouls he did Maldini cause overmars accelaration was surreal

  • Muchas gracias a quien grabó este video. Es un privilegio ver a mi jugador favorito de todos los tiempos (Overmars) contra uno de mis favoritos, en un enfrentamiento de poder a poder.

    THIS IS FOOTBALL!!!

  • holland shud've won euro 2000

  • the first 2 werent fouls the 3rd was but it was clever :D

  • Maldini and puyol were slightly similar or at least whenever they met someone quicker than them they seemed to use the same tactic of kicking them and the referees left them do it without booking them, maldini should had been sent off in this game for the numbers of bad fouls he committed on marc.

Maldini was always a better centre back than left back but couldn't play there because of baresi and costacurta,to me ashley cole is a much better left back than maldini ever was.

  • @akebefrontiere u smoke crack????? u talk so many bulllsh!t , its incredible.... Ashley Cole a better left back than Maldini?? and he was better as central ???? u are realy consuming hard stuff I see...

  • @zizinho2981 I would say that as pure defender maldini was better than ashley cole as players who are not born with pace have to work more on their games than the ones that have been blessed that way.

Ashley down the years has become the best left back in the world you can ask anyone and also the players of now like lennon,c.ronaldo, quaresma, robben, messi, valencia, all them players have never been able to get past him easily, maldini struggled big time because he was never quick.

  • @akebefrontiere Sorry son, can't agree..... I consider Ashley a world Class Player, but he will never become a legend... he's fast, but defensively much weaker than Maldini was.... f.ex. as left Offensive wiger i would have prefered to him hundred tiomes Roberto Carlos.... . anyway it's just my opinion...

  • @zizinho2981 Listen up boy, u know your onions with concern to Cole but ive personaly played against Maldini ( friendly in 1997 in aid of lali charity in budapest) & he has got a weakness when u cut in from the right. Now hold your horses i aint no pro but i can play & i gave him a nightmare.

  • @inkermanBs2 Boy? ... lmao ... sure u gave him a nightmare.... . so u talk about his performance in a charity game? what did u expect from him there?? sliding tackles?? hard tackles? please, if u know something about football u should never had made a comparsion to Maldini, a legend, probably the best left back in footballs history.... . Best is judge a Pro in a chârity game... , and dont tell me u played at high level , I did and still do play at a decent level, so "boy" u say to your brother.

  • jesus christ Maldini is lucky he is old and he was playing overmars if his parents fucked a liitle later he would be goin up against the dive machine the call Arjen Robben and who knows how red cards Maldinin would have racked up

  • not even ronaldo phenomeno at his best could do no shit against maldini

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 really??? /watch?v=Ci3N-k0lp7c&feature=related

  • @rvn1010 wtf why didn't i see that shit before

  • @rvn1010 whattheheck i didn't seen that before

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 neither did i until yesterday... but still... maldini did stop ronaldo with style sometimes... two great players they where.... legend defender and legend striker....

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 Probably dive whilst shaking hands with him.

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 watch?v=B_paNh6uMuc&feature=related any more questions ?

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 I guess that you're kidding right ? -__- ''

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 your crazy!

  • @gregoryjjasadirana94 yes and do at the same time lol.. maldini was awesome.. but ronaldo its a legend... theres likea 50% chance of success... for ronaldo.. love both players though, best attacker ever and best defender ever... i mean imagine maldini, nesta, and thiago silva playing together and maybe puyol there.. that would be a WALL

  • Yes! That moment on 0:10 shows how passioned where the players few years ago.. Football was simple and beautifull. For me the world cup of 98 was by far the best i've seen also the dutch team in this world cup was the best ever.. it was a petty they dont took it home

  • overmars=awesomeness

  • Can someone please send this video to those of todays players that seems to fall down every time even a little wind is touching 'em...?! Overmars was great! :-)

  • overmars, the fastest dutch player in history...

  • fair play LOL .. italians allways the same

    overmars > maldini

  • What a battle of two immortal titans

  • Italia has always played like this, it is not only Maldini, it is just the Italian culture.

  • Maldini is smart. Most of the time he just kicks hard enough to get the other off balance, and that's almost always sufficient.

  • great battle!

overmars is taking initiative & maldini reacted, so, i would say this is a very close battle between the 2 best players of their own positions.

  • overmars is better

  • maldini was not good enough to hold overmars

  • retarded music

  • Maldini siempre sera el mejor defensa Italiano de todos los tiempos

  • Respect Paolo! That's what you call intelligent fouls.

  • maldini just taught us how to defend!

  • Iitalians play one of worst footbal in the world... they just faul everyone and have no respect for other players. real footbal is in english and spanish leagues, not that much fouling and proper game and respect for all players.

  • @sekich no fouls in england???? You sure mate? Stay objective, Italians were always the best to defend as Brazil is famous for its attack.

  • @sekich

u r an idiot. i'm glad u don't like Italian football, cos u will make it disgrace if u r a fan of it. stay in ur hole and watch ur cheap "real" football.

  • what a battle!

  • maldini is teh best player of the world

  • Two legends of the 1990s pitted against each other... reminds me of those legendary 3 games in 94/95 when Ajax gave the great Milan side of Capello a torrid time, beating them thrice, including the 1995 final in Vienna. Overmars was among Milan's greatest tormentors in the 2 group games.

  • maldini made sure he never made his run
