  • Ah.. my favourite Pacific fighter.. but I'd love to build one as used by the British in Europe.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Same, I've only built the American Navy version by Revell, that was a very good kit in my opinion although it was about 3 years after I built it that it finally got painted! The only other version that you could do in that F4U-5 kit by Revell was the Marines version! What other kits would you advise as I am quite a an of the corsair? :)

  • @Spitfire44679 The1/72 Hsaegawa kit is quite nice (Building review video posted) and I have the 1/72 Academy kit as well to build, which seems very nice.. :) You get a choice of canopies with that one.. What I like about the Revell kit is that you get the radar, so you can build a nightfighter version.. if you can find suitable decals.. :0)

  • @BasicModelling Ok I shall watch the Hasegawa kit Building Review now on your channel :) I wouldn't mind buying another Revell kit of it then, and building the Night Fighter :) That is the F4U-N right?

  • @Spitfire44679 As far as I know, yes.. I need to get myself another Revell kit too, but I think I may have one in my stash, that I bought ONLY to use the tailwheel of, as I wanted to build a Focke Wulf 190 Torpedo bomber, and needed a raised tailwheel.. If so the radar and everythings else should still be there.. :) The Revell Corsair I made years ago is long gone, I did not do a good job of it.. :P

  • @BasicModelling I see - well, I have a poor old Fairey Swordfish Revell kit that I built amazingly, with the propeller spinning easily, the cockpit detail brilliant, but I ruined it by using the Revell White paint... it is truly horrible stuff. It looked fine at first but after it had dried the white coat of paint started to crack and fall off (I shook the pot for about a minute). Maybe I did not shake it enough??! But I will never be using the gloopy blob again!

  • @Spitfire44679 Revell white paint??/ Say no more.. :( I don't think it would have helped if you had shook the paint for half an hour.. Did you stir it as well?? The Revell Swordfish is not a bad kit, is their reboxing of the old Matchbox kit, and personally I quite like it.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Nope, I didn't stir it but that may have been why as the gloopy stuff sinks to the bottom and the oil (I think) end up floating on top! From now on I will only be using Humbrol and Vallejo paints!! :)

  • @BasicModelling Oh and I am not sure if it is a Matchbox kit :) Have you built it?

  • @Spitfire44679 The Swordfish? Yes, I've built it twice.. and yes, the Revell 1/72 Fairey Swordfish is definetely the old Matchbox kit reboxed..Most of the Revell kits issued these days are the old Matchbox toolings. Revell bought all the moulds from Matchbox when that company stopped making plastic models.. The kits are easiley recognisable if you look at the sprues.. They normally carry a small square saying 'Made in'.. which should read 'Made in England', but England has been removed..

  • @BasicModelling I see, so why didn't they just add Germany on to the end of 'Made in'? :D

  • @Spitfire44679 I do not know.. :)Probably easier just to remove Britain and leave it blank.. :0)
