15% poor, 9% addicts... thats bullshit!!! as of December, 2011 nearly half the American population were considered the working poor... and 4.5% of Americans who have college degrees are unemployed which exposes the fact that our education system is fucked up!!!
@Sumoto999 Bill is usually pretty fair? is that senence even possible?
I know that you said in comparison to the rest of his network, but it still sounds EXTREMELY wrong.
He interupts, yells and shouts, twist sentences and facts and demonise his guests in pretty much every debate hes in. Bill o'reilly is a complete douche and the people listening to him and agreeing to him without seing what a scam he is are probably more fucked up than the substance abusers they are talking about here.
My hatred of Bill O'Reilly has been reinforced. I hope O'Reilly lives long enough to realize all the damage he's done and starts to at least try to make amends.
Mr. O'Reilly is a classic case of a person who has made a wrong assumption about something and, based on that wrong assumption, made many more such incorrect assumptions. Much of what Mr. O'Reilly knows...is wrong.
How can poor people afford to smuggle billions of dollars worth of drugs into this country??? Oh that's right it's rich people who buy them for the poor. Black market socialism.
His argument makes the assumption that all 9% of drug addicted people are poor. That's slightly ridiculous, all people with substance problems aren't impoverished.
4.5% of college graduates are unemployed. The other 95.5% are working jobs like McDonalds and Target. College students spend thousands of dollar getting a degree in a certain profession, then can't find a job in that profession and have to settle for minimuim wage. If every college graduate didn't settle for anything less than the profession they studied for, the unemployment rate of college graduates would be much higher.
Your stats are flawed. You must watch the Young Turks and Media Matters channel a lot.
The major a college student gets their degree in matters. Example, a college graduate with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Business, Accounting, IT or Architecture will look more attractive on a resume than a degree in Mass Communication, Sociology, or Psychology. (You need more than a Bachelor's to do anything w/ psychology, btw.)
"3rd stat is unsourced. After presenting unsourced stat, he jumps to the conclusion that the supposed 9% of our addicted population is contained solely within the 15% of poor people! Logical fallacy! Even if addicts are over represented among the poor, doesn't mean that they're all poor. Many of them who are "unable to make a living" (his words) may be residing in the middle-class, that just means that they can't hold a job, it doesn't automatically mean that they're poor." - Steve Parker
Great now i do drugs, what is bill talking about he needs to go to a ghetto or a poor white neighborhood and live there a few months to really get to know the people before he goes and says people struggling are just drug addicts, such bullshit, i can barley get a job at burger king because they have hundreds of apps a day, or a department store were i have to take a piss test, 100 question psychology test and then interview were they grill you and are still testing you WTF, just to sell cloths
Let's for a second suppose that only 4.5% don't have a job, but the ones that do have a job, do they have a job in their field? Or are they working in Wal-Mart and other jobs that are usually done by people who lack education, thus limiting their chances of finding a job in their field and being forced to work out of necessity.
His statistic is probably accurate technically. But the catch is, that's ALL college graduates. The majority have had 10, 15, 20 or more years to find a job, so that's not really saying much, you know?
I know we're not supposed to wish death upon people, but I'm starting to get the feeling that if O'Reilly suddenly slipped into a coma no one would hold a prayer circle for his recovery. Especially since he loves to hate a majority of the people who now occupy this country. It seems to me as if he's still living in the 1700's like the rest of his ignorant privileged hick friends.
I am so happy NOT to live in America. Because of course, in America, if you are poor, it is your own fault, and by the way, if you are poor you're very probably a substance and child abuser. How do people like this Bill be allowed to talk on TV in the first place?
Some people who are poor are poor by their own choices. Example, getting knocked up while still in high school is a person's choice. Same thing with abusing drugs or cutting class to hang with the cool kids.
A father who runs off on their kids is at fault. So is bad parenting.
Though I agree there is a small % of poor people who are not at fault.
your country has some pretty awesome people in it.
But, my god, you have at least as many unbelievable morons. I truly feel sorry : / I hope you find a way to deal with them before the madness spreads too far...
I love how Bill O'Reilly tried to make himself sound credible with his last "statistic", when it only makes him sound even more incompetent. "I'm going to ignore every intellectual thing you just said and throw in this stat that I read somewhere."
