People are talking about a possible "live action" version on this thread ....didn't Japan already produce and release one in 2010? Search in Youtube for "Yamato Movie 2010"
@TEHTYMEKITTEH1 its battleship shaped, know your WWII naval history. besides the only similarities it has to a penis is it being long and hard and full of seamen... lol
@waynebighorn A Starblazers series with production values like those in the BSG revival would kick ass IMO. I think a series would retain more of what made the original series great, and it might even be better than the original, because episodes would probably be an hour long and there would be more time for character development and to explore stuff that had to be trimmed out of the original series. I recall reading that the Iscandar arc was supposed to be several episodes longer, for example.
@maikeru48 yeah bro I agree with you. Mr vinegar thomas is waiting like we all are for it. BSG style would be great for the Star Blazers/Yamato series. of all the fans globally.
@10soarxo All the fans want a modernized version of Star Blazers on it's own terms, not the terms of an Americanized remake of a 70 Star Wars ripoff show that deconstructs the Space Opera genre to it's core.
@waynebighorn Personally, I'd rather see them do a live-action series of Starblazers. I think it would be better, because they wouldn't have to condense the plot to fit into 2 hours & wouldn't have the same pressure to turn it into another cookie-cutter event film. I'd hate to see them water down or trim out all the stuff that made it such a great series for its time, like the pathos & character development.
@waynebighorn It's not Disney - I think they had the rights a while back but never did anything with them, and they lapsed. There was some talk a few months ago that Skydance Productions, the company that did the True Grit remake, is negotiating to get the rights for an English-language live action film.
@DarthAverage- Capt Avatar...Dennehey is a good choise....I think Ed Asner would be better..(Crusty curmugeon he is..) Kodai/Wildstar....thats pivotable...they need a kid whom is been on the brink and need a good film to set him on the spot like Shia had Transformers. And Ron Howard's lil girl is great for this flick. If Nat Portman can pull off Padme...Howard's baby can do this!
@Wildstar100 Hi there- I think that I replied to you by accident- I was trying to reply to one of the posters who said that marvel is doing a SB movie. Let's hope that it's true!!
@waynebighorn And where exactly did you read that? The only site I could find that on hasn't been updated in years. Besides, after the Japanese version of last year I'm not too hopeful for an American one either.
Hmmm, Dennehey's a nice choice. Good luck getting Wildstar/Kodia! As for Nova, I have a more recent actress from Boy Meets World of all places. Lindsay Rideway was the young lady who played the youngest child of the Matthews family. She was just 'blossoming' when the show ended & is a cutey. She's probably smoking hot by now at age 24. But for Desslok(a better more EeeeViiLL[say it in Mel Blanc's impression of Vincent Price!] sounding name!), I give U...Jude Law! SEQUAL?-->Who would play Zordar?
Perhaps Venuture(I'd use that name cause it sounds cooler!) could be played by Tom Welling(Smallville). For Yuki, since she is rendered as a blond, She also would be an American. Haley Osmont would be my choice. And for captain Avatar(original Japanese name escapes me), Toshiro Mafune!!!! If he's unavailable, the Great Akira Takarada. Just my opinion...
Who agrees that about ten to twelve yrs ago, Helen Hunt('Mad about You' with Paul Rieser) could have played Starsha? Maybe Japan's Oda Yuji as Kodai(To pay homage to the good aspects of the American Edit, they could 'stencil' on the side of Kodia's space-fighter, 'The Wildstar". Another choice could be our own Danial Day Kim or perhaps Karl Yune(Die Another Day & Speed Racer). I'd use an actor who has a strong, refined english accent for Venture(Yes, I would make the cast more multi-racial. MORE
I notice quite a few scenes from the two Playstation games there, such a pity you cant play them in english on the PS2, cause i have them and would love to play them.
that is amazing, where are some of the live action /cgi moments from. I never seriously considered a live action film of this, but now I could really see it

@Velocity9s Okay, since we're doing fantasy casting...
Capt. Avatar: Brian Dennehy
Daisuke Shima (Venture): I'd keep him as a Japanese character, as a nod to the original
Nova Forrester: Liana Kerzner (Canadian actress and very active in the comic/anime community, so she "gets it")
Desslok: Eddie Allen, the original voice actor - why not? No one else is going to nail that character down so perfectly...
Wildstar: Me (just as soon as I get my Actors' Equity union card...) ;-)
