This guy is clueless. I would suggest he read Cliff Slater's report on the demise of light rail in the US. It wasn't a conspiracy theory though the tin hat crowd loves to think that. No, people just found cars worked better at the time. They may not have had the foresight to see the drawback to cars (traffic, congestion etc) but at the time buyers chose cars because they liked cars better than light rail. GET OVER IT. NO CONSPIRACY HERE.
@TimKGrimes Speaking of not smarter... Comparing the Volt to EV1 range is for those with no idea what they are talking about. The EV1's range needed a large battery and once you drove that 100 miles you were done. Unless you weren't worried about running out of range you could never use all 100 miles of range.
The Volt is much different. 1st it's range is unlimited since you can always add gas. 2nd because of the gas motor, you can always use all 40 miles of range. Yes, it is more advanced.
Chevy VOLT is GM's answer to the public wanting an EV. "So you think you want an EV, eh? Try this on for size! Hahahaha $40,000.00-plus price point and FORTY-MILE (40) range!!!
I WANT A FUCKING EV1 NOW.. but that wont happen because GM is fucking around with their wanna be "green theme", and their peice of shit hybrids. FUCK GM!
We aren't fascists because we haven't yet been killed by the Gestapo for our comments ;). Freedom to express opposition to the established government is not a characteristic of fascism. But Extraordinary rendition, the lack of state-independent Militias, etc... I agree with you. I disagree that we are the new Reich. The US has been an ally with Israel, I think, for selfish reasons (Gen 12:3). Death in the Middle East is nothing new. Jews & Arabs have been in conflict since the time of Abraham.
And they call the U.S. a 'free market' society, when the consumers, employees, and communities effected by corporate decisions are actively and intentionally kept out of the market process. Mass transit won over the private automobile to consumers, but that didn't make as much profit for industry or as much taxes for government and didn't inflate the GDP enough. Thus industry and governemnt got rid of it to our expense. Thus America has more cars per capita than anywhere else on Earth.
Indeed. 'Capitalism' can exist without the 'free market' that the ideology is founded upon when you have big business and big government both making sure that neither ever shrinks in size and scope and both making sure what should be a free people become subservient to their interests. There's words to describe such a system, such as 'corporatism' or 'fascism'(depending on definition).
A car being a virtual necessity in the US is no accident on part of our 'leaders'.
I'm not so sure we are at the point of fascism yet, as most Americans still feel they are over their government. But corporatism and imperialism are both valid descriptions of modern USA.
If there isn't change soon, this nation is doomed. That's why I find EVs so attractive. They are not just a symbol of clean air, but also a symbol of withdrawn foreign policy, self-sufficiency, domestic energy, cheap and reliable transportation-- all these point to positive change for the People.

EV1 range: 100-120 miles (1996 technology)
Chevy Volt range: 40 miles (2010 technology)
GM's corruption has (unbelievably) increased in 14 years.
And for all those years, they are none the smarter.

Such is life in capitalism. Greed wins over the good of society. If you want something to catch on, you have to make it profitable.