@Onieracraft It has been proven that O'Reilly has distorted the truth about his previous working class roots in order to gain sympathy from the public. He certainly isn't poor now. However, I was saying that he has white privilege, male privilege, and financial privilege. A quick Google search will help explain what those are, as I only have about a hundred characters left to type here. Let me know if you have any questions - I'd be more than happy to have a discussion! :]
@Camille4Peace Now privilege would imply that O'Reilly was somehow unjustly advanced in his journalistic career by , let's say his parents fortune. While his roots weren't certainly poor, they were lower middle-class. Now, not too many rises to be a best-seller author and acclaimed host even from those conditions. If every single white male from lower middle class has that kind of a backing, as you claim, we would have hundreds of O'Reillies. :). Wikipedia is your friend on this one.
fucking bill o'reilly and his sneaky rhetoric. he says that "we treat everybody the same here" because god-fearing Americans want to believe that they're not racist, so will agree with him when he says that blacks are seeing racism where it's not.
I don't understand who even watches Bill, or why he's famous for anything other than being an idiot. Nobody on the internet seems to like him, so unless there are millions of Americans who just watch Fox News all day and don't have internet access, there's something wrong here. Maybe Fox is just trolling everybody.
@Ry0wn That sounds about right, Fox's audience is mostly composed of backwater hicks who have only just got used to the idea that television isn't some kind of dark voodoo magic; so I really doubt that many of them know how to work a computer.
"The worst you can do to ANY human being, of all races, of all colors, of all creeds, is to make them feel invisible, to make them feel disposable, or an afterthought."
This was a fucking pony show.......Bill O'Reily you are a bourgeois elitist and un-American. He doesn't give a flying fuck about poverty. It's not even a race issue, it's about the fact that you have a false sense of privilege. And how dare you make any mentions of college educated people. I know plenty of us who can't even get jobs in our respective fields because THERE AREN'T ANY FUCKING JOBS. And their are plenty of hard working people, who are poor, who have no desire to exploit the system.
@BlaqGurl25 Well perhaps you should maybe stop and think that perhaps there isn't all that high a demand for the skills that lost of college educated people spent time and money learning.
Also that there are no jobs in part because the capital that could have gone into creating productive jobs has gone into in homes, in consumer goods, and education that doesn't teach people much in the way of being productive. The USA and the EU are deleverageing, from the spending, get used to it.
I like how Tavis says "Calm down" to Bill when Bill is getting upset over being a liar and defending HIMSELF. But Bill tells Tavis to calm down when Tavis is getting passionate about the issues of our Americans who are under the poverty line. I think it shows the difference in character between the two.
Even if the unemployment rate amongst college graduates is as low as 4.5%, I'd be interested to know what their *underemployment* rate is. The underemployment rate in the US is higher than the unemployment rate. Yes, they may have jobs, but that does not mean they are making a livable wage capable of paying off their education. It's an incomplete statistic.
Socialism? Forced income distribution? 80% of the stuff that came out of his mouth was nonsense and absolute trash, There is no credit to his evidence and no value to his argument. It's funny how an ignorant, stuck-up upper-class buffoon can have his own talk show.
The correlations between O'Reilly's "statistics" on poverty and addiction were totally implied. There is ABSOLUTELY NO evidence presented by O'Reilly that connects the two statistics. To make such accusations without even attempting to create a logical connection is unbelievably shallow. Even worse is that there exists an institution that broadcasts and promotes this pathological character. This is widespread psychological injustice. This is why people are in the streets.
So from what I am hearing is that college graduates are fucked because the underlining foundations of the society they are dropped into after graduating don't give a shit? Some people can't see how warped the world is becoming for the next generations are being nurtured into. This makes me so sad.
It's like the people in these comments legitimately don't realize Bill is a character, knows he is, and doesn't actually believe 90% of the shit he says but is pandering to a viewerbase.
Doesn't make it less deplorable when they claim to be a news source, but goddamn guys
@WhatYouLikeSucks The Bill O'Reilly show is not Satire, he is not "putting on a character" he is claiming to be feeding his viewers "facts" and "straight forward information". If he doesn't believe what he is saying is fact and true, then why the hell does he have his job on a "News Network" and not a comedy show.
@hsimpsonaz Uh, hi. Just because they call it a news network doesn't automatically make it one. If you buy into that then you're too far gone to merit continuing this.
