I remember when I first started playing the drums, I used to think these grooves were too difficult for me to learn. I look back at these grooves and I'm sure I am capable of performing every single one! Thanks Jared!
good video, but tbh i didn't get a word you said. music and drumming is meant to be about self expression and enjoying yourself, not having to learn how to read or put and "ee" sound on the ends of words "/
I hate it when people like you talk down to sheet music like it's not expressive or enjoyable... it just makes no sense... Guess what, whether or not you know how to read music, any beats played on a drumset can be written down on paper so people who can't read music are only at a disadvantage.
The sky is blue... but not everything blue is the sky if you catch my drift... who said "self-expression" can't be applied to a written song that is meant to be read and played??
@jack7891 self expression shows your feelings and unless your playing along to something written for that feeling then its not self expression. i didn't say it was boring i just said that its hard to play from the heart if your playing something that some1 else wrote!!
Your lessons are put together really nice. I've been playing for 20 years (just for fun not professionally), and working on foundation rudiments is important. But, the manner you present things is straightforward and easy for a beginner to novice drummer to understand. Great learning resource.
wait EVERYONE let me explain he does RL on tom 1, RL on tom 2, then he does R on snare, L on tom 1, R on tom 2, and then he goes under his right arm with his left and does L on the side tom, it looks complicated and he didnt explain it that well but if u analyze it, its easy to figure out, its just fast, i hope this helped
@kevin0mc0kool Oh, I see! I started to wonder for a monent. Yeah, I have a laptop in with the drums to record, so I just sent the link to the laptor from the PC. It's a lot easier, than to walk up and down
these are great beats. you're right most drummers dont use the toms much. anyone who says this is gay or these are stupid beats really needs to get a life.
@oakenguitar3 Yeah, his name is Jake Busey, that's a Gary Busey's son haha and you know what? Jake Busey plays the drums in the punk/ska band called "Sons of the Lawless" ain't that a concidence? hahaha.
i learned the drums by learning how to play them to certain songs, mostly the beatles, since i did not learn any special things about the drums, will this limit my drumming ablilty?
@heroofolympus I doubt it will limit it too much. My dad showed me a very simple beat and gave me his kit. I still do rotten drum rolls lol but I am doing way more than he taught me, like double bass. He did say "you gotta think it to play it". Thats true enough. Just take the rhythms and beats that you know how to play and use them differently
ive been trying to learn but it is only easy when he uses the camera angle from the top cause the other angles are confusing me. i like to see the bass
when he explains it makes no fucking sense to me and he explains it as if its something tech but when he plays it its basic shit i learned in the first month of drumming haha.
Man, I hate it when people say Drumming is easy. <------ See? I capitalized it
It's that sexy. This girl in my class is like: "OMG ddrumming is soooo easy!! giggle giggle" Me: "Shit no its not" "Yes it is" "Who here thinks drumming is easy?!?!"
@MrWokaWokaWoka That girl must be an idiot. I'm sorry. What they do not know is that not only that it is exhausting, it needs shit loads of coordination.
@MrWokaWokaWoka Next time that happens, have 'em do drum beats repeating you.. guarantee most people wouldn't be able to do the basic 1,3 bass 2,4 snare 8th note hats beat... if they can play something ridiculous that they couldn't play back. then they will stop talking :)
Jared you're the man! Thanks for all the free info. Btw, for everyone else I recommend visiting his website where each of these videos are presented with sheet music. It really helps for learning.
Q: The second beat he plays is easy enough... but he says ad a hi hat tempo once you get comfortable, how can you possibly play a hi-hat or ride cymbal while playing the toms with both hands? i dont get it
i cant put a vid up but this mite help you out. 1 E & A 2 E & A. Say that in your head while playing you pronounce it like this....One E an A Two E an A. Say the letters not the sounds of the letters. Now each one is a hit on the drums 1 is your first hit.E is your second.& is your third and so on... thats how you count 16th notes. (double as fast as regular) S=snare FT=floor tom LT=left tom...
A suggestion, unless you really want the pattern, is to in the 3rd comp change the 2 strokes on the floor tom on the "and a" in the 3rd beat to double strokes. Ie. instead of on beat 3 going R L rack tom R L floor tom and then R on the snare, you go R L rack tom R R floor tom L snare. That will make it alot easier to hit the snare. Though practicing both is good, but I probably would have used the double stroke in a real situation.
@condor711 go to Jared's other YouTube channel "jaredfalk" and he has many videos on the stuff he uses on his kit. includes: sticks, cymbals, heads, etc.
Thanks Jared! And thank you for the overhead shot...I noticed that you have the same general configuration as my kit but yours definitely seems more balanced. I'm going to "steal" from your more balanced placement. Thanks!
