Dimple sucks. I was there today and got sucked under pretty bad. We hit Pinball pretty hard and I fell off and got swept under our boat. I was under for quite a while fighting the current. My girlfriend went downstream pretty bad. Definitely not for the feint of heart.
I was the only one not scared to do it until i was switched in the front before that then we slammed into the water i was near the dimple when my foot pushed of the edge and I grabbed onto the webbing on the side of the raft and my fife jacked slipped of when my friend eric clung to the back of it like a becon of hope and I whent under I'm to say i survived.
@justjoe032 Yes, and I did about 20 years ago - pretty spooky. The fatality rate on the entire river is about one every other year which is amazing given the number of people on it.
Thanks for putting this up. Rafting the Yough is really fun, but people need to be aware of Dimple rock and the threat that it poses. You must really be aware of what you are getting into if you decide to do this rapid.
yeah you deffinately wanna be on the RIGHT of that rock, but dont let that scare you, even if you DO go left and you DO fall out you still probably wont get stuck
I've been on this river 7 times now and i love it, i took a little swim at dimple once this summer...a little scary haha, but the last time i went, i went with some friends unguided, it was a lot of fun b/c u didn't have to wait for all the rafts to come out of the rapid, we went at our own pace...needless to say, dimple is a little more scary without any guides around
I flipped at Dimple too! Only w hit Pinball, which slammed us into Dimple. My aunt, uncle, cousin, dad, and twin brother all went for a swim. What fun! We even had a guide STEERING our raft.
I love rafting down there. We just got back earlier today. We had a group of 1 raft, a double-ducky, and 2 single duckies. Sadly, every one of us flipped except for the one single ducky. Dimple Rock doomed us haha.
lol!!!! i did this same thing today we went completely wrong from the very beging and hit it and flipped with my mom and brothers and i could barely breathe til the next stop point.
i did the lower yough last year. the water was low so there was even more of a danger of getting stuck under the rock and drowning. many people chickened out. my sister included. my dad, mom, my friend peter, myself and our guide went through it though and almost flipped. it is a very dangerous rapid when the water is low and no one was allowed to go down it without a guide so they slipt the guides up within the boats still going and down we went. it really wasn't that bad though.
this awsome and its like doing the disoc with the boat when going back wards.i cant wait and were going july 17 hang on to your hat and grab your grandma were for wild ride.
Quite a few boats and people go under the rock -- it's severely undercut (I did it some years ago) and most of the people doing this are rafting for the first time. The ones who made it (the majority), have been edited out for the sake of silliness...
Personally I've never had an experience with an undercut, but I'm surprised they let rafts go through there without a guide on such a dangerous rapid (even if it looks mellow).
Although the video may not show it, there are guides that stand on top of the rock guiding rafts through, as well as many people standing by in kayaks.

Is it me or did half the boat at 1:30 get sucked through the undercut?
Also, some of these people need to gain a few more rafting skills, because there's no such thing as rogue lateral waves...set your angle!

And to think, there are those who would like to blast this rock out of the river. Stay at home if you don't know what you're doing.