Are you fscking kidding me? "We treat everyone the same here"? HELLL no. He has the PRIVILEGE, as a white, male, cis-gendered, straight, Christian American to believe and say that, but it sure as hell doesn't make it true!
@boobytrapzap Asians have a higher income than whites and when you control for I.Q the income disparity between white and blacks disappear. Further more religious white Americans tend to be poorer than less religious Americans. Also ashkenazi jews have by far the highest income ( unsurprisingly the highest I.Qs too)
@dancedanceeyeah Lol, when in fact we can only afford the cheap drugs. It's asshats like this ignorant mother fucker that can pay for his drug habits. Privilege at its finest. But you know, according to him I'll have a job once I finish school. Which is bullshit because there are no jobs. Personally, every single person below the poverty line should camp out on his front lawn.
@haphazardharlot EXACTLY. Poverty in the US tends to be cyclical too. Most people under the poverty line will eventually crawl their way out, but approx 5% will be stuck there their ENTIRE LIVES. And that's fucked up.
Bill and others like him are making value judgments based on the Fundamental Attribution Error- not taking into account the actual cause of poverty and instead just blaming to poor. That needs to stop.
@googlemaster0001 If 95% of people will get out of poverty in one generation then clearly the chances of being in poverty two generations is very slim. Just .25%.
@45means45 ... No. "95%... will get out of poverty", do you not know what the poverty line is? People who don't make the minimum income necessary for a healthy standard of living. And there never was "95% of people" living below the line. 15% of Americans live below the poverty line. When I say "5% will be stuck there" that means they were born there and will die there. The other 10% living below the poverty line will crawl their way back-up & others will fall below the line. Hence, "cyclical".
I swear this guy has some of the most intelligent people in the country on his show, then proceeds to be loud and obnoxious. He just TALKS OVER THEM LIKE A CHILD the entire time. Dear Bill O'Reilly go fuck yourself. (Coming from a girl who wouldn't usually say that)
It's so easy for him to criticize the unemployed and the poor, as a white man with a successful television show on a conservative network that pays all of his bills. Congratulations to you and your privilege Bill, but frankly you have no right at all to speak for ANYONE except the 1% of the people you stand for.
O'Reilly, you shouldn't try to lie with statistics. 15% of AMERICANS live below the poverty line. 9% of AMERICANS have a substance dependency problem.
I confused by how Bill wants us to think that that 9% is made up entirely of people who live below the poverty line. I call bullshit motherfucker.
Those stats at the start are all kinds of screwed up. He is implying that 9% of the 15% are poor because of substance abusers. You could be above the poverty line and still have an addiction that prevents you from working. There are plenty of rich alcoholic/drug addicts. (Lindsey Lohan)
It's okay for O'Reilly to say that when he's making $10 million a year. How he gets paid that much is beyond all moral comprehension. That's another big enough scandal - how ANYONE needs to be paid that amount of money a year, while others don't even have enough to feed their families is the WHOLE reason behind the Occupy Wall St. protests and the others that have followed. He basically spends his days talking over people while spouting leaning statistics taken out of context. He makes me sick.
Substance dependence... YEAH THE FUCKING PILLS THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWS TO BE ADVERTISED... the poisons they put into our water. Fuck O'Reilly, this man is insane.
O'Reilly should take my job for one day and tell the unemployed college students I teach with that, according to statistics, they cannot find a job because the majority of them are substance abusers.
Oh, my god. O'Reilly pretty much epitomises what I resent about Fox.
This is embarrassing to watch. Smiley and West are articulate, coherent, and patient to the nth degree. Their points are valid, and all O'Reilly did was undermine and distort their words, the entire interview. This is exhausting. I don't understand how long people can remain deliberately blind to the inherent hypocrisies within the economic system.
@notrllyamoviejunkie That's O'Reilly for you--he seems to prefer shouting matches over actual conversations. The thing that infuriates me (well, ONE of the things) is that he seems to go out of his way to prevent Cornell and Smiley from actually responding. He's not actually interested in what they have to say, he's only interested in belittling them on national television.
Ahahahahah had to save some face w/ that last statistic, irrelevant to the flawless answer Tavis just gave u, eh Bill? Oh, & Btw. Think u mixed up a digit or two.
"According to Bureau of Labor Stats, in March'10 the nat'l rate of unemployment in the U.S. was 9.7%, for Americans younger than 25 yrs of age it was 18.8%.
In fact, according to a Pew Research Center study, approx. 37% of all Americans between the ages of 18 & 29 havebeen unemployed or underemployed during this recession." Hm, Bill?

