before western and 39th...for many many years the drummers played at 39th and menlo, the n.w. corner of the l.a. coliseum. they were known as the exposition musicians, coliseum drummers etc. when new construction was done at that site, it was no longer possible to play there so many of the drummers went to the park at western and 39th. there were/are many fine drummers who came thru. i remember playing with them thru the 80s. but they were there long before that.
