  • Absolute beauty in every word. Long live Issac Brock.

  • Nothing against Modest Mouse, but whenever I hear them I would rather be listening to Brand New.

  • @youropinionislame cool story bro

  • @youropinionislame brand new sucks

  • @youropinionislame

Weird. They are nothing alike. I like both, but odd comparison.

  • The violin is hauntingly amazing. It makes this song for me.

  • best lyrics in any song ever made, not so popular tho? yea only a certain amount of people can hang with this music... if this was the most popular band in the world, then it would be a drastically better place

  • @DaRealFiberOptix : Some people don't want to hear about death in their music. We all know we're going to die and some people don't want to be reminded about it. Life is already negative enough so I can understand people who wouldn't like a song like this.

It's dope to me but I don't judge those who dislike it.

  • this is the best song ever made, its such an amazing song that it showed me why music is amazing, because they have incredibly deep emotions that they can connect to so well that they build music around it recreate the feeling... which is sometimes a vastly complex emotion that hit you from a dream that you barely remember that was more than just a little strange

  • This song overwhelmes me with emotion. I love how they compose music through harmony opposed to just throwing it together.

  • That top comment. Jesus is that the kind of people who are listening to Humble Hamster? I hate when idiots like what I like infinitely more than I hate idiots liking what I don't like.

  • @RookOfOnyx

    Explain.

  • easily my favorite modest mouse song, and one of my favorites in general.

  • thanks to this song, i passed chemistry!

  • aw fuck it, i guess we lost.

  • See the dislike bar? I don't either.

  • This song is easily one of their best, and one of my favourite songs. So powerful and profound.

  • THe guitar riff orgasmic......

  • I get high w/o drugs on this song....thats how good that is

  • @kdaze27 that's what up

  • i get high to this song

  • Song is amazing when your high.... Just saying w some Manchester too

  • @timmyakastevo u meant carbon right? Cuz no ones taking my garden

  • someday you will die somehow and someone or something will steal your garden.

  • omggg i have "good news for people who love bad news" and "no one's first and you're next" and this album is the one i want the most!

  • i fell like the record is a soundtrack for a very lonely depressed part of my life.

  • favorite modest mouse song

  • @tntproductions444 Picking a favorite Modest Mouse song, for me, is like asking if I'd rather make love to two asians or one asian and a redhead while listening to Modest Mouse. It doesn't really matter, i'm probably going to get off on it.

  • @eyetranceend sounds like you're saying their all just the same, when really each song is a rare gem, just like every lady.

  • BEST. SONG. EVER.

  • "I'm going to try to NOT pass out while singing this one, sometimes I do. I hit those high notes really high"

--Isaac before singing this song in concert...

  • Comment removed

  • This song can't be listened to in a playlist? What the fuck kind of decision is that?

  • Honestly if you complain about breathing in a modest mouse song, you haven't heard their song Dog Paddle

  • Amazing song

  • AAH F*CK IT, I GUESS WE LOST!!

  • Still my favorite MM track

  • I hate you SME. I hate you so much. I will never buy any music you forbid in a playlist.

  • @skellum6 Hey, what does sme stand for?

  • @NelitheGreatisGreat Sony Music Entertainment I assume.

  • AHHH FUCK IT I GUESS I LOST!!!!!!

  • What's so sick about that nasty exhale at the end of the song is that when people breath, they are releasing carbon dioxide, which has carbon as one of its ingredients, which is one of our main ingredients, which is cycled through Earth's life processes after we die. Vultures steal carbon, Dung beetles steal carbon, humans steal carbon in many ways, and the fact of the matter is, whether there's souls or not:

Someday you will die somehow and somethin's gonna steal your carbon.

  • @Npowell01 THIEF!

  • @Npowell01 o.o deep

  • @Npowell01 fuck no i'm getting blasted into space. selfish as a motherfucker.

  • @Npowell01 hell yeah my friend. i however, will gladly give my carbon to whatever organism that might use it more effectively than i.

  • @Npowell01 but was it really our carbon in the first place. and good explanation for the song

  • A life long walk to the saaaaaaaaaame exact spot.

  • i was about to light up and listen to this. Can't find my lighter :(

  • @darkwatchesvideos i always light it up to the good times are killing me or this one

  • Kinda an odd request: Could someone possibly provide a voice-less/instrumental version of this song? It'd be perfect for a video I planned on making.

  • Somoene just needs to make 15 minute loop of 3:46 onwards.

  • fossil fuels are made of very old life forms.... carbon... being stolen.

  • @dbrecs1

nah. Those lyrics refer to the fact that carbon is recycled through generations. Carbon is taken in and used to create new life. When life dies, it's "carbon is stolen" by the life that uses it's biological material to reproduce.

  • @eedobaba7726 ...OK yo... if u think so.

  • WHOOOOOOOOO THE HELLLLLLLL MADE YOU THE BOSSS??

  • Songs like these are exactly why Modest Mouse is my favorite band.

