  • Excellent version!!

  • BIOMETRIC ID + IRIS SCAN + FINGERPRINT SCAN = MARK OF THE BEAST

  • <3 I love this song and the pet shop boys!! <3

  • Какая сука закрыла PSB в России?

  • Sublime.

  • very integral Pv

  • What an amazing video! so artistic and smart

  • Great song, great message. Love PSB

I actually favor the introduction of a biometric ID system. But it absolutely has to be implemented properly (in a systems design and cryptographic sense) or else it is just an invitation for abuse and tyranny. Hell, the systems governments (US and UK) are pushing are more of a security risk than asset. "Security theater" does far more harm than good.

  • It's a scanner!!! Brilliant!

  • Holy shit, this version is even more horrifying than the album version. Especially with the video. I'm glad every one of us will probably be dead before this song becomes truth. I'd die fighting to prevent it.

  • what is this song even about?

  • @TheMushroomArtist

The song is a protest song about the introduction of biometric ID cards into the UK and the National Identity Database. I suggest you read 1984 by George Orwell.

  • @jonoboo

They got their inspiration from "We" by Zamyatin, so that would be a better choice. You should check it out. Both are great books though.

  • This is such an intricate piece of art on the perpetually urgent issue of the fragile civil liberties we need to maintain.

  • @MrHandagote I completely concur. "If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to fear (really?), if you've something to hide, you shouldn't even be here (what might that be?)." London now has more cameras in the city than people to monitor them. I am in favor of keeping the public safe, but where do you draw the line when it comes to personal privacy? I love the Pets, they make gr8 music, but also make some kewl social commentary, & I think this 1... check "I'm with Stupid" for more!

  • I think this song is about of create a new perfect human being with advanced technology

  • Quite a video.

Odd how PSB also means Public Security Bureau (at least in mainland China anyway).

  • It is funny that all of my friend still love me, even from first grade:and yet my two brothers hate me, and have always hated me! Oh well they are CRAZY!

  • I like the song and I understand what they are talking about in the song.

  • This is a well crafted dance song-pop song, the pet shop boys know how to make them, but the autotune...not cutting it for me. Sorry.

  • @mutedisease

I don't hear Autotune, just voice effects :/

  • Great album and song, but this song was better Live I think.

  • He who would trade essential liberty for some temporary security deserves neither. -Benjamin Franklin

  • @tcct01 I couldn't agree more. Ben Franklin was right on the money with that assertion. Do I agree with everybody's opinion, hell no; but do I agree that you should have a right to your opinion, even if I disagree with it, hell yes!

  • @tcct01

He who would make inane, impertinent quotes for meaningless political posturing deserves to be ignored.

  • @tcct01 that was originally by j.s. mill, author of On Liberty!

  • Most of you say how awesome the video and song are, but you don't understand the true meaning of this song. :(

  • @hresad You'd have to be an idiot not to see past the subtleties of this song for the subject matter. One world government, dehumanization to the point where we're commodities, the whole Orwellian outlook on society, etc. etc.

  • Awesome vid and song.Pet Shop Boys are great as always.

  • It's great seeing the Pet Shop Boys taking a political stance in this single and 2006's Fundamental, It's Alright is anouther great example of this kind of thing.

  • I've seen this video in London Design Museum. It's a unigue technique of animation going on there on these papers plus it's kind of bar code. good music too.

  • loved psb since '85

  • Best PSB Video ever but identity cards are normal in Germany, but the Video doesn't exist on DVD :-(

  • welcome to the "war on terror" , welcome to the new order.

  • what chart position did this reach

  • @CANBERRACOURTBOY does it matter? Some of the best PSB singles IMO didn't "chart" anywhere except to the top of my heart. hehe.

  • im not slagging them off or anything they are deservedly the greatest duo in the world of all time i just wanted to know the chart position of this because it should be no1

  • Must Get Mp3 on this video !!

  • It's a great video though!

  • My thoughts exactly; it's also a pity that they didn't release it before Blair departed, as it doesn't resonate quite as much under Brown. There is a Steve Bell cartoon of Tony Blair with the world as his eyeball; I always thought that was a perfect image for the original mix of the song.

  • they have blew getting this high in the charts, as already said the album version is mile better, this should of been a B-side.

  • Why do people constantly write 'should of been' instead of 'should have been'? I am not a native English speaker, but this strikes me as such basic mistake, almost impossible one to make, really...

  • It's an aural, not a written, mistake -- in a lot of English-language accents, "could of" and "could've" sound nearly identical. I imagine most languages have similar little slip-ups that defy grammar but still appear frequently.

  • @Olomoucboy

'should have' like many other phrases in english is often abbreviated to 'should've' - the ''ve' is pronounced very much like the word 'of' - that is why the written mistake is often made

  • @Olomoucboy Because the 've in should've when spoken quickly sounds like should of.

  • @Olomoucboy believe it or not when you learning english you become more aware of its structure and stuff. Is like a guy in a wheel chair; he will probably value walking more thn other people. When I was learning English I also made few mistakes and when I was in a normal English class I was surprised for the mistakes that some native speakers made. However now after years of speaking everyday I made some of those silly mistakes because I get carried away by the pronunciation.

  • @Olomoucboy - because that's how they learned it. When the word is contracted, it sounds like "should-of", therefore, what is typed is what is 'heard.' Like you, I wish ALL students would have a better command of the English language, as it not only reflects on how good their command of the language is, but on how well it was taught.

  • @Olomoucboy The irony with language is that the earlier you learn a language, the more you learn it by feeling, and that way you don't learn the rules, which makes the rules easier to break. I'm sure you do this when you speak your native language, as I'm sure I do in mine.

  • @Olomoucboy Native speakers of any language are actually more likely to use slang than non-native speakers. I am a native speaker of English who is trying to learn German, but it's hard for me to have a conversation with someone who speaks native German because they use so much slang.

  • Who cares about the chart position for a fourth single off an already dead album that was released for more than one year ago? At least we have some great remixes in addition to the album version...

  • i like them both, but why they used a remix for the vid, i have no idea

  • The original album version is quite, quite superb and one of the best pet shop boys' pop songs ever recorded.

This, on the other hand, isn't.
