@mistersmith6000 I live in Perth, and that doesn't look like our skyline. It could be a "made up"skyline for the ad. I can tell you that if this were the Perth skyline, the road the ute is travelling on at the time is definitely a fake. The nearest road that would look like this is at least 35kn from the CBD. It's too small to be Perth, as there are a lot more skyscrapers than this, and a lot of them that aren't "square shards of glass."
@zawad17 Not true. The nearest place from you where you could get one is England, where they're sold with Vauxhall badges. But they've been as far away as South Africa, Greece, Saudi Arabia, and even a handful in America
@xsonz2 1934. Although it took Holden to perfect it. The story goes that a farmer wrote to Ford Australia, saying he couldn't afford both a new truck and a new car, and made the suggestion that became the ute. When Henry Ford found out about it, he liked the idea so much he took it back to America with him. The US Ranchero and El Camino both evolved from that concept
These were supposed to be brought to North America and have a pontiac grille put on it. Too bad that fell through. Whatever grill is on it, these are COOL!
@Miradart This is the G8's "parent" form, the VE SS Commodore ute. When GM canned Pontiac, Holden decided to do "limited editions" with the Pontiac face, presumably to use a few up.
@Mechknight73 I heard that a couple of months ago. That's cool too. To own a Holden in Aus with a G8 grille would be cool. I just wish they were here. (in either form!!) :)
@Miradart You could probably import one from Saudi Arabia. It would be wearing Chevy badges, but at least it won't give you the headache of converting it to left hand drive. To fit a Pontiac front end, you would literally just buy one and paint it. The G8's bodywork on the utes is identical from the front doors forward
@Miradart Although if you want a real "in your face version of the Holden ute, get the body kit for the VE HSV Maloo. The name comes from an aboriginal dialect. rough translation, it means "thunder." Listening to its four barrel exhaust explains why lol
great add but ve is bloody ulglist thing on the road but u got to love when the classics come in to the hq works so well cant help but love em love the add
well even my stock cefiro can and will out handle even a cv8 as nissans tend to be nice and light (1330kg) for a full bodied family sedan not to mention a well tuned chasis with full irs from an 1988 vehicle.. point being that the only way to know a cars handling is high speed sweeping corners and moderate speed hills cornering, ..nissans tend to not have much roll over unlike most aussie cars and I have never seen a nissan plow understeer through corners unless the sus was fucked.
yeah my 75 260Z handled well for a car its age.. and screamed to 9,000rpm!! lol well if i wanted to compare apples with apples i'd say that VK vs DR30 skyline as the DR still had IRS and a r180 open wheeler diff unless it was a GT not to mention the L24e made more power than the old blue 202 .. but live axles are ment for pre 1980's cars and its hard to bring a car back from a slide with one :P as for my ceffs one is stock as a rock and out performs a cv8 till about 140kmph lol ... stock 160kw
while my other ceff has just a 4" dump back stock turbo running 15psi with a front mount and hks pod while its got GReddy spec s coil overs so it handles like a track car and has a good 171rwkws so its quite the weapon
I prefer power-oversteer to handbrakes when it comes to getting the back end out and getting it back in should be easy as. If you can't do it, don't try it.
Commodore does it nicely.
Easy way to spot an amateur looking for death: how big his fishtails are after losing the back end and trying to catch it.
IRS does make it difficult to lose the back end on bitumen. Sometimes the grip is a little too good...But for poor IRS design I give you my M825. Bad geometry on the coils and struts.
handbrakes are for high speed entry into corners big sweeps like 130kmph+ even stil if your good enough to feint it then you dont need the handbrake.. IRS is surposed to grip better around corners but gives a predictable side.. live axles dont as they will either tramp when the sus isnt stiff enough or the arse end kicks out hard and you just get wheelspin on the spot rather then like with IRS the car will build speed through a slide.
At least they show the best model (VU). Every model since has it's tray so high you can barely see out of the back! Don't think they could show every model due to time constraints lol!
I preffer the VZ series 2 out of all the ss, and i'm a ford supporter, the the new VE just doesn't appeal to me, the suspension is all wrong and the body shape is too fat. But i understand it when people say the new ss, chev engineered engine is good, and it has a reason too.
I'm more in fovour of the FG, for looks and i pretty much just love GT's, and the new f6 is a beast!
Great ad, but it's a pity it starts with the second Holden ute, the FJ. There was an FX ute, too. Around 20000 built. I owned one. And and EK ute...
ColliCub, tornadoes and cyclones are very different meteorological events, and plenty of cyclones have hit Australian shores before and since Tracey. I'm sure it's no reference to Tracey whatsoever.
I fucking love this ad, don't get me wrong, but does the whole tornado bit reference Cyclone Tracey that hit Darwin in 1970's - if so, that's kinda poor taste...
I'm hoping it's a reference to the controversial ad for the VX SS ute (I think it was) that had the car doing donuts in a field and creating the tornado. After this ad was aired for a while, nanny staters decided it wasn't good to show someone having fun in a car on private property, and hence lead to the ban on any sort of "performance" driving in car advertisements.
Love the animations, and the transitions are so cool! I reckon the design of this ute is very cool even though I am not a big fans of utes. BTW, Is Holden the only car in AU that not required to put "Oversease Model Shown" on their ads? :D

Does anyone know where this was filmed, I mean the last part?. At 0:34 you can see the skyline of a city. I can't recognize it. Perth?

shit the holden ute evolved!
I wonder if the owners might?
maybe thats why holden owners always crash their cars... it must be natural selection and may the finest nissan survive.
Heck its not like your bad drivers.. it just the comonhore handles like a pig and gives the same feedback as one..
ceffydriver 2 years ago
@ceffydriver Which Nissan do you drive thinking it handles better?
Prod1Kh 2 years ago

ceffydriver 2 years ago
My '72 240Z handled nicely, too. Wasn't a family car, 'though, and the Cefiro is hardly a "full-bodied family car". More like "mid-sized" at best.
You're comparing apples with oranges.
Why not compare to the VK-era? At least then you'll have size comparing with size.
In a car the size of Commodore I prefer having a live axle married to all that grunt, makes it easier to break the back end loose when you want it.
It's about how you drive what you've got to get the best out of it.
