Actually I think this performance is missing two verses. The ensemble singing is beautiful but the sopranos are poorly miced. Behind the lead soprano, who is slightly pitchy, is a chubby tenor whose vibrato is intrusive. More's the pity, because the ensemble singing is just about perfect.
@IRememberTheOldDays What went wrong with you and God, brother? Did He misbehave? Did he cheat on you or, was it you that cheated on Him? Did you find hes skills inadequate for the position of the supreme being? May be you disagree with his stile of governance and find Him unjust? Perhaps you have some suggestions as to how it ought to be governed? Well, tell Him than. I am shore He is listening. Pray, reconsider your decision.
@zengi7 Sure*, dear hart. And I'm afraid not, I am far too gone to ever return to the worship of, in my eyes, false idols and ideology (Not that I've substituted my faith with any other, I hasten to add.). I don't want to turn such a fantastic rendition into a source of argument and controversy, but I find the act of chance and natural progression infinitely more inspiring and awe-inspiring than worshipping a man from 2000 years ago who bled on a cross of wood.
@IRememberTheOldDays Yup, that's how it gets 'em! Christianity: harnessing the awesome capabilities of mortals and calling it God since time immemorial ; )
I hope this is a sound question in both senses of that phrase. Is the echo/reverb one hears on this video really so pronounced in real life or did the sound engineer (assuming the BBC even bothers) "juice up" the recording? As a Yank tourist I've visited this wonderful space but didn't have the chance to hear a sung service in person. There seems to be about a one and one-half second echo (if that's the right term) to the voices.
Miserere Mei Deus (Allegri) is absolutely the most devout and beautiful piece of music the human ear could ever know. Also, The Musicians of St. Clare, Conductor Carma Romano-LaMorte, sang an incredible and celestial rendition. It is no surprise that Carma is such a wonderful person and was a student of Sir Neville Marriner. Thank God for the people who are responsible for this music and the survival of it, in our globalized social and economic disasters.
Oh, yes, I totally agree. God is with us in this lifetime to show us a little of what will be in the next. The students of King’s College Choir, Cambridge, have learned a timeless masterpiece. Thanks to the soul of Mozart and the artists who can appreciate it.
They do a really wonderful job with this piece. It is one of the coral works that got me into Boys Choir. Jerrmey Budd was the Treble in my version. I love it!
Esecuzione splendida.
This is a followup, no I was wrong the version is have is by the St. Pauls Cathedral Choir with Jermey Budd as the Treble solist. I must put this one up. Right now i am listing to bothe your and mine at the same timw, and the chills are runing up and down my spine. Look for it on my channel. They are almost identaical!
Thanks, Drwestbury, for yet another high-quality recording. It's so nice to hear a take on this piece by a modern King's group—this looks like it was from just this year—and to get a glimpse at how the sound of the choir is evolving. Thanks again!
Ravishing! How lucky we are that Dr. Westbury shares his magnificent videos with us. And, how blest we are that really beautiful music is being preserved. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this beautiful rendtion. It is lovely. I have an older version from King's in Oxford. This is a gorgeous piece of music and if the story is true we have Mozart to thank for getting it released from the Papal archives. I would neither hazard a comparison between the two nor make any comment other than one of appreciation since my musicianship would not be equal to the task. Thank you again; it will be a frequent companion.
A very good performance indeed; however, the sensitive peak of the work seems to be too much for the children's quartet, no matter how talented and sensitive they certainly are. The introductory gregorian chants and the "tutti" are the best of this performance. Thanks for sharing it!
That is a truly wonderful, awe inspiring, soul touching piece of music magnificently delivered, to their usual high standard, by the incomparable King's College Choir. Bravo !!
