Low birth rates. Europeans are not reproducing. There are simply not enough people working to pay for the generation currently retiring. @Texfield91 Very, very true! In fact, I just listened to a BBC podcast which carefully explained how many European countries are on the brink of financial collapse. The problem is that it's all too easy to name some far off place which few in the discussion know the details of and rave about it in glowing terms, not mentioning any of the problems there.

1. The EU's economy is not larger than America's.

2. Even if the EU's economy is larger than America's, and it isn't, individually almost every European nation is economically troubled today and probably will be in the future.

3. European nations' lavish social programs combined with their growing aging populations and low birth rates are economically unsustainable.

The reason Socialism & Communism are abject failures is because they destroy the incentive of the individual to strive for more. Eventually more & more people do less & less.
