@clsi6 To be honest I had heard the name but never really listened to Roy Buchanan before, so I took your advice and look it up. I saw a live video "roy buchanan - the messiah will come again." I started to watch and didn't like it at first but I continued to listen -everyone deserves a shot right? And at exactly 2:15, I almost died from laughter, Roy Buchanan is a great musician, If you dont have sound on your computer.... As far as SRV, GREATEST BLUES MUSICIAN TO EVER WALK THE EARTH.
@footballphenom34 i had a listen to that guy after reading your comment... and your totally right , sorry clis6 but SRV is far superior to this roy buchanan guy. :\
just because there's no fantastic guitar playing doesn't mean its not a great version. Both Eric and Stevie put emotion into their versions, and this one happened to be when Eric was at a bad time in his life. If you really care about the blues, this song should hit something inside of you.
HOMESICK TOLD ELMORE THE LYRICS BUT THE NEXT DAY AT THE SESSION ELMORE FORGOT THE LYRIC AND STARTED TO SING IT SKY IS CRYING INSTEAD OF REDO THEY SAID FUCK IT
Everyone either loves this song or hates this song, because it's lacking feeling and intensity.... but this song is a result of his long love for laid-back grooves, in the style of his main influences JJ Cale and Don Williams. If you're expecting a Cream-era blues, you're listening to the wrong artist from the wrong decade. Clapton is a chameleon in many ways, and appreciating this song takes a little perspective on his career.
@captainhaddock77 clapton has played slide for ages man his biggest influence was robert johnson check out stones in my passway. i dont even like clapton not enuf soul like elmore james john lee hooker and many other greats.
@uploader486 - Some people make history; others just talk about it. You, junior, are all talk. Let me take you to school if I may. Take a trip over to Wikipedia and read up, son.
@cottone592 ? you ok boss? clapton is one of my favorite musicians, he's the reason i play guitar. i was merely saying it didnt sound like him because the was covered at a time in his life when he was down.
Who cares about the debate between Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan!?!? They both were very good friends, toured together and they ARE 2 of the greatest guitarists who ever walked the planet and doesn't matter who's better, to me the guitar icons are SO FUCKING AMAZING!!! The rest is history.
@Margovallen: I also read his autobiography recently "Clapton". It is quite a story, and goes into many details of all the battles he has had in life. It is a great read, and I have much respect for him.
@Margovallen, I appreciate your perspective on this post. I do agree with you, he is a most authentic artist, and his music shows the immense depth of his heart and soul.

@cgabler91191 Many have covered this song... and this is the way EC felt it. His vocals and his guitar work are fabulously executed..... and if it all makes you think he was this or that, then he's done his job. Thats exactly what the blues is all about! :-)
@HughCarpenter Well, I would say it is my opinion on that song. I think you have a point, much like @margovallen said. There was a reason that he sang it in such a low key. I was comparing his approach to his versions of songs like "Have you Ever Loved a Woman", "Hard TImes", and other slower blues standards. He used more of a range of notes to sing those songs. I didn't mean to be harsh about the song. It was different that what I was used to hearing from him. Thanks for the post!

@doolbro Sounds like he's had a few too many sleeping pills. I mean, Clapton is still awesome and all that...it's just he sounds pretty stoned on this one for some reason. The funny thing is, Clapton was theoretically one of the people who could have possibly been in SRV's seat on the helicopter that SRV died in, had a few last minute changes not taken place among various band members of Clapton's and SRV's (who all took several helicopters together at the same time when SRV died).

The vocal is bad and the song is not good. I think this was early 1981, he was in and out of rehab this time.
He did much better after sobriety. Look for "Little Wing" in 2007, or "Voodoo Chile" with Steve Winwood on You Tube. Those are really good.
