@Gades117 this movie is AMAZING! i hate you guys who just go on movie clips to put down rude things. if you didn't like the movie the first time then why watch it again? it doesn't make you look cool, just stupid. didn't anyone ever teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all?
@wolfgirl1528 This one was the only one I saw due to people telling me how good it was. So I says..... Ok it must be really good because it got such great reviews... Then it turned out to be some sorry movie about a woman who needs to save the farm... My life was more heroic that this fuking joke.... Make it about the horse not your stupid female drama.... Hes on the cover but the film was about some woman....
my granddaughter and I have just finished watching this brilliant movie and loved every last minute of it. It truly brings tears of joy to my eyes as God wants for us to have this same type of lifelong victory.
i love how everybody is making negative comments in the movie like " This is to Fast! No horse can take this pace!" or " Sham - PUSHING - Secretariat even faster!" they dont know what they are talking about...
@ModernJockey Actually they completely knew what they were talking about. What Secretariat did that day was impossible. I was watching it on TV and I thought the same thing, that he was going to run out of juice like Sham did. It never should have happened and it has never happened since. But on that one magical day we watched the impossible happen.
I was unsure of how this scene would be done justice, after my father showed me the real footage a few years ago, but they did this just wonderfully- even adding in the upward angle that the racing cameras take photos at and the way the jockey looks back. All the little details made it work. Kudos, Disney! And what a great horse they got to play the role!
Randall Wallace is a screenwriter who is trying to be a director but should stick to being a screenwriter because he is a tone deaf hack at assembling all the different elements into a final product. Just like his first 2 films Man In The Iron Mask and We Were Soldiers, this movie is a turgid paint by number exercise.
Also one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I remember sitting in the theater with my mom and seeing this part. My jaw literally dropped when I saw him pulling away and my mom had tears in her eyes. Of course she then brought up the actual footage of this race on youtube and once more I was floored. Agreed with mookus, the placement and timing of the song was PERFECT!
In May I bought a chestnut 16hh 7yr year old ex-racehorse as my first horse. They cost pence because there are so many of them and everyone said I was crazy... Best desision I ever made. I live on a farm and you get 20 arces of some hilly some flat grass land with a small patch on woodland inbetween with a wide path running though it... imagine hacking calmly on the way out, then on the way back turning him loose and heading for home at a full gallop. Support Ex-race horses!
Ironically Sham was a great horse also, but to secretariats greatness sham never raced again, I remember reading when eddie maple rode him at fort erie I beleive he said if I lose this I won't be able to go home, the movie is great better made than seabiscuit, but both were good What we ought be waiting for is the movie about probably the best horse that ever lived ZENYATTA in my opinion
@tomg1946 no offence but whats so great about zenyatta? yeah, i know she broke a few records but sec was alot better than her and not to mention Ruffian which was way better than her. So im a bit confused and i know there are gonna be better horses in the future than zenyatta in my opinion my fav horse today is probably Hansen which is a two year old male Hes gorgeous and fast but my question is, Does he have enough stamina?
@TheExoticAnimal lets see... she won the Breeders Cup Classic? does that help? she was sound for all of her career. she stepped up when no one else would.
@HorseCrazieGirl15 Ok? And so has many other horses. She isn't the greatest horse alive. I think its pretty selfish to think only about her, when there are thousands of other beautifully spirited horses out there also. As i said before. Yes, she is a great horse but she isn't the "Best". Secretariat was an amazing horse, Ruffian was and so were others. That still doesn't change my opinion, I KNOW there will be better horses than her. just like there were better horses then seabiscuit.
@bermypass When did i ever say he was a she? Read more carefully next time. Plus All i said was true. Not saying my Opinion is true but i feel it is. So you! Get a life.
@BreyerLoverHorsie78 Sorry if you read all my comments wrong.... ive never said they were bad creatures, actually i said there are thousands of great horses. im not arguing anymore, well trying not to. But every time i try to stop, they keep commenting.... i love horses actually im going to be an equine vet when im done with college so im not saying that horses are bad.
@TheExoticAnimal Thats great! Glad to know you're a horse lover and going to have a job with them. I would be a vet, but blood and surgery isn't my thing. I'm instead going to write books about horses and possibly train Thoroughbreds to race and/or event.
@BreyerLoverHorsie78 You like writing too? Cool :D yeah, Im almost positive im gonna be an equine vet, but i still want to do something else with horses on the side.
i cryed because it shows how much an animal will put out there for us. and it just shows how much of an amazing animal he is and i know hes gods gift.
Secretariat i dnt care who you are was down right the GREATEST racehorse the world has ever known. He achieved the impossible. He is truly the greatest. I wish i could have seen the actuall race in person! I would die a fufilled person. =) Everyone who watches this movie should be touched my the greatest racehorse ever born.
Imagine if they never would have held him back in previous races. His real personality comes out in the Belmont. If you watch the real race you see that everytime Sham came up to him he pushed harder until Sham was the one who burned out. Red has the heart of a giant! There is now way he would let a horse beat him after his first race. He was the most dominant athlete of any sport. You probably won't believe me but, I saw this horse walk on water. ;-)
The actual live footage from 1973 was way more epic!
.
People consider this race of Secretariat's one of the greatest athletic performances of all time... for everyone, people as well. I'm blown away that every 1/4 mile was faster than the last... he was getting faster and faster as the race went on! Just amazing...
@kb4653 Secretariat is still running! 38 years now an still no one has come within 2 seconds of his record an flat out no one is close with the margin of victory.
This scene was a no win proposition. There is absolutely no way, no director, no writer or actor, not even the "glorious" music, that could capture the real live amazement of Secretariat in the Belmont.
The one excellent decision in this scene though, was to have the anticipation of Secretariat coming around the turn and the camera angle emphasizing how he was all alone. I would have cut the "Happy Day" music and stayed with that though - it was enough.
@KaryDoom.....Ronnie Turcotte is another sports hero of mine and you should be extremely proud to share his hometown....that man has faced adversities most of us will never know or understand and still shows the champions' heart he shared with Secretariat....
4 a horse who was built on speed and not stamina bold rulers offspring has a 22 pund heart full of stamina boldness and determination....thats what my mother would tell me every night before i went to bed....my grandmother gave me an gift...it was a recording of secretariats win all i have to say is AMAZIN oh ya lol love the video ^.^
@starfirestarfire678 watch the real race, this is the most shitty race call and the shittiest possible direction and production.
i just cant understand how can you replace chic's call with this morons and the strides of the hero horse are so clearly not the strides you would see in a race, its so clear that the race has been shot in segments.
this movie was the biggest disappointment for me when it comes to movies, i waited more than a year and a half to watch it.
One of my favorute scenes in movie history! Secretariat was the greatest racehorse, and this was his greatest race, probably the greatest athletic feat in history. Sea Biscuit Kicked the shit out of this movie thanks to the beyond terrible acting and directing.... Yes I could do better.....