  • The instruments in this like the cello and stand up bass, they just make it feel kinda like a punch in the gut, especially when Issac says who the hell made you the boss.

  • Question : what does " steal your carbon " mean ?

in realation what is the full interpritation of this song

  • @musegravemind As a person/animal you are a carbon-based lifeform. 'Someday/soomehow you will die and someone/something's gonna steal your carbon'. refers to when you die, you'll most likely be buried in the ground (or at sea maybe, whatever). You'll turninto fertilizer that makes the grass grow (kind of like circle of life concept in lion king). The thing that benefits from your death 'steals your carbon'. also, A life long walk to the same exact spot. it's a nihilistic view of life......

  • @musegravemind And it's kind of saying what's the use of walking (living) if we'll end up in the ground anyway? We'll all "dehydrate into minerals" someday. That's what I get from the song, anyway. Hope this helps!

  • @musegravemind "Something's going to steal your carbon" = You die. You're made of carbon. All life is. When you die, what you're made of just fades away into whatever. Like plant-life. You know what eats plant-life? Herbivores. What eats herbivores? Carnivores. And mankind eats it all, so you get the cycle. It's all like UpperCrustthe3rd said, pretty much.

  • more people need to hear this

  • this is my favorite song to drink to

  • Jeez, this song is great.

  • the guitarest from modest mouse smoked me out!

  • Modest mouse deffinetly knows how to get feeling out of saying swears

  • good stuff :)

  • I love the music...is there anything out there of this song without the singing?

  • Someday you will die somehow and somethings gonna steal your carbon....

  • the more you listen to modest mouse the better they get

  • @manwarcow

Agreed. I didn't like No Ones First and You're Next on my first play though. Now I love it like the rest of the stuff.

  • the saaaame exact spot.

  • I Would Grab My shoes,And then Awayyy i walk..

  • brilliant song! only modest mouse song i really really love :)

  • 6 people are alive, and in possession of a carbon.

  • i put this song to a video of me skinning a squirrel, its on my channel. i felt that it went good with the video since the squirrel was indeed, parting from his sensory.

  • @falltoprey1 fuckin weird man hahah

  • Leave my carbon alone, its mine.

  • SOME DAY YOU WILL DIE SOMEHOW AND SOMETHINGS GONNA STEAL YOURE CARBON

  • Inspiring

  • I hope the neighbors like this song.

  • @TheSideWalkJohnny I was gonna like your comment but it was at 69 thumbs up and I'm sick-minded. Just thought you should know that.

  • @TheSideWalkJohnny The thing I don't understand about this comment is why it's so widespread, and it isn't even all that explanatory

Does it mean that you're inviting the neighbors over for dinner?

Or that you're opening the windows, turning this up loud and they won't have a choice but to listen?

  • while the world is ending im going to be in my room burning and listening to this song

  • @cracklepuffs That's an awesome idea. I think I might do that too.

  • the ending is sooooo fucking amazing!!!!

  • one of my ALL TIME FAVS. I see modest mouse whenever they are in my town. MMFL

  • guys from Modest Mouse....please..... allow me to use this song in a music video?

I produce music videos and I LOVE this song!

    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 6 people don't celebrate carbons anniversary.

  • AWHH FUCK IT! I tell myself this all the time

  • i part with my sensory all the time

  • "I would grab my shoes, and away I walk..."

  • I shall loot the bodies of my foes, take their carbon, form an army of flesh golems, take over a militant South American Nation (or C-Land), compress my golems into diamonds, and start over...

Aw, fuck it., I guess I lost

  • my carbon is gonna be stonleen to make diamonds

  • ok....I copied and pasted all the larger comments....found them in the Internet....lol

  • Who the hell made you the boss?....talking about God?

  • The parting of the sensory, I think, refers to the parting of our senses when we die. This would in turn be Carbon's anniversary, since we are carbon based life forms, and our material bodies would "return" to the earth. (Does that make sense?) The old old mystery could refer to the old mystery of the concept of eternal life, the circle of life, etc.

  • The "stubborn beauty" could be life. (Life is often regarded as beautiful but in this case it is "stubborn" because it never completely ends). Dehydrate into minerals doesn't seem to be metaphoric at all. A life long walk into the same exact spot again could mean we are destined, or doomed, to end up in the same spot we began. Non-existence perhaps?

  • Girl left me.

    Dog Died.

    Best Friend Shot and Killed

Aww fuck it i guess i lost.

  • @xXxFaLLeNxShaDoWxXx

    is that on the lyrics???

  • @Brazilady no.

    I like it!

    lol

  • someday, some how you will die and some thing or someones gonna steal your carbon

    * I really hate these type of comments

  • Did he lose the game?

  • Im a metal head. I love everything heavy and fast and all that. But Modest Mouse is the shit.

  • Who the hell made you the boss.We placed our chips in all the right spots But still lost. Any shithead who had ever walked.Could take the ship and do a much finer job. This fit like clothes made out of wasps aww fuck it i guess i lost.

