My wife and I will retire in the Ph, and I want to start a program to help these children by offering REAL solutions to real problems by keeping the religious aspect completely out of the issue. I want to provide food, clothes and give these kids a chance at just being a kid and having some fun in their lives. I do not want to tell them again to just go and pray to some God for a flippin' miracle. That is not realistic, and these kids deserve real help, not more religious doubletalk.
prettyboynelson, we are meeting this week about how to setup a foundation like "Second Servings" in the US where restos and hotels will give their leftovers to those in need. We will also couple the feeding program with values formation so that we won't just give them fish, we will teach them to fish. Contact me if you want to help out or explore more ideas thanks.

wusupbish i agree i think rght nw the big problem s not enough sex education about safe sex. i mean f we want to help families we should encourage them nt to have kids and educate them how hard it is to raise kids. Philippine government wake up and spread safe sex, family planning and to young generations
I make my donations yearly, but the problem will not proliferate unless education is given to extremely poor couples that are having multiple children that have no means of raising them properly. A lot of these kids will grow up and become criminals out of desperation and society pays for it. I blame mostly the church and their influence against the idea of contraception. Population control is one of the problems in the Philippines, they don't have one.
Yes families should practice natural family planning as all responsible people should. Blaming the church for promoting the best and most humane approach (no abortifacients, no killing of babies) is not helpful. The church's influence on changing lives for the better should never be belittled. Contraception brings about a destructive way of life to youth who view it as a license to wrongdoing. The Philippine problem is that 80% goes to pockets of corruption while only 20% goes to education.
I agree in that IDEALLY people should be responsible, BUT that not always the case in the real world especially with the uneducated sector of our society. Its like saying people should be responsible and eat healthy but in reality some of us dont. Most of us in our society can afford to live by these ideologies but in REALITY the unfortunate among us lacks resource to live on these ideas and there lies the problem.
@wasupbish, you're right but even if people don't "eat healthy" for example, we must not stop telling them and helping them to do so. Eventually with enough effort we will get to where we want to go, but we must not give up on our ideals and the best way to do things. Let's not just make a cop out and do the RH bill which in the long run will be VERY harmful for our moral values as a people.
A license of wrong doing? you mean sex? people are going to have sex regardless whether you like it or not since the beginning of time , so you might as well educate them about contraception and it should be nobody's business but theirs.
What is wrong doing are all these priest molesting little children since god knows when and the church tries to cover it up, they paid millions around the world trying to settle child molestation cases in court.
@wasupbish - Contraception causes cancer and sterility. Education must primarily be the parent's role. If you teach children too early in life "how to have a satisfying sex life" which is what the RH bill proposes, you will have very sick little children who have the wrong perception of this very sacred thing. I came from a public school and they taught all that but now they want to teach it in elementary. It will actually decrease the morality of the children.
What should be taught is natural family planning, not "just use this so you won't get pregnant". If you use a pill, you can get cancer and be sterile. Yes there are priests that have done very evil things. Still there are more priests who have served selflessly, even given their whole lives in bringing about good in this world. The cover up issue is something that should be investigated further and justice should be served yes but what does that have to do with this issue?
Yes prettyboy, all your comments are very true. That is what He Cares is doing. If you can teach a skill, let me know, we will schedule you because these go a long way.
Kadalasan kasi, the poor parents/children got the wrong message....magandang mamalimos kasi maraming naaawa....
Dapat hindi natin gawin silang ganito kundi mabigyan ng dignidad na tumayo sa sariling paa; they need to hate poverty and start fighting for it....
I do believe being poor is only in the mind; as long as a person is complete with ALL faculties that God gave him; he could win the fight against poverty.
Giving food, monies & sharing sympathy among the poor are temporary solutions; we need to teach these poor people "how to fish" (jobs or small business) & not make them dependent on other people's pity.
Kids must be taught on how to become good citizens & fruitful individuals when they grow up; and not to rely on begging & asking for help.
For me, I support the foundation/s I know are doing good work like He Cares Foundation or World Vision. They have been changing lives for the better for years. We just have to find these groups and help them reach more people. I don't believe in forming a lot of new groups where others have been successful (they just need more support). Let's do what we can, where we are, with what we have! :)
@prettyboynelson What we need to do is to get to know the people who are poor on your street. Get to know their lives, help them in the way we can. Let's not turn a blind eye to their concerns. Not all of them will take advantage. If you want to help, we have regular activities to help them. Contact me. Thanks.
You're on the right track. But freedom of choice and self-respect requires an "exchange of value" - small doses and gradual help requires patience. Character teaching is key in this context.

My line of profession is on business matters.
But, in my experience; determination, patience etc, & mere faith on God do matter whether or not one has or hasn't a skill.
Without those characteristics; a skill is good for nothing. This is what I strongly believe.

Calejbitsvyk, I did not see your comment on what you propose....
What is it all about the schedule you said?

Ang awa minsan ay may hanggan; kaya minsan ang mahihirap kinakapos din kasi naubos na ang awa ng iba;
Hindi dapat awa ang ibigay; kundi dignidad at tiwala ng sarili sa mga ito; kasi ang dignidad at tiwala; hanggang huli.
