"China is communist"...pure BS. A lot of ordinary Chinese people are purchasing stocks on the Shanghai B and Shenzhen Composite market on a massive scale. You can't trade stocks and be a communist country at the same time, especially if you're selling off your state-owned assets to private firms (an idea that many Chinese workers truly dislike and in fact protested against the so-called "Chinese communist government" over the decision to privatize knowing that they will be laid off.)

FYI, the Chinese military total inventory and the number of infantry has drastically gone down over the years. The reasons why the DoD is concerned about China is that the Chinese military is adapting high-tech weapons such as ASAT, cyber warfare, and are building a solid defense industry. The US doesn't like global competitors, especially the Military.