    I love this song

  • Maybe one day, the people of youtube can all agree on one thing, and other people respect others opinions, and enjoy the song

  • singing this song got me laid. seven times. going on ten tonight.

  • Good Song.

  • Looks like 5 people have no taste in music.

  • 3:00 - 3:47 - pure awesomness imo.

  • We pulled the trigger but we forgot to cock... on every single shot. ;_;

  • there are 4 people who should be punched in the mouth

  • amazing song nuff said

  • i can't listen to this in public, for fear i might sing it out loud <3

  • The chorus riff is SO DAMN CATCHY.

  • @brokenseatbelt this chorus riff is TO DAMN CATCHY

  • i cannot express in any words how much i fuckin LOVE this song!!!! also i like how pissed of he sounds when hes like "if you were the ship, who would ever get on?!"

  • the whole album is fucking incredible. the lyrics...the music...just brilliant.

  • My favorite Modest Mouse song. Every aspect of this song is captivating.

  • This whole album is based on Moby Dick. This song is really interesting, almost somewhat haunting.

  • @ThisIsKindaFunny this is my favourite album by them. they pull off the "ocean" theme real well, ya know?

  • this is definitly one of the most intelligent modest mouse songs

  • who the hell made you the boss laziigirl?

  • This album generally sucked compared with the previous ones, but this is one of their best songs... go figure.

  • @thetruespin we were dead is still a good album. This is one of my top modest songs.

  • i heard this high and for some reason thought it was like amazing. i heard it sober and was like HAHA what the fuck? some how it was so much better than i remember. its not amazing its perfect. sends chills to every inch of me

  • I'm going to steal his fucking carbon. <3

  • Okay, this song has a very deep and depressing meaning. First of parting of the sensory is referring to our senses being taken from us when we die. When he says "Who the hell made you the boss? We placed our chips in all the right spots but still we lost..." That is most likely referring to God in anger. Isaac is probably upset that God made us all and we are only all destined to doom. The ship refers to life and when you die the minerals will become part of other organisms. Very depressing song

  • "Some day you will die and

Somehow something's going to steal your carbon" - linguistically perfect way to accurately represent the human condition

  • aww, fuck it i guess i lost

  • hey guys did you know it's Carbon's anniversary

  • Comment removed

  • Sooo I guess they believe in heaven and hell like everyone else. LOL JK.

  • Comment removed

  • the best

  • this song is amazing

  • to me this song sounds like how fucked up the world is getting with war and economy and shit and in the song the world is ending and some people are going to hell and some to heaven. "the weather changed for the worse and came down on us like it had been rehearsed.. be awful for most but really good for some"

  • Man, I love Modest Mouse. From, "This Is A Long Drive...", to now; all of their stuff is great.

  • When I die, something's going to steal my carbon? But I like my carbon! :(

    Great song :D

  • @pooh555190 yes something will steal your carbon carbon makes up almost 20 percent of the human body so when you die something will infact steal your carbon probly some bugs or even ratsssssssss

  • The more i listen to this song i get a vibe, ever read "The Biggest Secret" by David Icke? Isaac Brock (i might be way off) seems to display discrete hints toward David Ickes theory.. Also, "Bankrupt on Selling" is full of this theory.

  • haha of course it didnt sound any different bud isnt a hallucinogenic. its just a high not a trip. now listening to this on shrooms haha makes this song insane!

  • I've never managed anything more than a runner's high, and I still love this song enough to listen to it twice in a row. Personally I think they ending is drug-esque enough.

  • @BlankAvenueBass I usually listen to a single song until I get sick of it. It's funny that I've listened to this piece for at least five times in a row and I'm not sick of it yet. :D And the ending really good.

  • I was high at their concert when they were here, I was high, It didn't do shit to the music!

  • 3:50

  • A life long walk to the exact same spot

  • Atlas :(

  • Heyy sweet song. =D

  • Lets not talk about weed and talk about Modest Mouse. This isnt a video for Pot debate, it's a Modest Mouse video and a damn good song.

  • aw fuck it, i guess we lost

  • i went from a 3.8 at a private highschool, stopped smoking weed, dropped to a 3.5, started smoking again and ended the year with a 4.0. im lacrosse, rifle, and football captain too.

  • this song has an awesome build up to the end, well composed, just another example of the brilliance of modest mouse

  • modest mouse + herbals = high as the national debt.

  • they say the only truths in life are death and taxes...i think issac sums it up best, the only absolute is that someday you will die somehow and something's gonna steal your carbon

  • The last part of the song makes my heart race...it's just a fantastic way to end this song.

  • Someday you will die and somehow someones gunna steal, your, bud!

  • People who have never tried weed have no right to criticize, and don't compare it to other, harder drugs because it's completely different.

    /argument

  • i had a really bad trip to this song when I was going through some depression.. not too fun!
