Ok 10th planet wants to be different..Fair enough. BUT What I see is 95% of all his moves Are in fact made up of general BJJ. BJJ fundamentals are what will give you the edge. keeping it simple is not only great for Gi but also for no gi and MMA. simple things work. Rubber guard is not for everyone. I dont diss it, but please 10th planet...Stop dissing GI. Its a Sport like any other..Dont be arrogant
@junfan1234 What are HIT and MAE exercises? Im not familiar with them but I have heard of HIT before. Grip training with the GI is really specific obviously, doing pull ups and hangs from gi lapels are AWESOME ways to improve gi grips (notice I say gi grips not total grip strength). Some info on HIT and MAE would be much appreciated!
@Armbar4you For the specific grip exercises im talking about look up on youtube moment arm exercise and Bill De Simone. Hes written a ebook/book on the bio mechanics of proper strength training and exercise. Hes a personal trainer and has his own personal training studio. His videos show how to do the different exercises, do that with HIT, such as what you would learn from reading a book called "Body By Science" and your grip strength and overall strength will be be on a whole new level.
taking nothing away from this dude he is without doubt awesome....but for him to say "I am the biggest fan of jiujitsu but finds the mudials boring" is like saying "shagging women is for queers" ....gi game is part of jiujitsu...and give it some respect. I fight gi and no gi and do just as well in either. But i think he is prob is smoking toooo much
"If you don't know his shit, YOU'RE FUCKED!" lol Joe Rogan, so eloquent with his words. I am a huge fan of training Gi, but we do train No Gi from time to time. It makes you completely rethink your game and how you move. In my opinion, both are fun, but I prefer Gi.
i think that if you want to get the most from BJJ you should train in both Gi and No Gi. Gives you more options for competitions. my own opinion, both are great to me.
its just hype for his gym and everyone thinks its more than that, our gym trains mostly gi and we do most of the same moves shown in the video and guys from my gym win pan ams and other big no gi tournement s and they only train gi and they train no gi for 2 weeks before a tournement
@geobros Why train no gi at all if gi training is so superior? That's the beautiful hypocrisy of people who live and die by the gi. They say that gi training is the best of all, but when you get ready to fight no gi, you train no gi.
@pearcemark2 do whatever you want to do, if you like 10th planet, live near one and are real flexible I would go as well... as for training nogi you have to get use to the grips a little and the speed and slipperness thats why you have to train both. you get a good work out with gi training
@pearcemark2 Incorrect, for example when training for Abu Dabhi Marcelo would train 4 times with the Gi for every 1 time without. Of course No Gi and Gi are different, but when you practice with the Gi it leads to better learning, gives you more time to think and makes you pay more heavily for simple mistakes.
I trained four months No Gi exculisvley 5 times a week, then did a seasonWrestling and just now I am starting to train 3 times Gi 2 times No Gi a week. Gi is just superior teaching tool.
@freddycatreddy Go ahead and buy the tagline they feed you, but it's simply not true. How does learning to defend a submission by grabbing a sleeve help your no gi? How does learning to set up your moves by grabbing a collar help your no gi?
There's nothing that you can say that objectively proves that training with a gi enhances your no gi game, other than the fact that you're rolling and getting reps in, but if the reps are practicing something that you can't use no gi, it's not worth it.
Even Marcelo Garcia says the gi is important. Of course if you wanna do no gi you have to train in no gi. But Marcelo himself said that gi refines your technique.
i know this comment is a month late so i cant tell you your comment is outdated cuz well, im late too, but eddie has had a change of heart, he said in an interview hes bringing the gi back and i guess hes rediscovered the importance of it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Eddie Bravo taps Royler Gracie one time and he thinks he's the shit. It's his only notable victory. Rubber guard has been around for years. He just made up the little steps "mission control" and shit. And who is the best at no gi aswell as gi BJJ? Roger Gracie, Jacare, Marcelo Garcia. They all train with the GI all year then for maybe a month b4 ADCC or something they'll take off their GI and practice. Besides ppl aren't as sloppy with the GI on. It teaches better form and less strength.
no marcelo trains no-gi everyday as does roger and jacare. yes the rubber guard has been around for awhile but eddie took it that next level not to mention he developed a whole new jj style(10th planet) twister side control, his half guard game, butterfly guard, spider web control are all different than orthodox jj. you just proved you know nothing about eddie and 10th planet jj with what you said about mission control please from an educated opinion before you comment on something
If you know eddie he says all the things your saying, he gives credit where credit is due. He watches everyone compete and admits Marcelo Garcia is probably better then him, also rubber guard isnt shit without all those little things.
"Marcela Garcia is PROBABLY better than" hahahahahahahah ummm YOU THINK ?????
Please enlighten me on what exactly Eddie Bravo has accomplished on an INTERNATIONAL level ??? Or even on the top level circuit ??? Grappler's Quest, Mundials, ADCC ???? huh huh ??? He is a very good grappler and teacher, but come on... he cant even be put on the same page as Marcello Garcia, Xande Ribeira, Rafael Mendes, Andre Galvao, Roger Gracie .... etc etc ....
gi adds way more to rolling, way more to do and defend, i just think its alot funner but thats just my opinion. marcelo garcia hardly ever trains without a gi and i'm sorry but eddie wouldnt stand a chance against him
I agree.. and also, WHen you train with GI and then fight NO GI its easier to addapt... cause you start to relize what you need to use to make up for no GI.. WHen a NO gi guy comes intoa GI fight he knows nothing about GI and gets tapped in a matter of minutes.
I would have to disagree on the gi part, eddie doesn't mean to be disrespectful but realistically people don't wear gis or clothing similar to gis, I think he is inventing a lot of cool stuff too, I think the gracies have done a lot for mma and for martial arts, i respect them and i like a lot of the gracies and how they fight but I believe they should also be in the movement of jiujitsu to advance not just eddie bravo by himself
""but realistically people don't wear gis or clothing similar to gis"" People wear jakets and sweaters all the time.. you can even cross color choke someone with just a normal shirt.
eddie bravo is awesome but to completely disregard gi training is a slap in the face to the history and culture of brazilian jiu jitsu. i guess eddie will never have a chance at winning the mundials
I think you are missing the point. Not everyone feels the need to pay homage to (what is in his opinion) an arcane style. If you think it is useless, training it out of respect is still useless.
No way!.. people who train only no GI get dominated by GI trainers. i know cause i trained with GI for over ayear then changed to a MMA school where there wa sno GI but some classes we did GI.. and with no GI i could hold my own but they usually got me.. but when we put on the GI noone could beat me but the teacher..
I agree some of the jiu-jitsu drills are monotonous but to disregard the gi completely is to disregard the entire art that made him. he should not call his school jiu-jitsu if there is no gi training. Eddie is creative, but his style is not an end all. The gi adds resistance which in turn makes you advance far quicker than without it. Watch Leo Vieira(who trains gi)smash eddie.

I think doing HIT and doing MAE exercises, especially with the forearm, will give you so much more hand grip/strength then doing anything with a gi
