After completing the Forest Temple, you regain access to the Pedestal of Time so you can return to the past. Epona's Song is optional, but it is required to complete the Biggoron Sword Trading Quest, which is also optional.

Ahh, the limitations of the N64. Awesome, isn't it? That's normal, and don't worry, your progress has indeed been saved. When you load your file again, you will either appear at the beginning of the dungeon, inside your house in Kokiri, or inside the Temple of Time.

@doughcake34 You can go back to get the sun song as long as its in the past. If you're stuck in the future you'll have to wait until completing the Forest Temple. Then return to the Temple of Time and sheath the Master Sword back into the pedestal of time to return to the past.

Once you learn the Prelude of Light, you can go back to learn Epona's Song.

@theparodymonster1 If you already did 4 dungeons thus far you might want to check out the beginning of Chapter 8 of this walkthrough, where you will see Caleb getting this song.

I don't want to go into detail and spoiler something, but you will get it eventually, since it is needed to beat the game - well not the song itself, but the time you get it, is the time something else, that is mandatory, will be available.

Yes, after you complete the Forest Temple, return to the Temple of Time to learn the Prelude of Light from Sheik and regain access to the Pedestal of Time.

Once you have the Boomerang, you can return and use that to collect the tokens. Otherwise, if wait even longer, you can also use the Hookshot or Longshot to retrieve them as well.

I have the wii virtual console system i got realy far saving multiple times then when i turned it off and played later its started me off in links room right after you finish the first dungeon now im pissed and confused .... WHY WON'T IT SAVE!!!!!!?

These earlier Zelda titles put you back at set points when you save. For the overworld, it is the nearest place you visited and only two places: The Temple of Time and Link's House in Kokiri. If you really did save, then yes, your progress is still recorded.

As well as Marin and Tarin from Link's Awakening. However, it's worth noting that L and R are the same letter in Japanese, so that's technically just another way to translate it.

No. They go their separate ways. Interestingly though, the name for Illia is very similar to Saria, since L's and R's are the same letter in Japanese, you could say her name is alternatively "aria" which is dropping the S. A lot of the Zelda titles have characters with the same name who are almost, quite literally the same character in a different situations (but not that same character between games). In TP, Link and Illia do have SOME kind of intimate thing going on...
