I remember learning some of the solos from this song when it came out. I can still play a few of them even though I havent played them in 25 or 30 years.
It's the pickup selector. Note there are two pickups on the guitar, labeled "RHYTHM" and "TREBLE". You can send either or both pickups' signals to the amp. With the switch in the down position, you are hearing the bridge pickup only. It is near the end of the strings. Switch up = neck (RHYTHM) pickup which gets its signal more toward the middle of the strings. Switch in the middle combines both signals.
alarm clock went off with this one playing back in the day. i hated my job, didn't want to get up, but instead heard this for the fist time. it energized me to tell my boss to ef off! ha! foolish, i know
@Warshadow4 It's the most recent acquisition, yeah. One of those "Orville by Gibson" guitars they were making for sale only in Japan about 15-20 years ago. I lucked out and found one of the really good ones.
Thank you for posting this great classic. It's on my list now :-) Btw, the video quality of your videos are outstanding. What kind of video cam are you using? (webcam?) Brand...model #? Thanks again!
@MsThomas122 It controls which pickup you are using. Rhythm for the neck pickup and Treble for the bridge pickup. Middle position for both which is what he has set up here
If you could cover one of his songs off the instrumental album "Fingerprints," like "Float" or "Shewango Way" (named after a street a block away from my former high school) that would be delightful.
@angela21215 At 1:12, that's an A7: A string open, D at 5th, G open, B at 5th. Then at 1:16, that is indeed the Hard Day's Night chord (although you don't get the same effect without Paul simultaneously hitting a D note on the bass). It's like a regular F except you cover the high E string at the 3rd fret.
@2Heinz2 It's a shame he was so good-looking back in the 70s. Because he had such teeny-bopper appeal, he could never really be taken seriously as a guitar player. But some of us know how good he is.
Used to sit in my room listening to my Dads LP of this. Good memories, now i stand a chance of being able to play the non- talkbox parts, look at me all grown up
I love Frampton! I actually saw his "Frampton Comes Alive!" 35th anniversary tour about a month and a half ago. It was my first concert and it was AMAZING! I went with my dad who saw Frampton back in 1976 or 77. Both of us thought it was better than the original tour. Nice job by the why!
@Sigma16Productions Saw that tour last night. The guy's insanely good. And I love that you can buy a recording of the show on the way out the door. Too cool.
Hey P/T nice going.....I always look forward to your uploads...when I was younger and this song was out, it always made the girls active for some reason....thx
Hey, i need some advice. I'm looking at a Les Paul Junior on the internet and it has the 50's style neck. I assume your Les Pauls have this neck profile and is it comfortable? Thanks.
@cola4369 I've had Les Pauls with all kinds of different neck profiles, but that's all a matter of taste. I actually prefer huge necks, very round. But a lot of people hate that kind and want a slim profile. You might go to the nearest guitar shop and try out a few guitars with different profiles and see what you like.
I feel a lot more like I do than when I got here?