"What

She is a smart kid, so, I asked her, "What does President's Day mean?"
I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln etc.
She replied, "President's Day is when President Obama steps out of the

unemployment."

But Bill tells Tavis to calm down when Tavis is getting passionate about the issues of our Americans who are under the poverty line. I think it shows the difference in character between the two.

My first thought at the end there was, "YOU CAN'T BE A COLLEGE GRADUATE IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD COLLEGE, IDIOT."
But your point is really good too, and well said.
earthan 4 months ago 2
Even if the unemployment rate amongst college graduates is as low as 4.5%, I'd be interested to know what their *underemployment* rate is. The underemployment rate in the US is higher than the unemployment rate. Yes, they may have jobs, but that does not mean they are making a livable wage capable of paying off their education. It's an incomplete statistic.
RorySammon 4 months ago 14
@RorySammon Or working at jobs they were actually trained for. Just adding.

All I head from Bill was "You're educated so you have to back everything up, I'm not so I can just say what I want, it's my show"
That was painful to watch.

Socialism? Forced income distribution? 80% of the stuff that came out of his mouth was nonsense and absolute trash, There is no credit to his evidence and no value to his argument. It's funny how an ignorant, stuck-up upper-class buffoon can have his own talk show.
MrDaviddavedave 4 months ago 2
The correlations between O'Reilly's "statistics" on poverty and addiction were totally implied. There is ABSOLUTELY NO evidence presented by O'Reilly that connects the two statistics. To make such accusations without even attempting to create a logical connection is unbelievably shallow. Even worse is that there exists an institution that broadcasts and promotes this pathological character. This is widespread psychological injustice. This is why people are in the streets.

oh my fucking god... I am actually speechless.
So from what I am hearing is that college graduates are fucked because the underlining foundations of the society they are dropped into after graduating don't give a shit? Some people can't see how warped the world is becoming for the next generations are being nurtured into. This makes me so sad.

LOL Bill O'Reilly is a piece of shit.
gogozo22 4 months ago 8
It's like the people in these comments legitimately don't realize Bill is a character, knows he is, and doesn't actually believe 90% of the shit he says but is pandering to a viewerbase.
Doesn't make it less deplorable when they claim to be a news source, but goddamn guys
WhatYouLikeSucks 4 months ago
@WhatYouLikeSucks The Bill O'Reilly show is not Satire, he is not "putting on a character" he is claiming to be feeding his viewers "facts" and "straight forward information". If he doesn't believe what he is saying is fact and true, then why the hell does he have his job on a "News Network" and not a comedy show.
hsimpsonaz 4 months ago 2
@hsimpsonaz Uh, hi. Just because they call it a news network doesn't automatically make it one. If you buy into that then you're too far gone to merit continuing this.

boobytrapzap 4 months ago 7
@boobytrapzap Asians have a higher income than whites and when you control for I.Q the income disparity between white and blacks disappear. Further more religious white Americans tend to be poorer than less religious Americans. Also ashkenazi jews have by far the highest income ( unsurprisingly the highest I.Qs too)

dancedanceeyeah 4 months ago 10
@dancedanceeyeah Lol, when in fact we can only afford the cheap drugs. It's asshats like this ignorant mother fucker that can pay for his drug habits. Privilege at its finest. But you know, according to him I'll have a job once I finish school. Which is bullshit because there are no jobs. Personally, every single person below the poverty line should camp out on his front lawn.

teddymoon 4 months ago 4
@haphazardharlot EXACTLY. Poverty in the US tends to be cyclical too. Most people under the poverty line will eventually crawl their way out, but approx 5% will be stuck there their ENTIRE LIVES. And that's fucked up.
Bill and others like him are making value judgments based on the Fundamental Attribution Error- not taking into account the actual cause of poverty and instead just blaming to poor. That needs to stop.
googlemaster0001 4 months ago 5
@googlemaster0001 If 95% of people will get out of poverty in one generation then clearly the chances of being in poverty two generations is very slim. Just .25%.
45means45 3 months ago
@45means45 ... No. "95%... will get out of poverty", do you not know what the poverty line is? People who don't make the minimum income necessary for a healthy standard of living. And there never was "95% of people" living below the line. 15% of Americans live below the poverty line. When I say "5% will be stuck there" that means they were born there and will die there. The other 10% living below the poverty line will crawl their way back-up & others will fall below the line. Hence, "cyclical".
googlemaster0001 3 months ago

(Lindsey Lohan)

arlenethedancer 4 months ago
It's okay for O'Reilly to say that when he's making $10 million a year. How he gets paid that much is beyond all moral comprehension. That's another big enough scandal - how ANYONE needs to be paid that amount of money a year, while others don't even have enough to feed their families is the WHOLE reason behind the Occupy Wall St. protests and the others that have followed. He basically spends his days talking over people while spouting leaning statistics taken out of context. He makes me sick.

I don't understand how long people can remain deliberately blind to the inherent hypocrisies within the economic system.
notrllyamoviejunkie 4 months ago 140
@notrllyamoviejunkie That's O'Reilly for you--he seems to prefer shouting matches over actual conversations. The thing that infuriates me (well, ONE of the things) is that he seems to go out of his way to prevent Cornell and Smiley from actually responding. He's not actually interested in what they have to say, he's only interested in belittling them on national television.
